Well, your appraisal of the 2 countries is reasonably fair & accurate. Having spent 13 years permanently in Thailand but having travelled far more extensively in The Philippines in recent times. Your personal situation with being married to a Filipino is without doubt going to bias your decision on the topic. For me it really comes down to individual choice, anybody considering living in either country needs to spend time in both to make a final decision. Personally I'm very happy in either country and divide my time between the two. It's exhausting and complex seeing people making one for one comparisons. But be assured both countries are very welcoming with lots of happy, smiling faces. The only word of caution, PLEASE make sure your finances are sufficient for the duration. Because in either The Philippines or Thailand running out of money supply can be very problematic...

Yeah its good for visiting and having a good time. But living nah I'm sure there are places in thailand that is quiet and peaceful. I've been to their northern islands and i can say I'm surprise how free and quiet the place are. There are still people around but their live styles are so different from their central and southern countrymen. They have stores that have no clerk , groceries that's open you just take what you need and leave your money on a basket. And if you have no money there's a ledger you could write on and list the things you want to take and when you are gonna pay up. I have never seen such trust to your fellow human beings. And the spirit of that trust makes other people do the same it's was honestly infective. I didnt knew that us human beings could possibly capable of such trust. And road side meals are always good and clean. I remember my cousin took me to a restaurant right next to a highway and hidden behind tall trees and bushes. Its like a secret restaurant. No signs just 5 tables and a small menu. Best they served us this crunchy pork and i thought it was sprayed over with mayonnaise with bits of mest on it turns out it was ox brain and used as condiments. Taste great.

@DrLawaytravels2 жыл бұрын
If I was younger with no family I would not get a home base I would be purely nomadic. It is much less expensive in Thailand to get short term more affordable accommodation than most of the Philippines. That changes if you are willing to commit to a longer period of time. There is also a very large group of foreigners in Thailand in that age range who are from lots of different countries that have created a start up and free lancer community. That would be good to tap into. As an established business I really do not need that anymore. The KZbin thing would take way to long to explain, if enough people are interested I will do a video on it. Thanks

@@marick_2183 You’re right about this. Filipinos are very insecure people and would always want validation from foreigners. I love Thailand, I've been to Chiangmai however in Thailand there's this language barrier. The advantage of living in the Philippines is that at least people here can speak english so one can easily communicate with Filipinos.

I will not leave the Philippines again until I have been to Leyte. It was my number one side trip planned when we came. My grandfather was in the 11th Airborne and participated in the landing so I want to see the island.

I'm currently living in Thailand and just really don't like it. Been thinking about heading back to the Philippines for a while. My experience with immigration is one of the main reasons. I'd love to hear about these visa changes for Thailand you mentioned.

I have been living in Chiang Mai for the last 14 years and have been happy here. (I am Australian). 9 years ago I bought an apartment here for about AUD$50,00 and it has worked out well. However in the last couple of years with Covid restrictions many things changed. Although Thailand and Chiang Mai in particular have opened up a lot, somehow I feel the need for a major change in my life. Have not been to the Philippines for 35 years (I am 73, but in excellent health). Last time there I was mugged and robbed at gunpoint in Manila, so that soured me on ever going back. However all things change. Have been doing some research online, and Davao City or Cagayan de Oro seem like suitable places. If I had married in Thailand no doubt I would feel differently. As it is, I have been a bachelor all my life. I have no financial problems whatsover, and have not found Thai Immigration difficult or expensive. Have a substantial income from Australia in the form of rent from my Australian house, corporate bonds, and other extremely secure investments. Have no interest in moving back to Australia. All of my family there have died because I am the youngest by far. In addition, many of the old friendships there have become tenuous over the years. Obviously I have to think the matter through thoroughly, because if I make the move, I will not want to do it again. Will probably visit the Philippines on my way back from Australia in November. Will try to ensure I simply change planes in Manila. Do not want to spend even one night there.

Hey man. I'm married to a Filipina from Iligan city, relatively close to Cagayan de Oro. CdO is a good place to settle down. It's by the ocean, it's close to the airport (Laguindingan) etc. Also, as a small/midsize town it has all the amenities one would need. Also, the region is beautiful. Cebu is a short flight away, surf area surigau/siargao is close too with nice ambiance. Me and my wife are planning to buy a lot just west of CdO. Good luck mate!

Also, Davao is a bigger city and very safe and organized by PH standards, so both Davao and CdO are good.

If u plan on living here in the Philippines... Try learning the local language of the place ur staying at.. Its very convenient to converse with the locals there... But ultimately tagalog..... U cant go wrong with tagalog/filipino also nice beard and mustache.. I love it

@@DrLawaytravels You mean "Redneck Bisaya" as you mentioned? I speak half baked Bisaya so don't feel bad. LOL
@achuuuooooosuu2 жыл бұрын
For the whole of the Philippines, you have to ultimately learn Tagalog/Filipino as your main Philippine language, you won’t go wrong wherever you go. With the exception of Cebu since they’d prefer speaking their language instead, or English.

@frankcentofanti9317 the biggest problem is communication. Most of places in Philippines, you can get away with just speaking English, not so in Thailand.
