The plastic is probably like that for fans of model planes. It doesn’t matter that it’s translucent when it’s gonna be primed and painted. The deco is likely minimal and cheap for this reason. This would also explain the looseness on the weapons, they’re tight enough to stay but loose enough to fit with a coat of paint.

Spoilers for Top Gun Maverick (It's a good movie, so beware) I wonder if this was meant to be either Maverick's plane after years in storage or the busted up F-14 Maverick and Rooster hijack before the final showdown. F-14s aren't exactly commonly used planes anymore.

So, I was going through some eBay listings this morning, and I made a startling discovery. Maverick IS a released mold, a mold with the same jet-mode parts arrangement and gappy bot mode. He's Cybertron Thundercracker!

The jet is an F-14a tomcat not an F/A-18 hornet this is more first movie top gun from the 80’s and not the new maverick movie and I see the “Camo” as dirt and stuff that covered the wings also the wings are meant to move as an American with knowledge about this plane the wings are able to move due to being made mainly to land on aircraft carriers and the wings fold back into that delta shape for faster speeds and maneuverability during a dogfight also fun fact the F-14 was developed in the 1970’s and is still being used today

I don't think Maverick is all new. I don't know why or what, but locked deep with in the recesses of my mind, I know as a kid I had what ever figure this is based on. There are things in it's design and transformation that could not be clearer in my memories. I have been driving my self INSANE trying to find what it's based on, because I KNOW I have seen much of this figure before, in the exact same form. As in this is probably a figures something on the order of 20+ years old.

The transformation might take cues from it, such as the G2 cyberjets, but it was built from the ground up. Reused transformation schemes don't equate to reused cad models. Sometimes it's a case of 'copying homework'

It's Cybertron Thundercracker. Didn't recognize it at first because Thundercracker's entire left arm was different than the right to work the cyberplanet key gimmick. In fact, I seem to recall seeing at least one Thew or Phelous video in which they review a KO that didn't have the gimmick and was virtually identical.

Honestly, between all of the crossover figures Gigawatt really did get the tender love and care that came with his price tag. Aside from the phenomenal detail and exquisite paint to back it up he also has same critically necessary standard of articulation that almost all of the WFC Trilogy figures are engineered with given that he is literally Siege Sideswipe in disguise (Seriously, this standard of employing waist swivels and ankle rockers is what has driven me completely away from Studio Series aside from the 86 Movie and BB movie figures). *HASBRO EVEN LISTENED TO THE FANS BY CORRECTING THE COLOR OF HIS WINDSHIELD FOR THE FINAL RELEASE!!* Where was this attention to detail when Maverick was still in the oven?!

There's something you didn't check beforehand. The original movie all the way back in 86. Yes, the sequel is 36 years late. This jet is based on the original F-14 that Maverick flew in that first film as opposed to the F/A-18 that's actually in the trailer.

I picked one up for a super cheap price. I was excited to get it. I didn’t expect a great figure. Just the fact that something like this exist was enough for me. I doubt I’ll even take it out of the package. It’s just cool to have a Top Gun toy that is an official TF. So yeah, in this case the nostalgia really is enough.For me anyway.

I personally like Maverick MAYBE because i love jetformers and love the crossover toys especially Gigawatt and i don't mind the proto-resin like plastic for some reason and you can get some expressive poses with the hinged and rotating hands to make him have some attitude with a Shrug *Also the fact that he comes with a giant volleyball is funny to me*

Got this Figure back and December, the nose cone popped off and is now lost and it took for a while to get the joints working right. For the back apparently, you got to port some tabs on the black clip into some barely visible port and that makes it all work right. This isn't in the instructions

This figure wasn’t meant to tie in with the Top Gun Maverick film, but the original Top Gun. Maverick’s and Goose’s name is on the nose like the first film. Plus the F-14 aren’t the jets used in the upcoming sequel film. Other than that, I have a love for this figure.

Honestly this would have benefited from being thrilling 30 jetfire, with a new nose cone these could be almost identical in jet mode, there is already spots for missiles and an opening cockpit that they could make a tiny tom cruise for. For robot mode the faux canopy on the chest has been removed before, has has the head, with perhaps some new forearms to accommodate new hands this could be very good.

For those who wish to know, this thing turns into a F-14 Tomcat and while I do appercaite how accurate it is, neither the robot mode nor the paintjob do the Jet any justice Seriously, this could have looked absolutely fantastic with a much more eye catching paint, maybe like a satin or metallic grey or silver. But nope Frankly all the praise I can give Maverick goes to his excellent jet mode albeit the lack of paint is really annoying and no, a Jet of this nature would not need a camo of any kind

I may try to get X-spanse since it seems to be an EXTENSIVE retool of Studio Series ROTF Jetfire & also because since it's based on the X-Men Animated Series & it's Blackbird.

I know maverick got a reissue but I wish the reissue fixed the problems with the figure. The deco should've changed to silver, some of the QC issues could've been fixed and maybe (I think this is just me) better and more accessories.

Thank you providing such an apt name for this off-putting off-white color of plastic. Should I ever encounter such a thing again, “semen resin” will be the first descriptor that comes to mind. I skipped Apeface when I saw he was molded with this color of plastic, and it seems I’ll be skipping this one too. A stone gray of sorts really would’ve worked better, and those forearm gaps make it look really cheap imo.

I wish this figure had actually good quality. I would expect better from a Transformer jet whose missiles turn into Spas-12s.

Honestly despite how underpainted he is, I still like Maverick. Out of all the crossovers he's definitely the weakest, but for me his robot mode silhouette is my main draw to him. Also while I see the Cyberjet influence I also kinda see a little RID 2001 Decepticon Skyfire in him as well. Anyway, maybe I'm weird but I can't help but like this guy(nostalgia not attached).

Great video! I really do think this design was rushed, while trying to avoid any Harmony Gold flak. Bland prototype-model plastic - even most plastic jet modeling kits have better color. Bends over backwards to avoid anything Macross-Valkyrie-like. Completely inappropriate workmanship for its figure series. I once thought, why they didn’t use Thrilling 30 Jetfire? However, that would loose more articulation, with an even more expensive limited-release leader class figure. So, still bad….
