Magnesium is a critical mineral that is responsible for more than 600 enzyme reactions in the body, yet most people are not getting enough of it. Magnesium is critical for your cells to make energy, for many different chemical pumps to work, to stabilize membranes, and to help muscles relax. Essentially, anything that is tight, irritable, crampy, or stiff-whether it is a body part or even a mood-can be a sign of low levels of magnesium, and magnesium deficiency has even been linked to inflammation in the body and higher CRP levels.
In today’s episode of a new series I’m calling Know Your Numbers, I dive deep into magnesium. I discuss why millions of people suffer with undetected magnesium deficiency, how conventional medicine misses the mark in measuring magnesium levels, how Functional Medicine treats magnesium deficiency, and much more.
You can test your magnesium levels with Function Health, a company I co-founded. It has been a lifelong dream for me. Function is the first-ever membership that includes 100+ lab tests and personalized insights from globally renowned doctors based on your results. Join Function at FunctionHealth.com.

Magnesium glycinate helps me sleep through the night, my heart palpation are gone and my lifetime battle with anxiety is a good 85 percent if not more.....better. Magnesium glycinate is changing my life mentally and physically unlike any medication I've ever take in my 58 years of life so far. And there have been so many medications for me throughout the years.

I started magnesium glycinate 2 weeks ago because I have had insomnia for 4 yrs. I just developed low high blood pressure after my whole life having low blood pressure. I am taking 300 mg 1 hr before bed. I also live in chronic pain with a cut spinal cord & several herniated discs from a major car accident 25 yrs ago. Thanks for everything you do to bring us to optimum health!🙏🙏🙏

Yes mark is amazing and his pod casts are amazing I've learned alot watching them. Get some fermented cacoa I watched a video where it releases natural stem cells that stitch the body back together with minimal scarring. I had 2 deep cuts in my finger and thumb it was healing slowly and once I added the cacoa within a week you couldn't see even a scar. While I realize it's been 25 yrs since your injuries but give it a try

For your chronic pain, please Google Dr. Joe Dispenza. He damaged his spinal cord in a car accident when he was struck head on by a commercial truck, and later told that he would never walk again. Dr. Joe was able to make a full recovery with a very strategic health and healing regimen. I think you will fond his story and his return to superior health inspiring. Wishing you enhanced health!

Great info here - several years ago I started focusing on Magnesium increases (Sprouted Pumpkin Seeds, Sprouted Hemp Seeds, Bananas, Figs, etc.) and the results were tremendous. The more active you are, the more of this key electrolyte you burn through, and I didn't realize I needed more than the RDA of 400-500mg per day. Now I try to get at least 800mg per day and I've never looked back. No more being tired after a hard day at the gym or on the volleyball court (unless I've simply not gotten enough sleep the night before). Now days I can burn 4,000 to 5,000 calories in one day, not even replace all those calories that same day, and still have energy to do whatever I need to the next day while still in a caloric deficit. Deficits used to drain me a lot more before I worked on my electrolyte balance (of which, Magnesium was the last one I tweaked and improved).

I've had quite a good response to taking a Magnesium (with vitB&C) supplement this last few weeks, I remember years back when I was eating processed /fake foods, having an 18:32 ok result with Mg for pins & needles in my hands and other things. but this time Im sort of shocked at what a week or two has done for my overall wellbeing/symptoms. I did think I would have been getting enough of it from my diet, but I wonder if I was very much lacking in Mg that all the processes its involved with were ready to go... just not having enough to kick start the regeneration processes into high gear getting it over the crest of the wave so to speak and allowing my body /cells to really get working as best they can. a perfectly timed video must say, I am grateful, cheers

This struggle and sincere efforts that you take to make people believe in the reality of low magnesium among the world population is really commendable. It will make a great change in the thoughts of many people but to those who believe in nothing but MEDICINES which is being promoted by the DRUG INDUSTRY AND PHYSICIANS, it will create little change. Very unfortunate that still, people are ignorant about minerals and supplements along with a HEALTHY AND DISCIPLINED LIFE STYLE. Thank you Sir.

Sometimes as we age our bodies don't store vitamins. Also what foods we eat together like eating a orange with eggs to absorb the protein from the eggs. People don't realize that certain foods eaten together will better absorb the vitamins from your food. You eat a healthy meal then eat a big sugar desert just sent your vitamins into another level. I'm older and my body doesn't absorb the vitamins from food so I take all natural vitamins. Not the cheap synthetic ones most people take. Look for organic supplements.

Okay, I must ask... because I have found now that I am older, in my 50s, that the only thing that helps prevent muscle cramping for me is magnesium. Why on earth do I now need to ingest 200-500mg of magnesium per day to prevent those twitching muscle fibers and cramps? In the larger scheme of genetics and nutrition would our ancient ancestors have had a diet of items in nature that provided a continuos supply of magnesium in such dosages? Why on earth would a person need to take this supplement in such quantity?

Just cut out soda/alchohol/sugar. The magnesium they sell in the stores only works for a very short time until the body adapts to it. Changing the diet is the best way.

You can be allergic to other ingredients in a pill (you need to study the ingredients list), also you can be allergic to a certain type of magnesium. And of course some medical conditions can be a factor of a bad reaction.

Nice video, and thank you for highlighting the most important mineral in the mineral matrix, that marvelous, magnanimous, magical, majestic mineral Magnesium. Which is the magnetic energy of the Sun; hence why, we have photosynthesis because of Mg. Now, the best test to assess the status of Mg is a hair mineral analysis referred to as HTMA. As you alluded to, 99% of the Mg is in the tissues, glands, and organs, and only 1% is in the blood, which is tightly regulated, so blood levels will always show up mostly normal or your dead, and when it does show low in serum, we know the witching hr is 2 minutes from midnight, making blood testing useless. Even the heralded Mg-RBC is just as useless bc most of the Mg is in the mitochondria, and RBCs do not have mitochondria, hence why that test is just as meaningless. Remember, biochemistry mostly happens in the tissues, not the blood. Furthermore, the enemies of Mg are plentiful, as you beautifully expressed. Still, you forgot to mention the #1 enemy of Mg is Copper, Lead, and Cadmium, and Copper happens to be the most dysregulated mineral in the mineral matrix. Serial HTMA will give us the greatest insight into Mg and the mineral matrix and insight into mineral ratios like the Ca/Mg ratio, the Na/K ratio, the Na/Mg ratio, etc. Furthermore, the HTMA gives us patterns as these mineral patterns give us a window into psychology as well as physiology, as these minerals are cosmic in origin. A calcium shell, a sympathetic dominant pattern, or a four-low pattern are some examples of patterns that will show up on a hair test. Furthermore, the HTMA will tell us the status of the toxic metals or perhaps if we are a poor eliminator of the toxic metals, which most adults are.
