DRS Open Day 2024 at Carlisle Kingmoor

Hello and welcome to another video!
In this video I am with ‪@robinsbusvideos‬ as we visit Carlisle and Kingmoor depot for the Direct Rail Services open day.
This was the first DRS open day where class 20s and class 37s were not present due to DRS modernising their fleet. However famous name plates off class 37s such as Blackpool Tower and Concrete Bob were being auctioned off.
The new order were on show in the form of class 68s and class 88s, with some class 66s and a class 57 also on show. Some naming ceremonies for class 66s were due to take place in the afternoon however we did not wait around for this. I'm sure the name unavailing will have been well documented.
Some cabs were open for visits and some engine covers had been removed to allow for a closer look. With great weather, plenty stalls and food outlets it was a really good day.
The next DRS open day will be held at Crewe Gresty Bridge in 2 years.

Lovely video and at least you had great weather with the sunshine... What a shame there were no tractors or choppers.... Times have certainly changed through the year's when depot open day's had loads of locos on show as well as guest locomotives... But it looked like a good time was had by you yesterday.

@@nigelbevan8449 was genuinely expecting typical open day weather in the form of rain but on this occasion it was really sunny. I think the last open day with such a varied attendance like you mentioned was Crewe all change in 2019. I think that will take some matching

@@TheJamster2006 Oh Lord, I remember Crewe open day back in 2019, the organisers definitely pulled out all the stops to make it a memorable day..... And how about the open days back in the 70s and 80s, no advanced tickets, just turn up on the specific day the depot was open... Place's like Old Oak Common, Derby, Crewe, Bescot, Bath Road (Bristol) to name but a few.

It was a good day,BUT,next time the transport to and from Carlisle needs sorting.Long queues for an hour 1300 onwards.not one bus to City,then four showed up..One of which was empty and refused to pick up.🤷‍♀️..the weather was great tho,thanks for filming.

@@jerrydowse5061 the issue with the public transport to and from Kingmoor was the sheer amount of people using it. It should have been an every 20 minute frequency but buses were getting held up by masses amounts of people boarding at stops in the city and at the redfern inn. Also in previous years Stagecoach have used double deckers on the 62 service when the open day is on but this could not happen due to the 62 being on diversion somewhere along the route which means it goes under a low bridge which isnt suitable for double deckers so they had to make do with single deckers which quickly became over crowded and delayed. Of course bare in mind about 70 people on each bus, everyone paying £2 singles. That soon eats into the 20 minute gap between buses and as you described, the next bus caught up. I was on a bus coming back to the city and the driver said she was over an hour late, she phoned her depot and they said just carry on. It would have been better if Stagecoach had planned it better and took steps to turn back buses early if they became seriously delayed
