Well, I'll be turning 50 soon, and I'm going to dermaplane for the first time this afternoon! I'm nervous, but I've watched your videos, and have all of my supplies ready. I'm looking forward to the finished result!

I'm interested in the ambient powder but will definitely try it first as they can settle into my wrinkles. I will try the facial tanner (gave them up long ago as I felt they showed my pigment). I'm sure they've improved and I find with all my peels, lasers and skincare, my face looks much more pale as I age. And YES, I use heliocare daily in summer, as I live in arid West and walk daily. I also use 25% AHA lotions on my body and don't typically sunscreen my legs for my walks( big hats and UPF long sleeves, of course). My legs have not burned. Love your content, love your matter of fact way of presenting it. Super organized and easy to follow. PS, for my red light I stand on my vibration plate (bone health), dry brush and towards the end apply my glycolic body lotion (all while listening to you, of course! ;-)

The legs up the wall. I've been practicing yoga for 25 years, and I'm a licensed mental health professional as well. Taking care of our central nervous system benefits every cell in our body, including our skin. This pose really helps our relaxation response turn on. If your hamstrings make this this pose difficult, you can start by resting your calves/shins on a chair, or moving a little further away from the wall so the legs are at more of an angle.

Ok, I have one for you: Twice a week, after I shower I apply a pea sized amount of Kerasal to the sole of each foot (most heal and ball of the foot), then seal it in with a bit of Cerave cream rubbed in. I put on socks for a while (you don’t want slippery feet) and this has kept my post-menopausal feet from being dry and cracked.

I agree that collagen powder is beneficial for the skin. I also take a collagen supplement daily. Additionally, I lift weights and actively work on building muscle. I eat a high protein diet to support this (around 150-160 g/day). However, I don’t include my collagen supplement in that number because it is not a complete protein. This is my personal choice to lift heavy weights and focus on progressive overload in my workouts and of course everyones goals are different. Just food for thought though for anyone else who follows a traditional strength training program.

@@ninimimi2906 I don’t make videos, but I would be happy to share with you what I do. I tend to eat the same things for breakfast and lunch and then my snack and dinner varies. For breakfast, I eat a plain oatmeal packet and mix in a scoop of whey protein powder into it. I also eat a Greek yogurt (oikos pro when I am bulking, two good, chobani zero, etc. if I am cutting, whatever fits in my day if I’m in maintenance). I’ll also have some berries or a couple of dates. For lunch I do a big salad topped with a protein (tuna, salmon, whatever you want), some berries on the side and a protein bar. Sometimes instead of the salad I’ll do egg whites and some wheat toast. This is if I am cutting. If I am bulking, instead of a salad or egg whites I do rice and beans and a couple of regular eggs and then fruit and a bar. My husband loves to cook so he just tries to cook a high protein dinner and I eat whatever portion size fits into my macros. For snack I like to take frozen blueberries and warm them up in a pan and pour them on top of some cottage cheese. Sometimes I have Greek yogurt as a snack as well. I also will have some fruits or veggies with my snack. For dessert after dinner, I really like the simple mills brand muffin mixes so I always have those on hand as a sweet treat. I stay fairly consistent with this, but I definitely work in fun foods and don’t worry about having treats on a special occasion or vacation as long as I hit my protein goal for the day. It really is all about consistency and balance. I do find if you get a ton of protein in at breakfast and lunch though, it’s way easier to hit your protein goal for the day. Hope this helps!

I also keep a mini crystal nail file and mini hand cream, as well as a tiny pack of anti-bac wipes in my little case. Always a lip balm, on a stick as I don't want to be sticking my fingers into a pot while I'm out. A pack of mini tissues and whatever lipstick I'm wearing that day. Oil blotting sheets and a spare hair tie and tiny clip. And of course, a mini, flat compact mirror, one that has normal view and the opposite side is magnified. And a pair of mini tweezers and a band-aid. Mini anti-bac hand gel and I store it all very easily in a 5x5 inch zip up bag with little compartments. Because everything is in mini, it all fits comfortably without being heavy. And on those special days of the month a have an even smaller pouch which includes a mini pack of intimate wipes, liners, tampax and pain meds. That pouch measures 3x 2 inches. It's a lot of stuff, I know, but everything is tiny or decanted into little travel pots and I'm affectionately known as the one who has everything but the kitchen sink! 😊

Dr Sam, if you ever made a video about caring for grey hair, it would be invaluable. I've been going grey since I was 28 and at this point, the front of my hairline is mostly brittle, grey, dry, fragile hairs. I feel like aging has changed the texture of my hair entirely - it isn't as soft or manageable since I was younger. And worse, the gentle shampoos make my scalp and hair a greasy disaster while cleansing shampoos (like my favorite volumizing ones) can make it feel coarse, frizzy, etc. I feel like I'm going insane wondering if I should trade out my shampoo, conditioner, leave-ins, or even my hair dryer. There aren't many resources online for women with greying hair and most of the people making hair content are younger women who aren't dealing with this issue yet. I know you've discussed haircare before, but caring for grey hair has been my special hell where none of my previous routines seem to work.
@janes2180
@janes2180 2 ай бұрын
Something that might help: think of shampoo being what manages your scalp and conditioner takes care of your hair. No need to stay within the same product range, just use what you feel comfortable with. Only don't switch shampoos constantly, cause it will irritate your skin. There's also lots of products out there that will make brittle hair smoother and more manageable. You can try leave-in conditioners or hair masks (use im between shampoo and conditioner). Im sure there a plenty of accounts dedicated not only to hair care but specifically graying hair. Hope that helps 😊

I hit the collagen peptides every day. When I get to work in the morning I get a cup of coffee. I start with putting a scoop of cholate Vital Proteins in my decaf chocolate coffee and top my coffee off with a splash of sugar free chocolate creamer. It's my treat for getting up and making it to work and I am a friendlier person . I also get dermaplaning every other month professionally. Dr. Ellis, could you do a video on red light therapy masks (I own and use the Onmilux Cpntour) and their affect on individuals who suffer from melasma? There seems to be a lot of differing opinions out there by other KZbinrs (some are dermatologists and other are simply users of the mask) over the interplay between red light and near infra red light on melasma. I’d love to know your professional opinion!

One of the best beauty hack videos I’ve ever seen. Don’t think I’d heard of any of them except the first one, and even then seeing you actually do it (and knowing the product you used) was incredibly helpful and built my confidence in giving it a try. I’m a fair one (like yourself) so I always thought this sort of thing would just be too clown face orangey on me but you’ve given me hope it could work. Loved the collagen powder tip (as someone who struggles to digest protein I’m never getting enough) plus having the studies linked gave me pause (as I was always led to believe this was pseudo science) and all of the travel related tips were just the best. Loved the micellar water one particularly. I go away all the time and streamlining my packing is an ongoing game/struggle I have with myself. Altogether great video. Hi Dr. Sam. Even though you’re not my official dermatologist, I kind of want to call you my doctor. By the way, I did purchase prequel from target …the big silver cleanser, and the sunscreen. I too also take the Helio product. I also use it only when I’m going to be out in the sun long long time. I find it I don’t burn either. I can spend the day at the beach and if I’ve taken that in the morning, I will get a good sufficient amount of my vitamin D naturally and get a little bit of color, but no burn. I’m also carnivore so I understand with that diet, it’s somewhat protects you a lot from burning. I also take collagen in the morning however I buy it online through Costco. It’s for women only. I have been doing it for years now. It’s in a white and pink container. Of course it works on your skin and nails. Not sure if it’s any good but I’m consistent. I do shave my face. In fact, I just purchased an IPL system that has been advertised recently Ulike, but I didn’t have success so I’m returning it.

Add your spray to your emergency kit, if you get a bug bite or get super sweaty on a hike, I use your spray before I reapply my sunscreen. Seems to make that 2nd( or 3rd) application stick better!

❤ Love Heliocare!! I've taken it since mid-2000's when I'm going to be outside for long periods of time. Love Omnilux red light face mask + listening to the Evolutioner app at the same time. Yes on after shower exfoliating toner!!!❤

Thank you, @DrSamEllis. This is a great video, very helpful! May I offer you an idea for another video. Morning skincare if you workout outside. Example, I for a a very long walk and then workout am in SoCali, so, of course, I need to apply sunscreen, but I take full shower after my workout. So, theoretically, I could do my skincare routine twice - around 5:30 am and then again around 8:00-8:30 am after workout/errands. I don't mind applying my serums twice (CoQ10, vitamin C, and tranexamic, etc for pigmentation or some peptide serum instead). Is there any issue with that? Is there any downside in doing it this way? Thanks a lot!

Approximately 14:00 Wow!! I'm re-packing down my SPF for the day everyday - mostly because I have a few that I'm using and choosing between depending on how I feel THAT particular day. Right now it's Tocobo's two SPF sticks; the blue matt finish one and the newest, green, cica - I love both of them! And the Beauty Of Joseons Rice + Probiotics and the Mugwort matt finish SPF stick. I also have the Isn'tree and the Abib SPF stick. I'm going to buy the new Beauty Of Joseon too. It was a very good point you made there too, Dr Sam! That one should never leave SPF in the car!! Take care everyone 🫶❤✌️

I have a protein malabsorption issue (on medication to help) so my protein intake is a daily concern. Have been told by doctors and dieticians that collagen isn’t a complete protein and can’t be included in the tally of my daily protein intake. I do add a collagen powder to my porridge every morning but solely for the benefits to my skin & hoping it will help with my weak nails. Apricot scrubs were popular in the 80s too. Ripped my poor acne ravaged skin apart though I was told it ‘would help’ with my acne. Makes me shudder to think about it.

Cotton pads with micellular water great idea!!! I peel even with the lowest dose of tretinoin so I have to exfoliate with bha/aha in the mornings… never heard of the oral supplement for extra protection from sun; will have to try that.

The thing with products like bronzer and self-tanners are, I am just far to fair skinned to wear them, they very quickly turn me orange, so I don't even know if I will ever find something that doesn't do that.

Such a great video. I love the exfoliation hacks. I have a question - what is the best skin care for surgical scarring? I've had two knee replacements, and I'm a year post-surgery. My scars look great, but I was wondering if there was a cream or oil that would be great to use on them.

Isn't collagen an incomplete protein? Meaning it probably doesn't support muscle repair as much as a complete protein? Would like to hear your thoughts on that! Also, I always thought self tanners also aged the skin, or is once a week usage fine?
@DrSamEllis
@DrSamEllis 2 ай бұрын
@@mahamzahid7846 hi! No evidence that self tanner actually ages the skin. It’s just an unsupported theory. With regards to collagen supplementation, despite being an incomplete protein, it’s of course not my only source of protein - so ultimately all of my amino acid requirements are met when you combine what’s consumed in the form of food + oral collagen supplementation. Hope that makes sense!
