summer near, at 88 have crepey arms, thin skin, so am starting castor oil which is cheap enough for my very low income... rent takes most of my SS. I never used creams as I am lazy about skin care, and got compliments on my skin all my adult life without any care. Have been slathering it on liberaly. Using it 2 times a day for a month and feel it the best all around helpfor a soft healthy skin along with some supplements. 😅 Went into menapause 44 years ago. Limiting stress and getting rid of toxic people is also helpful. cost a few cents a Day ..$! a day for the YMCA which I feel is the best thing for my health, plus fast walking and getting fresh air. Get at least one compliment a day which lifts the ego. Bright lipstick, a smile , and gratitude . I read that Doris Day used castor oil, and it is a ingredient in many expensive skin creams.

If you're looking for an effective way to improve your skin, try Castor oil. It's a well-known secret that won't cost you a fortune! Add a few drops of frankincense and carrier oil of your choice, and you'll see a remarkable difference quickly🤩. Your skin will thank you for it! Make sure you get your oils in a dark bottle, NOT plastic. 😛

@@sandramurkerson9041 Wowzers, after what you have been through, I wish we weren't that superficial about our skin but rather celebrated you for the hero you are. In case that doesn't help your frustration: a totally decadent superficial solution that has helped me, is to apply thick/rich cream on my hands and arms, wrap them in plastic wrap (that's the decadent part) and go to sleep. You'll be amazed what a difference you have the next morning and especially if you keep going for a while. The plastic doesn't allow your skin to breathe so your skin seems to have no choice but to absorb that moisture. I'm no skin fundi at all but it worked when I was desperate. Still think you're a hero though!

It's hormonal changes so start from the inside out not the other way around. Take supplements for menopause and eat healthy, drink water and get proper rest so your body has te to process these changes. Won't happen over night, but stay positive and don't worry about it too much. It's a privilege to go old, take care of yourself first and foremost so you can grow old gracefully and without too much cortisol. One day at a time❤

Nooe, This belief is an example of “common sense” being wrong. Ask a dermatologist and they will tell you that unless you have a serious deficiency of some vitamin or mineral, what you eat and drink does not have much effect on your skin. The products you put on your skin are effective because you can get a useful amount to the skin and some products penetrate to some skin layers. Glycolic acid has a small molecule size so it gets deeper into pores than other exfoliants. You could never eat or drink enough glycolic acid (if it was safe) to get enough in your skin to make a difference. Drinking a lot of water is good for your kidneys as long as you don’t overdue it, but it won’t hydrate your skin - you have to apply a topical product to hydrate your skin. Collagen powders might be an exception - there is some data supporting ingesting them.

@@DallasNatureLover to a degree you’re correct, however, as a nurse practitioner I can say one of the ways we can immediately test for hydration while waiting for blood work, is to pinch the skin (the skin turgor test) to see if it immediately goes back or if it tents. Thus, the skin is affected by the level of hydration of the cells in the body. What we put in our bodies does indeed affect our skin health. All one has to do is look at the skin of someone who has poor nutrition to notice the dull lackluster skin tone.

I follow all the lifestyle tips that you mentioned-sleep, daily exercise with weight lifting, good nutrition, etc.-all very important-but none of those would be able to do nearly as much without hormone replacement for pre- and postmenopausal women. I cannot stress how great it has been for me over the to decades since menopause! I am a scientist so I always knew the WHI study was grossly taken out of context as I sadly watched my peers age prematurely, lose their sex drive, elasticity of their skin, lose their fun nature and vitality. I am encouraged over the fact that the menopause doctors are onboard with how awesome replacing our estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone can be. It is so life changing! Thank you for mentioning it!

Once we are menopausal we are menopausal for the rest of our lives. At 66 I am on HRT, I am very healthy and will continue to take it for life. I was originally told that they would take me off it here in the UK, but so far that has not happened, it looks like things have changed here now,, so hopefully it will change for you too. I am 75 years old and in the last few years have developed crepey skin on the under sides of my upper arms, my tummy, and upper thighs. I was taking collagen capsules and found them expensive if you could actually get enough that way. I watched my 90 year old mother's skin before she died almost three years ago and realized that her skin had become so very fragile and would tear easily. I wanted to avoid that problem if I could. I started lifting free weights at home and also taking powdered collagen. It is not a miracle, but it has firmed and thickened my skin so it isn't so crepey or fragile. At almost 76, I'll take it. I also follow a semi vegetarian diet (for over 40 years now) and take quite a few supplements that I have researched over the years.

@@sylviagillam8207 I order from Amazon a 2 lb jar of collagen peptides by the brand Zammex. It lasts a long time, and I add it to my morning mug of coffee. Not everything works for everybody -- this does work for me. It is not a miracle. I still have crepey skin; it just isn't as bad as it was. I take it more for the fact that my skin is not as thin as it was before I started. I'd also suggest some of Cerave's lotions with peptides and retinol which helps build collagen in the skin. I don't think there is one silver bullet. I hope this helps.

I have been dealing with breast cancer treatment for the past year, however in the middle of this I have managed to make my skin look even better due to some changes in my supplements and routine. I look much younger than I am which is beneficial to me considering I‘ve been a professional career model since I was a teenager, so my looks literally affect my income, haha. I’m 40 now but people always think i’m somewhere between 28 and 32. And I don’t have a complicated 20 step routine. My skin was already fantastic but about a year ago right around the time I was diagnosed, I added a collagen supplement that I drink in my tea once a day, as well as adding a good vitamin C serum and good chemical exfoliants. I have never had Botox or fillers and I don’t have any fine lines around my eyes whatsoever, only two very light lines on my forehead, and slight smile lines. No bad sun spots, discoloration, and I’m soft as a babies butt 😂. I wash with a good cleanser only once a day, followed by vitamin C serum, a good face oil like squalane, then a nice thick moisturizer at night. During the day I do not wash my face, but only use the vitamin C serum, a light moisturizer, and 50 SPF beauty of Joseon sunscreen. Every other day at night I use a chemical exfoliant (do keep in mind that I do not have sensitive skin), and three days a week I use prescription Retin-A. And that’s it! On my own KZbin I’m sharing my breast cancer journey in order to hopefully help other women with breast cancer, as I’m not shy about showing my breasts, and what they look like through the process. But perhaps besides the breast cancer itself and my reconstruction I should also share my skin routine? Maybe it would help breast cancer sufferers to feel better about how they look and caring for their skin through this rough journey as well? I don’t know, I’m just pondering out loud, lol. If anyone has suggestions for what they think might also help I’m all ears, as I’m used to posing in front of a camera, not talking to one 🤣. But I’m getting much better at it! At least I hope I helped someone reading this as to what they might try skin wise! This was a good video by the Doctor. I love these professionals as apposed to “influencers”.

@vanbriannemodel

@@mySydan I totally understand that those treatments do such detrimental things to your skin, hair, and the rest of your body. I chose to have a double mastectomy as apposed to the lumpectomy and radiation that the oncologist was suggesting. There were many reasons I chose a DMX and one of them was to avoid radiation and some of the possible horrible side effects. If I have a recurrence in the future radiation is still an option. I was also a bit asymmetrical and the tumor was in my smaller breast. A lumpectomy would have made me VERY asymmetrical and would have likely ended my career. I’m so sorry that you have had to suffer both through chemo and radiation. It truly ravages the body. I’m hoping I don’t need it in the future, it scares me. I have had to endure Post Mastectomy Pain Syndrome though, which has been its own nightmare. I’m afraid the journey of breast cancer is not an easy one for any of us. I hope you are doing ok and have found some skincare products that help at least? ❤️

There was no online support at that time and although she knew many people with cancer, none had breast cancer or such a disfiguring surgery. I was a teen at the time and also very afraid. I was not able to support her the way that I wish I could have. In later years I decided to become an RN and put that experience to use with listening to my patients and at times supporting cancer patients and their families by giving them a safe place to confide their fears. Keep up the good work ❤❤

I get Botox (mostly to lift my brows to help with deep set eyes) and have had PRP 5 years ago. The dermatologist mentioned my skin looking fantastic and asked about changes. My family med doctor had suggested the pills to help my knee. That improved immensely and I am pain free. Win win I’m going to be more diligent about lotions…especially daytime. I put some on at night sometimes… not regularly enough. I have a bit of an issue on my upper arms but that’s about it. Great information! Great comments! Great presentation! It was so nice to see a knowledgeable professional informing rather than "selling"! This sounds too simple to be true, but when I see crepey skin on my body, it seems to just be a red flag that I'm dehydrated! If I over-hydrate at that point, (for me - 80 Oz of water instead of normal 64, & less if dehydrated) then it's gone in 24 hrs. Chapped lips is my other dehydration signal! Thanks for the info, though, since I do moisturize & it's helpful to know about high-quality products! Thanks!

No cream can help you moisturize and nourish the surface of the skin. Cardio and lifting weights (can be your own body weight, e.g. zi at home with pilates), purely plant-based diet with organic vegetables and fruits, colorful, vitamin c, vitamin D3, Green leafy vegetables for k2, organic algae oil for omega 3. This!!

Several years ago at one of the major department stores I wanted to purchase the StriVectin for my mom as a gift and the lady at the Cosmetic counter told me, it doesn't work save your money. So I did. There was another expensive jar of cream I purchased for her and it didn't work either. It is funny how some of the less expensive products do help in a sense.

How about Alpha Skin Care Renewal Body Lotion 12% Glycolic AHA for crepey skin? It works wonders. I order this from Amazon as my winter moisturizer. In the summer, I mix it with Versed Gentle Retinol Body Lotion (from Target). The combination of the two lotions is not as thick and perfect for summertime moisturizing. You are on the right track, Dr. Sam....retinol and actives for the whole body. Start young, kids. You will be glad you did.

Get some quality castor oil and put it everywhere on your skin while still wet from the shower. Then towel off. I've been doing this for decades and my skin looks good (I'm 71 years old). There will be better products in future. A Scientist from Cambridge Uni make a breakthrough in skin aging in 2022. It was an accidental breakthrough. He was testing Chemicals to regenerate skin, decided to try a different combination, and left it overnight. He thought 'this isn't going to work'. The next morning when he checked it, it had worked and regenerated the skin to make it look 30 years younger. They will have to test it for safety so might be a few years before being released to the public. But 30 years is amazing. Anti aging is coming.

Metabolic state is key! Aging is often blamed for things that are diet and metabolically related. If you want less crepey skin, eat an animal based, low carb diet and fast for autophagy. This videos was very helpful! I would love to see a video on oral collagen. That said, oral collagen does help me. I have arthritis and feel a difference in my knees when I am consistent with taking collagen daily. I think it may be helping my skin feel less itchy and dry. Also, after using the Omnilux face mask and seeing a reduction in the depth of fine lines and wrinkles on my face, I recently purchased a full body red light panel. I am hoping this will help with body skin health, as well as pain relief for arthritis and overall health and wellness. My knee was acting up recently and felt immediately better after a red light treatment, so I am hopeful. When I go to physical therapy, they use a laser for pain relief so I feel like the red light panel was a good investment. Take care!

Hi Dr. Sam. Thanks for this. I’m 73, left with super crepey skin after gradual 50 lb weight loss. My face and neck have responded to a regimen of 10% alpha hydroxy cream plus retinaldehyde cream which I alternate. But these products are cost prohibitive for large areas. My arms concern me most. I used to have beautiful arms. I’m a dancer. I’d like to wear tank leotards without upper arm skin flapping like bat wings when I dance. I’m going to try Glytone body lotion first. You said it can cause irritation which tells me it’s strong, my skin does well with stronger acids as long as I start slow. And the price point is very affordable. Walmart, who knew? Last but not least, I’ve been taking bovine collagen powder for a year with no visible effect on my skin, but arthritic pain is much less and my range of motion is much better.
