During the drum solo, Eloy stayed damn near on tempo at 120-122bpm, but when the whole band joins back in he slowed it down to (IIRC) 108-110bpm. The studio version stays roughly 120bpm. IMO, the slowing of the tempo just 10 bpm made it SOOOO much heavier. Just brutal. Eloy is a perfect fit for Slipknot and a phenom himself. He EARNED his way every step and DESERVES every bit of his success for all of his hard work and dedication.

I've been making some isolated drum tracks from this gig, and can say without a doubt 1- Defo not on click, you can hear the way the tempo ramps up on the intro. 2- I use triggers I can also tell that Eloy doesn't, volume backs off ever so slightly when he goes into heel-toe. Still sounds incredible, all natural, not artificially boosted volumes like you'd have with triggers.

It’s true. I believe he mentioned that fact in the video he did for Drumeo. I believe he said tempos in metal drumming will vary and flow for numerous reasons such as the energy/excitement level of the band, etc……sometimes you’ll play a bit faster or slower.

@@Vichtmc Huh? You guys realize Eloy is playing his bass drums before and after that part too, right? So before this part his bass drums are lost in the recording quality, they become alive for the part where both percussionists join and then Eloy's bass drums go silent again? Its Crahan's percussion which are literally infront of the camera. Watch the same just from the other side /watch?v=oS5uEaWG83M&t=153s and then 4:13 in the same video, which is another heavy bass drum part where you cleary hear just Eloy. Yes, that crazy huge fill was invented by Joey Jordison. With Slipknot he made 4 albums of greatness, for anyone who's passionate about drums definitely check them out. Plus, consider that Joey Jordison was a multi-instrumentalist and also contributed with guitar ideas and arrangements on the albums, which complement his drumming ideas and definitely elevated Slipknot music imensely. To me and for many other drummers, Eloy Casagrande included, Joey was one of the biggest inspirations, and I'd risk say that meteoric rise imediately after self-tittled in 1999 was due to that crazy drum sound. With that being said, yes, Eloy is a great fit for Slipknot and sounds faithfull to the source material, which is a pleasure to be alive and witness.

Jay's a good drummer but is only where he is because of his old man. From what I've heard of his attitude towards other band members in multiple previous bands he's a tool and a dick to be a round. Eloy's earned this and isn't a nepo-baby. He's pure talent and with him, drums and music absolutely come first. Eloy's plays everything to a studio standard, he hits so hard and has the tempos locked in perfectly. Whether it's a click or what, who even cares at this point.. it just sounds phenomenal. I've been a fan of Slipknot since 1999.. got a tribal S tattoo on my leg in 2001 and they fell off my radar after the vol3 cycle. This shit makes me proud to have that tattoo.

Eloy is the best fit for slipknot.. The power, the precision with that much speed and he still makes it groove..

Saw them live in Cedar Rapids years ago when Paul and Joey were still with us. It was the last show of their tour and it was insane! Joey had to be carried from his kit and off the stage after. He was so exhausted (now we know he was sick too) from the tour.

When Jay joined Slipknot for first time, everyone was complainig. He did at the end a very good job, he tried his best but never reached Joey. However now that Eloy was joined by Slipknot, I havent seen any hate comment at all. This is it!! He is the One.

Eloy Casagrande is today the best drummer in the world. Big Slipknot acquisition. It will certainly bring a lot of quality in the next albums and even in the shows.

Maybe I'm just drunk, but it kinda seemed like Eloy saw them changing guitars and made most of that fill up on the spot to give them time to get ready, and he's such a good drummer that he could switch back when Corey yelled back in. He seems to be very aware and interactive at all times, Eloy does.

what Eloy really shows is how HARD you have to hit for drums to sound really good. It's only with that amount of power that you get the full tone and weight of the drums in metal/rock music

People were saying that he was playing to a click, because of the footage showing the metronome. But, he is just referencing the metronome app at the start of songs to get a feel for the tempo. He's definitely not playing to a click on the tracks where the guitar starts the song. Because the guitar is setting the tempo and neither guitarist is wearing in ear monitors. Craig Reynolds also knows some of the guys in Slipknot and has confirmed that the band definitely don't use a click. It's possible that Eloy is playing to a click on some of the tracks he starts the song though, because he has an in ear monitor on. Could just be that he likes to hear the other instruments clearly though. He's also not using triggers and the full sounding bass drums sound awesome.

Slipknot have finally rediscovered the power behind the drums they've been lacking. Jay Weinberg did a great job (I loved what he did on “Chapter 5”) but in concert he played without a “click” and you could hear it, he often made mistakes and was sometimes far from the original. If you compare the track “Psychosocial” played live with Jay and Eloy here, it's incomparable in terms of precision and heaviness. I think all the songs on this concert with Eloy are played with a click, it's obvious or they worked a lot with Eloy. They're all hyper-precise throughout the concert....I can't wait to hear what Eloy does on the next album. Eloy pushed Sepultura to the top (just listen to “Quadra” for proof), so imagine what it could be like with Slipknot!
