During the drum solo, Eloy stayed damn near on tempo at 120-122bpm, but when the whole band joins back in he slowed it down to (IIRC) 108-110bpm. The studio version stays roughly 120bpm. IMO, the slowing of the tempo just 10 bpm made it SOOOO much heavier. Just brutal. Eloy is a perfect fit for Slipknot and a phenom himself. He EARNED his way every step and DESERVES every bit of his success for all of his hard work and dedication.

I've been making some isolated drum tracks from this gig, and can say without a doubt 1- Defo not on click, you can hear the way the tempo ramps up on the intro. 2- I use triggers I can also tell that Eloy doesn't, volume backs off ever so slightly when he goes into heel-toe. Still sounds incredible, all natural, not artificially boosted volumes like you'd have with triggers.

Yes, that crazy huge fill was invented by Joey Jordison. With Slipknot he made 4 albums of greatness, for anyone who's passionate about drums definitely check them out. Plus, consider that Joey Jordison was a multi-instrumentalist and also contributed with guitar ideas and arrangements on the albums, which complement his drumming ideas and definitely elevated Slipknot music imensely. To me and for many other drummers, Eloy Casagrande included, Joey was one of the biggest inspirations, and I'd risk say that meteoric rise imediately after self-tittled in 1999 was due to that crazy drum sound. With that being said, yes, Eloy is a great fit for Slipknot and sounds faithfull to the source material, which is a pleasure to be alive and witness.

People were saying that he was playing to a click, because of the footage showing the metronome. But, he is just referencing the metronome app at the start of songs to get a feel for the tempo. He's definitely not playing to a click on the tracks where the guitar starts the song. Because the guitar is setting the tempo and neither guitarist is wearing in ear monitors. Craig Reynolds also knows some of the guys in Slipknot and has confirmed that the band definitely don't use a click. It's possible that Eloy is playing to a click on some of the tracks he starts the song though, because he has an in ear monitor on. Could just be that he likes to hear the other instruments clearly though. He's also not using triggers and the full sounding bass drums sound awesome.

Slipknot have finally rediscovered the power behind the drums they've been lacking. Jay Weinberg did a great job (I loved what he did on “Chapter 5”) but in concert he played without a “click” and you could hear it, he often made mistakes and was sometimes far from the original. If you compare the track “Psychosocial” played live with Jay and Eloy here, it's incomparable in terms of precision and heaviness. I think all the songs on this concert with Eloy are played with a click, it's obvious or they worked a lot with Eloy. They're all hyper-precise throughout the concert....I can't wait to hear what Eloy does on the next album. Eloy pushed Sepultura to the top (just listen to “Quadra” for proof), so imagine what it could be like with Slipknot!
