Love how you say “effortless.” He makes it look so easy and yet he’s the master of intricacy, rhythm, and timing. So impressive. Have you reacted to “hypnosis” and “like that” play throughs? Hypnosis has some of my favorite fills.

I don’t play any instrument. I can’t/haven’t read music before. Yet I have been obsessed with Offerings and ii reaction videos 😅 🤦♂️ I’ve watched an ungodly amount of content on this and you my guy, my broski, are probably new favorite. Love the way you break it all down for an idiot like me 💯

I'd really love to see you react to 'Higher' or 'Like That'. I think both are songs that seem very fun to play and in both you can see the awesome footwork of II as well. Eventhough I'm not a drummer myself (I always wanted to, never got the option and now I'm missing the time and also the space at home for it), I reall, love watching drumming videos and try to understand everything. At least if I'm not able to practically drum, I am digging to know everything about it theoreticaly. Love your videos 🔥

In high school, for jazz band, kit was taught to use the butt end of the stick for more power and depth on rim shots, since we weren’t mic’d up during most performances. It was also slightly easier to switch back to traditional grip on the fly, since you’re already kind of holding it in the center. All you had to do was let the slick slide back in between your fingers rather than force that action to happen and risk dropping a stick going into matched grip. Love this breakdown of it, btw. I agree with everybody else. These other reactors seem to ignore the actual difficulty and don’t break down anything they’re explaining for non-musicians. It’s definitely a breath of fresh air.

Visually, the darker lighting has the snare highlighted a lot more compared to the rest of the kit as well - visually and audibly highlighting the difference

I believe Mike Portnoy plays with one drum stick in a reverse grip for a heavier sound

Sorry non musician here. What's the bell? And why is it called a bell? Lol my basic brain can't see a 🔔 😂
@coversandcommentary4 ай бұрын
The bell of a cymbal refers to the center point of the cymbal that curves up to where it mounts to the stand. It's called that because of its bell-like sound when you hit it with the drum stick. Unlike the rest of the cymbal which has a much more open and washy sound to it. It's usually most noticeable on a ride cymbal, but all cymbals have one. It just depends on the tone and ring. Hope that helps! 😁

@@coversandcommentary ah thanks, yep helps a lot! I love that section where he plays around that part. He does it in the summoning drum solo too. 🖤
