UK uses both imperial and metric measuring systems, a hybrid of both. It stems from our stubbornness to switch over to metric. We always measure our road distances in miles and speed in mph. We measure our body weight in pounds and stones (doctors and hospitals tend to use kg now but most non medical people in the UK use the imperial weight measurement). We measure our body height in feet and inches and our beer in pints. Every other measurement can be either system but those above things are almost always imperial.
@tobytaylor21544 жыл бұрын
@@Echodolly6 UK used imperial up until the eu stuck their noses in. Then our youth were taught metric, we kinda use both. Now we are out of that horrendous eu we can go back to using what we use to. You have to understand that all the measurements: miles,yards feet inches,gallons,ounces,pounds are all British. The metric thing was imposed a few decades ago. The term 'Imperial' suggests they are British. Gallons U.S. are called that because they are slightly less than the British Imperial Gallon. The British aren't the only people to hate change, I haven't been to France for a few years but I noticed that in their hypermarkets, the shelf price was not only shown in euros, it also showed in in French Francs

For roads im the UK we use MPH as the imperial system ia still used for that. We use both the imperial and adopted thd metric system. So no it's not the American system.

It's in British units, miles per hour.
@cideryeti79574 жыл бұрын
It's worse then that the actual system of measurement is called Imperial. Pounds and ounces, Miles per hour, Feet and inches all Imperial. Imperial gallon of petrol is more then an american gallon of petrol. Check out a conversion site and they list gallon as either US or Imperial. Edit: Spelling *sigh*
@Cheezsoup4 жыл бұрын
@@cideryeti7957 Even worse we use both sets of measurments at the same time . E.G. an 8mm sheet of four by eight (a four foot by eight foot sheet of ... 8 milimteres thick )
@cideryeti79574 жыл бұрын
@@Cheezsoup Yep it's a bloody confusing country, LOL. E.G. The off ramp markers on motorways show 300yrds, 200yrds, 100yrds, but are physically layed out using meters so it's really 300mtrs etc. Petrol is sold in liters but car specs give miles per gallon. At least a pint in a pub is still a pint and not 563ml (When they reopen of course).

Hi, Don't be surprised that the speeds are in MPH as the UK & Isle of Man still measure speed in those units, The Irish Republic ,,& the European continent use KPH.. If you want to see the consequences big riding at the TT, just search KZbin for TT Crashes.

Oh man! I have to tell you, watching this video and seeing your reactions to this admittedly kind of crazy event was ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! The Budweiser’s per freedom eagle bit was pure gold but honestly you’re editing and humour were just great. Awesome video, I’ll be checking out more of your stuff. And yes you should definitely keep up with the TT. it’s amazing
@chrisgraham51863 жыл бұрын
It doesn't make the 'freedom eagle' worth much if you measure it in poxy Budweisers🤣 - unless they're real Budweiser from Budweis (České Budějovice)… in many places, US Budweiser isn't allowed to be sold as 'Budweiser', but has to be labelled 'Bud' instead, to avoid confusion with real Budweiser beer.

“Why have I never heard of this?” Why would you? It is a motor sport where you have left-hand turns AND right-hand turns. “I’m surprised that it’s in miles per hour… but they put it in American units.” Er, what?… Please do not confuse the Isle of Man with Europe. Kilo-anything are french units. Probably one of the reasons the UK wanted out of the EU. Miles, yards, feet, inches, furlongs, chains, fathoms and leagues (and a few others) are English units. There is the decimal system of measuring stuff and the imperial system. The imperial system was developed in the British Empire and the British left it behind when the USA left the British Empire.

@Maurice Stevenson cool your shit, just shut up, he’s literally praising our sport and not being like ‘we could have done it better’ or any bs, and all you have to add is this? We don’t need a fucking history lesson about how we invented mph because he’s American and said he likes it

The TT is the oldest motorcycle race in the world, starting in 1907. The course is 37.7 miles per lap, going from sea level to over a mountain, and through several towns. It is also probably the most deadly motorcycle race in the world with something like 250 fatalities over the years. YOU ARE RIGHT, it was cancelled last year, as well as this year, but will be back in 2022. #1 on my bucket list!!

Guy Martin is a bit of a UK national hero. Not for the TT (but he was up there with the best), but because he's a truck mechanic that's so enthusiastic about engineering he started getting commissioned for TV documentaries. Just stick 'Guy Martin' in your preferred search engine; this dude's sense of humour, reputation for having a 'quiet wank' before every race, lack of fear and just crazy attitude will impress you.

"how come i've never heard of this" because you're american and the ones that are into racing think nascar is king for some reason, not knowing that v8 supers and the Australian trophy truck races are insane just like the isle of man tt and the Irish motorcycle races, you also have group b rally but that gets mentioned everywhere and isnt still a thing like the others. theres a lot of action packed edge of your seat racing but America likes to focus on itself so none of it gets any media attention over there from what i can tell.(not digging at nascar or America but i just dont enjoy it when it turns into the drivers trying to get revenge for a little nudge wide on one corner by having a fight or crashing them. from what i've seen nascar is the only racing even that has a top 10 for arguments and fights both in pit lane and on track)

On the last day bikers (spectators) are free to race around the course in reverse, its a tradition. 2001 the last year no fatalities. 260 competitor fatalities since 1911 , 6 spectators/bystanders and 10 officials and riders in practice and parade laps.
