Lyrics:
I used to be a king alone
Like Solomon or Rehoboam
And in the eaves, the Corvidae
Did jealous keep my picture frames
And everything did oxidate in place.
But then you came, a single cell
With astrolabe and carousel
And algebra and symmetry
And none of this was lost on me
And I could see how still I'd been before
If I don't eat, I don't sleep at all
Like limbs in procession,
Like so many birds
Stampeding like oxen,
Our hearts are a herd
I loved you in the best
I loved you in the best way possible
I loved you in the best

I went to see Bombay Bicycle Club in October of 2011... In the queue to get in, some guy gave me a business card thing that Dry the River were giving out, I thought that was kinda weird but it was the sort of card that you felt like it would have been a waste if you threw it away (and i'm into recycling anyway so i pocketed it). They supported them and I missed their whole set but the last, as a friend of mine wanted a fucking panini. They played 'lions den' and it got very very loud and I asked a friend of mine what their set was like and they said 'yeah it was good.' This particular review was enough for me to type their name into youtube when I got home. I listened to this song and I almost wanted to dislike the band because it was so fucking good. the video was so fucking cool and the lyrics were interesting... the vocal melodies were mesmerising and everything about the band was cool - from the grungey album art to the humble english-gent characters that were behind the band. I idolised this band for 5 years straight. After i'd completely rinsed Alarms in the Heart for about a year or so, I briefly stopped listening to them (maybe 5 months) but one day thought I would see what they're up to or if there was any new music. There was. There was an EP called 'Hooves of Doubt' and it was released along with the announcement that the band was splitting. They had been broken up for 5 months and i didn't even know. I have all their records signed, I've seen them four times and it took me 5 months to find out they split. Why? Because people didn't fucking buy their records or go to their shows enough. IF YOU LIKE A BAND. FUCKING BUY THEIR SHIT AND GO TO THEIR FUCKING GIGS OR SHIT LIKE THIS HAPPENS. FUCK. THERE'S BANDS LIKE WHEATUS ARE STILL TOURING AND SHIT. HOW IS IT THAT WHEATUS IS A BAND BUT DRY THE RIVER ISNT. WHAT THE FUCK IS EARTH

I felt like sharing. I only first heard Dry The River in 2013, when they toured with Biffy Clyro, but I immediately fell in love with their music. I was shocked and so sad to read that they split last year, especially since I had seen them live again not too long before. I was contemplating going to that gig, went back and forth because I was cutting back on going to gigs due to being a poor student. Literally the same day I realized I couldn't not go, because their set as an opening act that time had been one of the greatest live experiences of my life, and I thankfully decided to go. I am so immensely glad I did, because I know I would be beating myself up over it if I had not gotten to see them live before the split. I talked to Matt after the gig and thanked them for coming to my city and that I enjoyed their live performances so much. He was really nice and seemed so genuinely happy to talk to a fan, and I left with the memory of a great gig with one of the most unique bands I have ever had the luck of experiencing.

This is why it’s so so important to support bands. I feel that there’s not enough support for up and coming bands anymore, most times a really good support band are on, the audience are either on their phones or talking to each other. If I didn’t pay attention to support bands, I wouldn’t have found Lui Bei, Flyte, Aurora just to name a few!

This video seems to me to be taken from 1st Kings chapter 18 in the bible. They prepared sacrifices for a contest between the God of Israel and Baal. The prophets of Baal danced around the sacrifices and the altar (in those days a pile of stone was most common), trying to get the attention of Baal. When nothing happened Elijah instructed that the sacrifices and the altar should be drenched in water, the his God answered by sending fire from heaven. Just a theory, pretty cool video either way!

Recently came across this band. Absolutely love them! Thinking about the video this may be little far-fetched but the way I interpret it is as a reversal of the 7 days of creation. Rather than ending with a day of rest, the video uses the story of genesis in reverse to signify hardships and the inability to rest. Beginning with the day of rest with the band members lying on the earth, followed by the appearance of man with the guys dancing around, reference to the appearance of other creatures such as birds, the fire signifying light/dark, the water signalling the formation of the oceans and then the ending with light. Could be the case, or complete nonsense and just the way I see it.

Alex Heald Personally, I see 1 kings 18:16-40. Where Elijah challenged the profits of Baal to call out and to there god and set fire to an altar. After many unsuccessful attempts, Elijah poured water on his altar and prayed God would send fire. He did and the fire consumed the entire altar. (hints the light at the end of the video)

The song and this music video have stuck with me for years. I find it on the back of my mind sometimes, like a memory that's so old you're not sure anymore if it was a dream. There's something so visceral and intimate about this, and I find myself looking for a similar feeling in other media (I don't find it often). It manages to be both masculine and vulnerable, sexual and poetic. Whatever it is that has brought you today, dear reader, I hope your heart is full and your day is beautiful.

I remember the first time I heard this song was a mahogany session live. I wasn't able to find it ever again. Wish I could somehow hear it again. Does anyone here know what I'm talking about?

2011 Geez time flies. Great band, good tune. Btw, no offence but am I the only one who thinks his voice sounds like 1970's Demis Roussos? lol? Aphrodite's Child - The Four Horsemen (Vangelis, Progressive rock, psychedelic rock) Google it maybe then you will know what I mean. Cheers peeps, happy listening! P.S. Come to think of it Peter Liddle's voice sounds exactly like Roussos' in "My Friend The Wind" NOT kidding! lol. TC
