Is that just drywall mud you're using to attach to the brick? Or a special adhesive?

It's cornice cement or masonry adhesive. Not regular base coat

That bolt looked like a Titan bolt...a huge tap-con. Some plans let you use those instead of epoxy bolts to retrofit old walls for new shear...well at least here in America.... the GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH!!!!!! (not some puny Island in the Pacific... where the inhabitants are descendants of prisoners..;)..
