When servicing or converting your 3 pawl DT Swiss hubs, this typically requires a special tool that costs about $70. This method allows you to remove it without that special DT Swiss tool.

really useful to see this. I struggled like hell to get the ring off. watched this and used a hair dryer to add heat. It came off without a problem

Thank you so much for posting this. I cannot express how grateful I am. You deserve some sort of medal or something. I truly hope you have a great day, as you have saved mine. Cheers!

Great video; to the point, all the important info, included the reasoning behind what you did. Thank you. Also 99Project's doesn't need an apostrophe, unless you're writing it as though the name is 99Project and it possesses something.

Great vid! I've had success using a heat gun for similar purposes.

I tried to remove the ring and between two people the vise broke, I'm going to try it with a pneumatic screwdriver, the correct direction to unscrew is to turn the key in the opposite direction of pedaling, right?

There's 24 points of engagement there. Look closely. The 350s come with 18, 36, or 54 points. I'm fairly certain the 370s are all 24 points. Your presentation, technique and thought process is excellent. Make more videos. I subscribed.

You should remind that in order to use this cassette removal tool you have to deal with removal of the 15 mm bushing + bearings package before. . So at the end of the day, is probably better to leave this package installed and get the specific tool..
@99-Projects2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what you mean, the DT swiss tool does the exact same thing as what i show in the video. the same parts need to be removed to get to the ring itself.
@federicob75212 жыл бұрын
@@99-Projects I mean the DT specific removal tool has 15.8 mm hole so the 15 mm shaft with bearings do not need to be removed. In case you don't mind with this step, your suggestion is good. I have just gone through it with specific tool and could remove the ring only after several trials with increasing heat transfer and increase force.

Can you buy the conversion kit with the 54t? All I can find are 18 and 36
@DaBinChe2 жыл бұрын
no, cheapest to buy the 18t conversion kit and get the 54t upgrade kit

I’m trying to find out if this upgrade can only be for dt Swiss wheels because i got crankbrothers synthesis wheels and I’m trying to convert it to a ratchet system does anyone has a experience on this? I just want better angagement I have a three paw on my wheels trying to upgrade and ratchet system is one of the best out there

I just ordered a china version of the tool off ebay for under $20, hopefully it works.

and what was the result? Im not gonna order tool for the half price of my wheel
@DaBinChe2 жыл бұрын
@@CriispyHere worked fine...but the parktool cassette remover tool with 1"hex works too on the 26tooth paw wing

Great idea thanks! I would like to give this a try but you don't show how you installed the new ring!
@ccmmrrnn Жыл бұрын
You just thread it in by hand with a bit of anti-sieze on the threads. By the time you install the ratchet rings, freehub, cassette, and put a few pedal strokes into it it will be tight. Just double check the torque on your rear axle during and after the first ride.

@@ccmmrrnn Thank you!

could you have used WD40 to penetrate the threads instead? Will that damage the hub?
@99-Projects3 жыл бұрын
WD40 would likely not make any difference as the issue is not corrosion its just really tight from the forces applied during riding. The heat method just drastically reduces the forces applied to the hub and spokes and tools during removal.

Is this the same or similar for SRAM Rail 40 wheel hubs?

Sorry, I'm not sure on the SRAM Rail hubs.

Impact gun works fine but you need a very high power one.
@99-Projects3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I would say the impact gun is optional, with a little heat it would have come out by hand fairly easily.

What about installing the new ring into the hub? Were you also able to use the cassette tool to do that?
@99-Projects3 жыл бұрын
Yes I installed the splined 54T ring. I just installed it finger tight, once the wheel is installed on the bike, the force applied to the pedals and chain during riding will constantly tighten the ring so there is no risk of it coming loose. So really there is no need to go crazy when tightening the replacement during installation.
