I reckon the straight shaft drives are definitely the way to go eh. Simple in design. Nothing to go wrong. Just power from the motor delivered direct to the propeller.
@honorharrington45463 жыл бұрын
Sail drives are more common because of less alignment time and a drier bilge. Shaft drives require more setup and can make for a wet bilge but they sail a bit faster due to not having the drive leg sticking down in the water all the time and turbulence around the drive leg/boot/hull area.

Roscoe - you are striking off the milestones and this certainly was a major one. In the words of a well known You Tuber in the boat restoration field ‘ the engines sure look pretty dang spiffy’. Not sure if was the angle of dangle with the camera but the fleeting points seemed to suspend the engines out of plumb and it looked like you needed a third leg (maybe to one of the mounts) to keep it plumb? Anyhoo - you got it done and that’s all that matters, you are a great team. At some point in the future when you are progressing the deck structure you could cover the engine removal routes and how those hatches are effected? Best regards Roscoe.😀⛵️👍PS why not build the bloody shaft guard out of ply….ply ……f’n PLYWOOD.🤣🤣😎

The organisation to get the fork into the back of the tent is monumental,I have to move stairs and fences each,it was easier to just lift it across,but given more time yes,the fork would have been great.The crane has about 8 feet of extra reach so without a tyne extension for the fork,it was no good for the motor install.Ross

Hi Ross just a quick question about the engines they are obviously very nice Yanmar ones I remember you purchasing them at the start of the build approx 4 years ago. Now technology marches on how has it worked out are the more recent ones slightly better or were these a bargain?
@LifeOnTheHulls3 жыл бұрын
Gidday Glenn, these were purchased only 2 years ago and are the latest in the range from Yanmar. They are the Common Rail, NMEA version so to date they are the upgrade version being mounted in all new production Cats from Seawind 1370 , Lagoon, Balance and Prestige. Given pricing is now well above what I pad for them I believe i struck a good deal. Rossco from
@honorharrington45463 жыл бұрын
Looking great Rossco! When setting up the prop shafts you might consider a built in 12" extension with mounting flange on both ends. This would sit between the flange on the end of the prop shaft and the Isolator drive bolted to the transmission output flange. This would make removing the transmission so much easier without trying to push the prop shaft back out of the way. Just something to consider.
@donr4163 жыл бұрын
How will you ever get those engines out after the boat is completed?
@LifeOnTheHulls3 жыл бұрын
A hole cut into the deck will be an option as there is a deck hatch above, A bevelled hole large enough to remove the motors, or a possible access through the back steps, sliding on rails is an option. I know guys with 60 year old plus yanmar engines that are still like new, so hopefully that wont be a problem. Ross
