Bloody hell Rossco I've seen it all now, how do you manage to get Janet to help you so much without any fuss? The engine's look damn cracking in their forever homes and as you mentioned, tonnes of room to do any fixes you may but hopefully not need to do!!!. I had a moment there when you said plywood on the fourth time I thought anyminute now Rossco is going to shout " will you just shut the F up!" Sure was surprised when you didn't though haha 😆. Looking forward for next week's video now! As always brother 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.

Many thanks for the videos. Love the balance of content not too much chat but just enough to let us know what is going on, info, tips etc. Too many channels spend so much time (filling I think as they don’t have enough interesting content) of them getting out of bed, getting dressed, boiling the kettle, you get the drift. Have a small boat myself and your videos have given me confidence to tackle jobs that I may not have without your vids. Again thanks.

I reckon the straight shaft drives are definitely the way to go eh. Simple in design. Nothing to go wrong. Just power from the motor delivered direct to the propeller.
@honorharrington4546
@honorharrington4546 3 жыл бұрын
Sail drives are more common because of less alignment time and a drier bilge. Shaft drives require more setup and can make for a wet bilge but they sail a bit faster due to not having the drive leg sticking down in the water all the time and turbulence around the drive leg/boot/hull area.

Roscoe - you are striking off the milestones and this certainly was a major one. In the words of a well known You Tuber in the boat restoration field ‘ the engines sure look pretty dang spiffy’. Not sure if was the angle of dangle with the camera but the fleeting points seemed to suspend the engines out of plumb and it looked like you needed a third leg (maybe to one of the mounts) to keep it plumb? Anyhoo - you got it done and that’s all that matters, you are a great team. At some point in the future when you are progressing the deck structure you could cover the engine removal routes and how those hatches are effected? Best regards Roscoe.😀⛵️👍PS why not build the bloody shaft guard out of ply….ply ……f’n PLYWOOD.🤣🤣😎

The organisation to get the fork into the back of the tent is monumental,I have to move stairs and fences each,it was easier to just lift it across,but given more time yes,the fork would have been great.The crane has about 8 feet of extra reach so without a tyne extension for the fork,it was no good for the motor install.Ross

Hi Ross just a quick question about the engines they are obviously very nice Yanmar ones I remember you purchasing them at the start of the build approx 4 years ago. Now technology marches on how has it worked out are the more recent ones slightly better or were these a bargain?
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls 3 жыл бұрын
Gidday Glenn, these were purchased only 2 years ago and are the latest in the range from Yanmar. They are the Common Rail, NMEA version so to date they are the upgrade version being mounted in all new production Cats from Seawind 1370 , Lagoon, Balance and Prestige. Given pricing is now well above what I pad for them I believe i struck a good deal. Rossco from

Looking great Rossco! When setting up the prop shafts you might consider a built in 12" extension with mounting flange on both ends. This would sit between the flange on the end of the prop shaft and the Isolator drive bolted to the transmission output flange. This would make removing the transmission so much easier without trying to push the prop shaft back out of the way. Just something to consider.

A hole cut into the deck will be an option as there is a deck hatch above, A bevelled hole large enough to remove the motors, or a possible access through the back steps, sliding on rails is an option. I know guys with 60 year old plus yanmar engines that are still like new, so hopefully that wont be a problem. Ross

These are 4jh57, so in line with teh blurb from Yanmar. In common with all of YANMAR’s new generation of marine diesel engines, the 4JH series was designed from the outset specifically for marine applications. The 4JH45 four-cylinder, 2.2 ltr, naturally aspirated engine delivers 57 mhp at 3,000 rpm. It meets EPA Tier 3 and RCD 2 (2016) emissions standards. Cheers Ross

@@LifeOnTheHulls Good choice. Treated well you can get 12,000 hours or more. Turbos are doing well to last 4,000 hours.
