Ducati Monster 2021 - Better than the 821?

Another bike I have been keen to try to see if it's an improvement on the previous 821 model.

A very well rounded review. I’ve done some 2500 miles on mine since June and pretty much agree with all you’ve said. I’m 6’1” tall and find it very comfortable; ok, so the numb bum starts kicking in after some 2 hours, but after a short break I’m good to go again. But, even after a full day’s riding, I’m left with no aches and pains in the wrists and hips as was the case with my Speed Triple 1050R. The engine is perfect out on the open road but, as you say, a little lumpy in town and also a touch on the warm side! For me, it is an absolute joy to ride and the perfect complement to my Multistrada 950. This has now done over 53000 miles without any issues whatsoever since I got it in 2017, so I have no doubts that the Monster will be just as reliable. Hoping so anyway.

Cheers Neil, wow 53000 miles, that’s amazing. I did wonder how Ducati’s would fair after a higher mileage but you have proven that they can cut it. I guess it’s frequent use that keeps them in good working order. Glad you’re enjoying the bikes. Cheers

I had a test ride in the Peak District in July and went straight back to try to do a deal. I've ridden those roads for many years and never had so much fun. Nowhere in Yorkshire or the midlands has got one. Nothing until September/October so I traded in my bike and placed an order. Ducati red for me.

nice review thank you. From a 821 owner, i fully agree with your comments on the monster and although i love mine i do miss the adjustable suspension, for the money it should be there - maybe not a top of the line ohlins set but a good adjustable suspension front and rear should be part of the monster offering (there was the 821 stripe back in 2015 and i remember adj suspension was part of the package). As for riding into town its like you said, i found out that a servo buddy helps but dont expect miracles..

I have the Monster 821 Stealth with adjustable suspension and really have nothing to complain. Also the quickshifter is really great! 🙂

Yes, there is a 821 stealth versione that has the adj suspension. What did you mean for servo buddy?

@@XiXiinCina i have the racing termis on my 2015 821 monster including the up map. Air filter is stock.. The up-map tho does not take care the exhaust valve, with the servo buddy i surpassed that, maybe its placebo but i remember feeling a difference in lower rpm's too. As i said before no miracles. you can google it for info i think mine is from skutrnet but there are a few to choose from

I rather think I love the bike. What is it with the 2 cheapo looking reservoirs on the bars? I could overlook 1 of them but 2? And, they're different sizes. Looks Heath Robinson to me.

What is your opinion comparing this to mt09 2021 that you had test before ?

Hey, I would say that they are both very nice bikes and I think it comes down to personal taste for the type of engine you like or which brand you prefer but for me I would probably lean towards the MT-09 because I think it’s just as fast, the engine is a little more versatile for lower speeds as well as having fun, the engine didn’t seem to have the noticeable heat transferred to the rider on my test ride and then the price is around £1500 cheaper (for the standard model). I see where you are coming from, I enjoyed this bike and it was very good in a lot of ways but the test ride did not quite persuade me enough to go for it.

By a mile! I bought one 2 weeks the 937 monster is lighter, more torque, more horsepower, slimmer, better suspension and overall handling. The 821 looks like a fat pig next to it, that trellis frame is old, heavy and dated!!
