I think you missed a key point, which is that Donald remembers Dewey. When Dewey returns, no time has passed. But Donald smiles at him and says"Welcome back!" It changes some moments in the series. Perhaps the most notable being that Donald remembers a kid time traveling desperate to meet Della. So when Della wants to go on a dangerous adventure after she's just laid eggs, he knows it's a horrible idea that will end in tragedy. Which is why he fights with Della and hates Scrooge, he knew he was going to lose his sister but they went through with the plan anyway

Way it's never confirmed if it's a "sibling calling a sibling by their embarrassing full name" thing like how Louie is technically named Llewellyn in this incarnation, or a "kid thinking they're coming up with a clever insult by replacing a syllable with 'dumb'" thing that happens to be a real world mythology gag is hilarious to me.

My favorite, though probably most easily noticed, detail is the sweater. The fact that if you paid attention earlier in the episode, Donald as an adult is wearing that exact Christmas sweater (the one too big for him) Della gave him. That to me is just sort of the extra little gut punch to the feels.

I think the reason they don’t usually punish Dewey is because he usually learns his lesson by the end so it doesn’t make sense to punish him. However they don’t always portray that the best so it makes it seem like he’s just getting away with stuff
@jordancampbell85979 ай бұрын
This is way late, but a huge part of the issue is that it's always the same lesson. Dewey is constantly acting out and showing off and doing dangerous things, and most of the time, it's so he can glorify himself and constantly has to learn that, no, he's not God's gift to the universe and he's a kid who needs to listen to the grown-ups. And this lesson **never** sticks.
@SuperSongbird213 ай бұрын
@@jordancampbell8597 Well, he's what, ten? Even without the nature of the show, chances are a kid his age wouldn't learn lessons as quickly as the adults would like him to. And he may just be learning the wrong lessons - instead of "Don't tag along with Uncle Scrooge when he clearly wants to be alone" Dewey just learned "Don't go time travelling".

Honestly, I feel like the whole “Dewie could’ve been stuck in the past” bit isn’t really a concern here. The OG Ducks recognize him as a time traveler, so if Old Scrooge hadn’t picked him up then the kids would just tell Young Scrooge “ hey, this is our future descendent. Can you remember to pick him up in a few years?” And Dewey would just have to tell him what year he left in. But yeah, Dewey definitely got away with more than he should. It wouldn’t bother me that much if they hadn’t punished Louie so harshly later on just to add extra cruelty by going on his favorite adventure without him, abandoning the poor kid at home alone.
@ghostslayer19813 ай бұрын
Actually. We gotta note. Louie literally.got GROUNDED for once in his life, even when he specifically learned his lesson, and.they even called out that just because Louie.learned his lesson, he thinks he should he free, which is swiftly shut down. Dewey literally endangers everyone more then he does, yet is let go because "awww he has puppy eyed and is acting sweet hes fine." Like jeez!
@OmegaX93 ай бұрын
@@ghostslayer1981 honestly if it was just the grounding, I think I’d be okay with that. Louie had to learn that not everything can be solved with apologies and learning life lessons, and Della needed to learn how to be stern when it was required. It was how their next family adventure was to the place Louie most wanted to visit but was banned from going (keeping in mind that Louie is also the most reluctant one to go on adventures) while the family repeatedly called him while experiencing everything he wanted to but couldn’t that I can’t stand. I respect Louie for taking advantage of the situation with their rogues gallery to briefly become the richest duck in the world, but part of me wanted Louie to use that scheme to say “no, I’m done with this family and with adventuring”; this would’ve really shaken up the status quo and forced everyone to think more about their family dynamic. I know they didn’t have time to do this while also preparing for Moonvasion, it’s just something I wish I could’ve seen.
@ghostslayer19813 ай бұрын

I watched both your Ducktales discussions. I think what sets Dewey and Louie apart is intention. Louie makes a conscious decision to do something bad that can hurt others versus Dewey who does something reckless but he never meant to harm anybody. As for the episode where Dewey blaming Scrooge for what happened to his mother, you have to understand that for the whole season that Dewey was actively trying to find his mother and he felt the weight of the secret weighing down on him the more he discovered. When Scrooge opened up and shared what happened, Dewey is hurt in both ways because it showed him that: 1) Scrooge did not stop Della from taking flight as Scrooge put so much faith in her coming back home safely, 2) Della decided to act recklessly instead of thinking of her own sons and Dewey feels a certain sense of betrayal that Scrooge was enabling her worst habits. It gets addressed in the following seasons but I really contribute Dewey being "selfish" as not going out of his way to hurt others but rather a way to stay true to himself. It's not like he narcissistically makes people feel bad because he has great emapthy (Let's Get Dangerous toward Gosling) and is the heart of the triplets. With Loiue being the clever one and Huey being the smart/wise one, it would make sense Dewey is the one that dew-eys things. TL;DR: Dewey is a character I enjoy because he reminds me of myself and I wish that I had a family that never talked down on me for being weird.

Ok made up on the spot fan theory: in one of Scrooge’s early trips with the spirits they took him to this very party as a vision of the future, he remembered seeing his much older self fight the beagle boys. This means present day Scrooge was aware that his future self was coming and not wanting to deal with the Beagle Boys or people looking for investors, snuck out the exact moment they arrived.

That one guy who tries to sell Scrooge on finding square rocks is a reference to a classic comic book story called "Lost In The Andies" by Carl Barks, where Donald is working at a museum and ends up knocking over a sqaure rock, it shatters revealing that they are not rocks, but actaully eggs. Sqaure eggs could revolutionize how eggs are packaged and stored, therefore a crew is sent out to find the source of these square laying chickens. The rest of the crew gets sick when they eat an omalett that Huey, Dewy, and Louie whipped up using those hundred year old square eggs, and so only Donald and the kids are left to search for what turns out to be a sqaure city of square people, who own sqaure chickens. The whole story is great, creative, and funny. Years later Don Rosa did a story that was a sequel to it and another called "The Second Richest Duck". This sequel is called "Return To Plain Awful" and I highly recconmend you read both of them if you haven't before, you'll have a good time

I think something that tended to get overlooked a lot is, while the boys lost a mom, Donald lost his own sister. I think when Donald sees the photo it's a beautiful homage to the fact that he lost her too and that not a day goes by where he didn't miss her. Also, there is a moment where Dewey gets called out for his nonsense, and it's when Huey and Louie find out he was looking for Della alone. So I guess my point is while Dewey was looking for his lost mom, he forgot his family lost Della too. And it hurts.

I think Dewey got the short end of the stick in this iteration. Scrooge has said that to get where he is in life, you have to be the smarter than the smarties, tougher of the toughies, and sharper than the sharpies. It's also shown that the boys are meant to exemplify each of these traits: Huey is the smart one, Louie is the sharp (aka cunning) one, and Webby is the tough one...wait... Throughout the show, Webby is shown to be the rough and tumble fighter given her upbringing. While this is fine, it robs Dewey of one of Scrooge's main traits. He's brave, yes, but he's not in the same league as Huey on smarts or Louie on cunning. Poor kid probably just feels out of place and just wants to fit in.

The best and most unique Christmas Carol story I have ever seen, the second is the Flintstones, and third is Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends. Most of the time I see a Christmas Carol or a Once Upon a Life parody I think the writers just want a cheap way to cash in during Christmas. PS: I have a theory behind why both these stories became so popular its because they both possess a formula for an ideal fantasy of someone being able to change over night. Think about it, both stories are about someone unhappy with the way there life is and through magic they get experience scenes that help change them in a short/unrealistic amount of time.

@ShadyDoorags10 ай бұрын
The frustrating part about Louie's punishment is that it was done by Della, who was taking her inability to be a good mother out on Louie. She wasn't properly punishing her children, so she overcompensated by over-punishing Louie. Della didn't know Louie well enough to properly punish him, that was Donald's area of expertise, and Louie rightfully calls her hypocritical in criticising his rash judgements when her rash judgements caused her to go missing for 10 years. The lesson Louie should've learned in that episode was to learn when to call it quits and confess your schemes before things get too far out of hand, but Della tries to force a lesson of "no more scheming at all". I feel like the writers half-way knew what they were doing because Louie proves Della wrong in the next episode, but considering Della doesn't really get called out for her behavior, I'm not 100% sure on that.

They could just look into the past to see where she landed and then tell him in modern day so he can go get her. And even if they would have said no then he could have done it when he stole the time button

The Time-Brella takes you to the place in time. Scrooge would have to be taken to Della's ship but he doesn't know where it is or even if it survived. Even if he did, Scrooge can't breathe in space, so that would likely be his death.

Are we not going to talk about the _DuckTales_ NES game reference with Scrooge's pogo cane off the "Whendego"? d: Also, rest in peace, Russi Taylor. You were a delight. 💚

There are multiple episodes where Scrooge uses his cane as an intentional reference to the NES game, so I didn't feel the need to bring it up here. The show even has an explanation as to why the cane works that way.

Eh. If you ever cover the episode where Gyro gives Scrooge his pogo-cane, you can always mention it as a reference there. On a similar note, I kinda wonder if hearing "The Moon" a million times over had the same effect on you that it did on me. (A very *negative* one.)

With all the praise you have for this serie's references and call backs, you really need to cover the finale and how badly they botched the Gargoyles reference.

Yea! Another Ducktales video! This show is an example of a reboot done right.

The way I interpreted Past never being able to find Scrooge was that he was always away on Christmas eve with the spirits, assuming they found him the Christmas after he ditched Past
