I loved Tom Petty from the first time I heard him on the radio, and I marked every epoch of my life by his new albums. Wildflowers is my favorite, and his spirit is with us forever. Greatest American band and Tom was the greatest songwriter ever. Now I imagine him playing with Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Howie Epstein and all the greats who've passed. Thank you for posting this amazing concert. Wow. Sends me to heaven . Right here on earth. ❤😢

This is an extraordinary document of an integral moment in the history of the Heartbreakers. New energy with Ferrone in the band, and Howie still performing at the peek of his abilities (and looking like an absolute bad ass). I love this band so much. they were never quite the same again without Howie. I love Ron Blair, but once Howie was gone, there was always a massive musical void in the Heartbreakers for me at least.
@TatersUnited5 жыл бұрын
I love the Wildflowers era Heartbreakers. The early to mid 90's were like a second wind for the band. Not many bands continue to write hits into their mid 40's. Name another group that achieved their initial success in the 70's and were still performing relevant and exciting material in the 90's!

What I notice about Tom during this time, at the early nighties, is that he looks so happy onstage, often flirting with the audience and looks healthy. Howie was a big big loss. His voice.. my god. And always so humble (like the rest of the band).

so hard to take it in. I keep forgetting. more like i still can't believe it, or I keep forgetting. he brought so much life to me and to so many with his music and that smile and that sense you get that he's up on stage but it's no big deal because really he's right there next to you. it's been hard to deal with losing so many of my heroes but with tom its a whole other level of familiarity and respect and the love of his directness straight through the heart. he's just so alive, he just embraced it so easily and so well that it's just makes it that much harder to take it in that he's gone.

I love this testament to Tom and the Heartbreakers' amazing live offerings but I hate watching Tom try to engage with Mike at this show. Tom is so high and Mike isn't having it. I really hate that I read about Tom's death on the bus thinking "life support" was a new album. We all share the struggle, but not all of us survive it despite our best efforts. Thank you for these slices of beauty:)

@rosemarywaldron4976 жыл бұрын
I know that Tom snd the ♡Breakers did not end their concerts in the '70s, '80s, with American Girl! He must have begun doing that in the 90s sometime that I'm not sure of the exact year! Maybe someone here knows what year that tradition begin?
@jefsiv6 жыл бұрын
Alot of times he began with AG.
@kimberlybellefontaine12156 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I guess many of the concerts I've seen here on KZbin ENDED with American girl .....but I can also understand opening with it. It was one of the very first tunes that put TP & the HBers on the map, so to speak......so it makes sense he might end or even begin with it. During the concert I just watched, he said "this is an oldie, one that started it all for us....." :). Funny. I could always take or leave that song, it was never one of my REAL faves, but the more I listen to it, the more I truly love it. I think it's because I picture them singing it when they were VERY young.....late 70's....and it makes me smile every single time now :) ❤️ God bless 'em all.....and RIP Tom (who's with Howie now). He is so sorely missed.......
@Hapax0076 жыл бұрын
I've also noticed several with American Girl as the opening song. I guess he changed his set list a bit from time to time.
