Do you feel like they’re a worthwhile exercise? I’m thinking about adding them to my routine just cause I’m not crazy about barbell deadlift anymore and I’m more interested in mostly calisthenics these days however I still want a hip hinge exercise like this in my routine

@@ImInTheeEntrymf did you do for the first time bro? Same happened to me, i skipped one hamstring day because of the soreness from a noble 3 sets of SLDL. I think it has to do more with the new type of stimulus rather than sheer muscle activation from SLDL 😅

creating a larger emphasis on leaning forward is something that isn't stated here, isolating the hamstrings on a hinge is highly dependent on relative shoulder position to hip. the cue (chest up, isn't specific enough)

First day impressions:It arrived in a waist high box. kzbin.infoUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 Each dumbbell was in its own foam box within the shipping box. Everything was secure and in good shape. No weird smells. The weight changing mechanism is really smooth and straight forward. Changing weight is really fast and easy. Though the handle is plastic, I don't think it will be breaking anytime soon. So far pretty impressed after my first session with them. I was afraid they were going to be too wide at first, but I didn't have any issues with them while doing upright rows.

he is actually doing it kinda wrong, he hugs the weight to his body. They weight should go straight down. If he picks up any meaningful weight, his form will automatically change.

the further out you hold the weight, the greater the moment (torque) on the spine
@dante_di_martino Жыл бұрын
@@m_t_t_ yes i know, but that does not change the fact that you are not able to hold it close to body. Physics will simply not allow it. The gravity will pull the weight automatically in such a way that your arms will be parallel with the vector of gravity or something like that.
@m_t_t_ Жыл бұрын
@@dante_di_martino there will be a force pulling the arms to the equilibrium position, but because the angle is so small the force is small too. If you used 45kg dumbbells, and there was an angle of 20 degrees from the 'straight' position, the force would be equivalent to the force of a 15kg weight due to gravity, if it was 10 degrees then it would be 7.5kg
@rjmari9 ай бұрын
Old comment, I know. But it makes no sense. The weight *is* going straight down. It starts above his feet and ends above his feet in the same position. His feet aren't moving, therefore the weight is going straight up and down.

I’m doing this exercise. If I want the most hamstring activation, how should I do this?
@dante_di_martino3 жыл бұрын
@@bonkersdonkers7381 you need to do it like he does, but the weight should go straight down. But actually the most important thing is to feel the stretch in the back of your legs, experiment a little bit, once you get it right once, you will know right away. The stretch is strong and you cannot mistake it with anything else. Don't round your back and brace your core for more stability on descent.

@@dante_di_martino thanks for the tip!
@clarkkant53223 жыл бұрын
Nope, you should engage your lats and keep the weight as close to your shins as possible. What do you think happens if you let 400+ lbs dangle in front of you? You fall over. Bar has to be over mid foot so your center of gravity stays over your feet. If you want more erector work you can ignore that cue, but then you have to use much less weight and the hamstrings get less stimulus.
@dante_di_martino3 жыл бұрын
@@clarkkant5322 you should try that shit with a 100kg dead lift, no way in hell you are going to keep it pinned to your body. You should stabilize it with lats, but not to the extent it rips your shin skin off.
