i did all the welding on the fl70 flatbed project outside....shop is off of a lake and wind was always an issue. this is coming along nicely. i like the idea of using a hydraulic jack. i would not suggest putting the battery under the dump bed. when it goes dead (and it will at the absolute worst time) you wont be able to get to it. i would also install "anderson connectors" with cables coming from the tow vehicle's battery with the other end connected to this trailer battery. you will never have a low battery due to a not enough charging amperage coming from that little 10 gauge wire in the 7 pin connector. cant wait to see the gussets you add to that hitch plate. nicely done. it is looking great.
@j_moffitt5 жыл бұрын
If I put it underneath I would make it accessible from the bottom but still not ideal, and I like the idea of a hot lead separate from the 7pin good idea👍🏼 Merry Christmas Mr. J.C.

8:30 put a solid member (top of c-channel to bottom of c-channel) steel / stiffener in that ''moment connection"... not the ''brace'' you described and if you can, make it three times wider than the bracket below... it will distribute better for you... And, at your ''26 degree" do that same there ... this is where your forces are ''redirecting from" (plus that front weld)... Thought on your first video, if you would have switch one axle around, they might have resolved their 1/4" differences... Take care.

Hi J just found your Chanel. After watching both videos, I would like to suggest that you get some 6” x 1/8 strap and box in the tongue channel to at least six inches back of the bend. Reasoning is,that is a long tongue and channel dose not have a very good side or twist load ability. Don’t know about you, but I know that if it will fit it will get put in the trailer (what ever “it” happens to be ) in other words it’ll get over loaded real easy. Just my 2 cents worth. Thanks for sharing your videos, and a Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎄

dont put the battarys and pump under the bed if you have a problem its a pain in the as* to deal with as you have no way to raise the bed up to get to it we had a dump trailer at my old work that was setup that way the pump failed and the way it was put in we couldnt even get to the lines we had to cut the crossmember that held the hydro cyl. and lift the bed with a skid loader.
@toddroot17572 жыл бұрын
I built one dump trailer with a winch pulling a custom arm with a pivot in the middle and a large wheel on the opposite end making contact onto a plate on the underside of the dump to do the lifting. I am building a smaller one nowand am going to try using a landing gear from a travel trailer as the lifting device. I have pictures of the first one at this time. Pictures of the current one I'll have soon.

Don't worry about vertical down with er70** solid wire. The arc stays in front of the pool so when it starts to sag, it's already cooling and looks so much better. I like the longer tongue on trailer but your axles are so far back do you think that it’s gonna be too heavy with and without it loaded. Whatever your hauling trailer with is gonna have a ton of tongue weight. I can’t really tell exactly from the videos but it just appears that way to me. I have plans to build trailer similar but I’m planning on a 16’ with low sides. Looks pretty solid tho
@rgthomson1005 жыл бұрын
I thought the same and there gonna be a lot of weight goes on the back of the truck but then trailers for tractors are built like that cause the tractor can take it, so it could be for a tractor
@pepperjones3895 жыл бұрын
Looks great. My only real question is does that tongue seem really long? Especially considering how far back those axles are? It may be just the perspective from the video but that seems like a lot of tongue weight?

How many dump trailers have you built? Proportions seem really out of wack. The tongue looks too long and the rear axle looks really close to the tailgate. I'm excited to see a channel that covers content like this but seems like there are some fatal flaws here to be worked out. If your not familiar with trailers you will want 60% of the weight in front of the axles and 40% in the rear. Looks like only 10-20% on the rear currently.

The tongue should be out of 8” channel. And 82” long. Measure back 32” from the front of the frame. That’s the ending point of the tongue. Then add 8” channel from where the tongue stops under the frame all the way to the first hanger. The channel will weld to the front hanger. You will fail if you don’t follow my instructions.
