it's racist making any choice because of somebody's skin color. That's the irony, the left is trying to completely obliterate racism, but because of either white guilt, or thinking "the system" is still favoring white people, etc... they're making choices and decisions purely based on peoples skin color. Which is racist. It might be racist against the people they think are "bad" and in favor of people of "color"... but it's still making choices SOLEY because of someone's skin color, which is fucking racist. LOL. As a black man, I will NEVER fly United Airlines again! My uncle used to fly for United Airlines after serving in the USAF. BTW, he became a pilot in the USAF BEFORE there was affirmative action, now known as DEI! I remember when I got my pilot's license, and got my first job, I actually had to be better to be considered equal! DEI really demeans black people and other minority groups as it says that we can't meet the standard and spits in the face of the Tuskegee airmen, Jesse Brown, Carl Brashir, and other black people who had to become almost superhuman to open doors of opportunity for black people today! I am saving to buy my own airplane and just fly myself where I need to go in the USA! When I need to travel overseas, I ALWAYS fly foreign airlines where I know they don't have this DEI nonsense! In 1989 United was forced to hire massive amounts of basically anyone except a white male. A Hispanic friend of mine went to interview and was handed a job with no interview and no flight simulator test required, as was standard. So there's that little fact. Many of the quota hires failed so many checkrides that they were prohibited from upgrading to Captain but were allowed to keep their jobs due to Union protection. It's just a fact whether you like it or not. Now they say they're going to have 50% hires black or female and the hair on the back of my neck is standing up thinking about it. Because the percentage of qualified applicants that happen to be female or black are just not at 50%. Probably closer to 15 or 20%.They WILL lower the standards as needed to fill that quota. It already happened once.

@@matthewbrice6202 - That is really strange, because when my brother was stuck on a plane for hours after flying back from Italy they reimbursed him for his ticket and he got a voucher for a free flight for the future. When they return to the states they had a detour to a non-international airport so they wouldn’t let anybody off the plane. They spent over four hours or more on the plane before they finally flew them to Portland International. He then had to catch another plane home, took him hours and two planes to get back home. Depending on the airline, I know there are laws about being reimbursed when it’s the airlines fault. I don’t know how that works if it’s the fault of the pilot.

Hey, I retired very young after a great 20 year career as an airline pilot. “DEI” has been a pretty big part of the game since I started back in late 2001. We had a female Captain almost cartwheel a 737 down the runway, who NEVER should have been in a cockpit. She survived a long time before it caught up with her. Because she was female, instead of getting retrained, ordered to perform further training like many are required to do from time to time, and still end up thriving in the aviation space, she made it all about gender, and made all kinds of acquisitions. The irony is that many of our best are from the so called protected classes of people. They decided to push themselves harder to insure they aren’t considered a quota hire.

SCOTUS recently ruled against racial preferences for college admissions in SFFA v Harvard, so there is hope that such practices will come under much more scrutiny since they are all basically written to exclude straight White or Asian males no matter how qualified they are. This overturns nearly 50 years of precedent of the interpretation of the civil rights act and is a step toward the downfall of affirmative action on which DEI is based both for college admissions and employment opportunities. The only people who deserve a helping hand are the people who truly are disadvantaged such as the disabled or preferences that are earned such as veteran status or community service rather than one granted by birthright or a proclaimed sexual preference and/or identity.

Charlie is spot on. DEI and Affirmative Action hiring practices have to lower the standards of qualification, because to meet thresholds. That's not true. 1500 hrs min. Bad flight training and accident in Buffalo NY, because of that it changed that requirement. It's always been supply and demand industry, but never DEI even then. I met a White Delta Captain at Oshkosh that got hired with 350 hours during the time the supply for pilots was truly very low. It was not uncommon for the airlines to train people. One reason why it's such a volatile industry. They have been doing their best to change that, but with all the other challenges, and now DEI? Cause and effect.

DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives are not about lowering standards to hire individuals from underrepresented groups. Instead, they aim to create fair and equitable opportunities for all candidates and employees by addressing systemic barriers and biases that may affect hiring, promotion, and retention.

Retired on B-777-200 ER.... United Airlines is a joke and an embarrassment tp the United States of America. To be fair... I worked 30 years as captain for Continental airlines before we merged with United.

2:34 thats called splitting hairs. What the bloke was saying is his first impression, if all white people are hired on merit and 75% of black people are hired to fill a quota then any rational person would assume that a white pilot’s ability reaches a minimum standard of competency for the industry, but they’d question whether the black pilot was only hired to fill the quota and question how good he was and whether they should reconsider getting on the plane. But first impressions are just that, they can be wrong. This bloke is white, the fact he identifies as black is irrelevant, there is no way a casual observer can know this. So you trust that he was properly qualified, then find out too late you were wrong. How many people have bought a car from a “reputable dealer” only to find out it they’d been conned? I think the standard of living has gone down since the equity programs to put women into positions of power were enacted. A lot of under qualified women have been hired over the years and they have hire more women with substandard quals and they have made a lot of stupid decisions. A tech teacher i had shared the fact that none of us students would ever be hired by the tech. He worked in the electronics department, he got his job by having a teaching degree, an electronics degree, evidence of working in the electronics industry and demonstrating his knowledge and aptitude to the department head. He said that if he ever had to reapply for his job he wouldn’t get it, because the new department head was a woman with degrees in child care sociology, and so she only hires people who fit into what she understands, mostly more women. This was in 1998. I took my 18 year old son to tech or (TAFE as its now called) he wanted to do a welding course. The sign out the front said engineering department - welding, structural engineering, fabrication, CAD, etc. this is place. Went inside only to find that the sign was 30 years out of date and they don’t teach those subjects anymore, for those you have to either travel 2 hours out of town or go to a private company, and they wonder why there are no skilled workers anymore.

Humility. Our past may determine some of the ability to get the appropriate qualifications sometimes, but affirmative action gives a privilege that leads to those people who use it to have a much higher likelihood of not being PRACTICALLY qualified.

Do you know how pilots are trained? Briefly, pilots need a minimum of 1,500 hours to receive their ATP certificate. To achieve this, many pilots teach student pilots to accumulate the required flight hours. Given this, how is it possible that white student pilots taught by black pilots are considered more qualified for jobs than the black pilots who trained them?

This guy is NOT an airline pilot. He was an enlisted man in the Air Force which means it is very unlikely he has a 4 year degree. He said something like, "Let's say I'm a pilot". Furthermore, he identifies as black because the man who raised him is black. That's pretty much a stretch, isn't it? it is, in fact, true that DEI hiring, especially for things like Airline Pilots (I was one for 33 years) is dangerous. Not just potentially dangerous but actually dangerous. You would be horrified at how wide the range of flying skills in this industry actually is. The fact that it is all unionized doesn't help. And don't even ask about some foreign airlines where pilots are sometimes selected based on who their father is. The good news is that commercial passenger aviation is so unbelievably safe, that the statistics relating to fatal crashes are not very meaningful. People die in crashes so infrequently compared with the miles flown each year, that an extra crash each year or every other year will not make much of a difference................. except to the dead people on that particular airplane. They won't like it one bit. But commercial airline aviation will remain VERY safe even if the long term effect of DEI results in doubling of the number of fatal crashes. You gotta' give Charlie credit for being willing to talk to almost anyone, even complete nit wits.

He claims not to harbor any animosity toward Black individuals, yet his argument centers on the notion that standards are being lowered for them. Despite his vigorous critique targeting Black people, he does not similarly address issues faced by Asians, whom he perceives as more academically capable but still struggle to gain admission to prestigious institutions like Harvard. This selective focus suggests a possible underlying bias against Black people. DEI initiatives are designed to promote equity without lowering standards, contrary to the portrayal within his political party. Instead of fixating on these misconceptions, he should address the issue of white pilots involved in crashes due to human error, while acknowledging that such incidents involving Black pilots are considerably rarer. He sold his soul to White superiority and the devil is loving it. Pray for him.

Airline pilot example doesn't work in the real world. Airlines don't create pilots in the US system, they only qualify them on certain aircraft. A pilot who becomes an airline pilot already has an ATP rating (highest avaialable), the airline only trains them on a new aircraft and company procedures. Any pilot black or white gets weeded out by the FAA as pilot earns licenses and ratings. The FAA standards are black and white and all knowledge, skill and numerical based. They are also Federal regulations so there is no way for an examiner to be subjective about them. Also, airline pilots are rigerously tested to ensure they are upto FAA standards. Also, airlines don't hire "the best pilots", they simply hire pilots then qualify them to a certain standard. The system works more like a factory producing something with checks and balances along the the way. UA is going to have a pilot shortage because blacks and women don't gravitate (especially women) towards aviation. It's a carreer prefered by men similar to engineering. UA will simply have trouble finding pilots and have to violate their own "racist" policy due to reality. That's the problem with DEI, it's based on stupidity instaed of reality.
