Dear Duncan, please paint some old-style goff ork boys. I've seen the old GW videos you were in but wondered whether you'd use any of your own paints for the paint job. Also a video about highlighting metals would be good & protecting models with varnish. Thanks.

Another way to maintain volume for a model's shapes while still having a camo pattern is to use gel medium. After you've painted your cammo and done all your highlights, you mix a shading color with gel medium into a glaze so that it creates a very thin film. You then paint over your model as though the camo and non-camo areas were the same color. Generally, a complimentary color is best for this as it creates tension within the piece for the eye to follow, but you can also use this technique to create more cohesion. So for the examples in the video, you'd use an orange or magenta glaze for urban camo, purple or dark blue for desert camo, and likely a dark green or brown for the winter camo to give it that alpine look.

One of the tricks I've found for painting camouflage schemes on minis is to use a very dark under uniform to really outline the armor plates bearing the camo pattern. The thing is that you don't want the camouflage to actually work like camouflage. Unlike a real world soldier we actually want our minis to be seen and if your camouflage works too well it disrupts the detail of the model. Similarly you don't want to darken the exposed flats and brighten the crevasses as you would in real life, as that works completely against the highlighting we do to bring out the model details.

As someone who's never painted camo patterns before, this was an incredibly helpful introduction to techniques. I've been looking for snow camo specifically and I also liked the colour palette you chose a lot, though I'll probably swap the dark green for a greyish blue and add a lighter grey when I start building my Valhallan troops - hopefully that might give them a more icy look.

7:54- Well, the first one is definitely interesting. I’ve never seen that one before but I also thought you would have multiple color patches to make the camo!?! But I would like to know if I do add the 2 or 3 colors needed to make it camo do I do the white outline for all of them or just the first color? It’s all good either way, so far I’ll just stick with my way. But that might change in the next two!?!

Hey Duncan great work as always, kudos. I like the urban camo a lot. I think thematically it ties in great with the colour scheme of the Kriegsman you did in your DKoK tutorial. The two would look great next to each other in the same army, while clearly looking distinct enough from each other to be from different regiments.

30 seconds in and I love it already! In ROTC we had old army surplus camo sticks that you actually had to warm up with a candle before you smeared them across your face. If you were lucky, they left your skin attached to your skull. Getting that stuff off was even more fun... I love the desert camo. Interesting note, one of the best colors I've seen in real live for fading "High Desert" like in the sagebrush of Nevada and Idaho is faded denim and light gray. I haven't attempted to try that with a minature yet. Any advice would be appreciated.

The first one is definitely the best looking one you did. I wish I could get the answer to my question I asked about it in my first comment for this video. But I still like the way I just learned how to do a few months ago the best! I would write instructions on how to do mine because I haven’t seen anyone else do it yet!?! But it would definitely be long and if I’m going to take the time to do all of that then I would like to know at least one person wants to know it and is going to read it!?!

I know it's not the theme for this video but if you are thinking of adapting one of these schemes for vehicles always remember you don't need to be neat and tidy on a tank, in the real world (especially during the war) vehicle camo was field applied, in a rush, in less than ideal conditions, don't fall into the trap of making everything perfect, especially winter White wash, hall that was usually slapped on our of a bucket with a mop, or a rag tied to a stick if no mops were available

in the early 2000's I painted my Guard smurf ( Ultra Marine ) blue and did curved lines ( half circle ) in White , Black and Gray for my Urban camo with black boots and armor I painted a dot / circle then the used the Smurf blue to fill in dots except for 1 edge leaving the edge line . ( my hands where not trained like Duncan's ) This was all done on the sprues , 350 troops was no easy chore . Then built and covered any oops in Smurf blue

13:25- Um, yeah I guess…….. I would have at least added on of the mostly used camo style that people usually make for any war game. Jungle or (what I think would be number one) woodland camouflage! But I guess with how your doing it that pattern would probably be very difficult to fit everything. Don’t get me wrong and think I’m just insulting you and your work. The 2 you have shown so far have come out great! And honestly when it comes to a very detailed model that I’m super nervous but excited to paint, I come to your channel “first” to see if you have done it and have a tutorial for it! I didn’t do your color scheme or 100% step by step for it but your video of “how to paint the Silent King” is the only reason why mine is done and is by far the best paint job I have ever done!!! So thank you for that! Again!!! I’m pretty sure I already thanked you on that video!
