The DM of the first story deserves to have their partner's trust issues blow up at them and face the consequences of that. Having the AUDACITY to blame the players for the partner's meltdown, enabling her terrible behaviour because 'Muh wife'. The selfishness of the partner also sucks. Hope the DM and wife step on legos.

1st Story: Situations like this is why you should never, ever limit information to one character, especially when it's clear that the character is unwilling to give up information that'd allow the rest of the party to make progress with the rest of the game. I'm also reminded of the one story where the two centaurs made a game fizzle out by preventing the party from reading an important letter, which is unfortunate. 2nd Story: Being involved in theater does not give one the authority to almost kill another PC without consequences and if your character is someone who is unable to work with a party without being a danger to their health, then either you should make a new character or tone it down for the sake of party cohesion. Though him getting upset at getting banished, after admitting that he was trying to kill the Bard over a light punch, is by far the funniest part of this whole debacle. Don't blame OP for not playing with them anymore. 3rd Story: I don't really agree with Doge here; it shouldn't require a full on conversation for someone to understand why talking during someone else's turn or trying to steer the rest of the party away from the plot is a big no-no. Muting may not have been the most respectful option, but if the collective party is muting you for talking over them multiple times throughout the session, it's honestly indicative that the player was doing it by an excessive degree and talking it out was most likely not going to work anyways, especially if their response to this was to throw a fit. Story 4: OP and the newbies were honestly better off without El or Packrat there to ruin the game. Glad that they were able to salvage the situation, and it's always great when the trash takes itself out.

Disagree with the 3rd story. First tell the player "Yo it's not your turn be respectful." and is he doesn't listen then either kick or mute. Don't just jump to muting. TTRPGs are cooperative experiences and you need to tell people if they are misbehaving. Jumping to the extreme from the top is immature and just as disrespectful.
@asioca19922 жыл бұрын
@@MRCrazyKorn It's also disrespectful to continually talk over people and interrupt them while they're trying to roleplay or ask the GM a question. I doubt that muting was something done from the top but if the entire table decided to collectively put the guy on mute, it tells me that he had to have been doing it by a degree that made the actual session almost unplayable. That guy also jumped to the extreme by throwing a hissy fit once they realized that nobody was listening to them anymore either. If he could've easily asked why everyone had him muted in the general text channel or asked the group why they had him muted before flying off the handle like that and derailing the rest of the campaign.

If there's one thing worse than a person with main character syndrome, it's a person that can't open up or refuses to. I can get wanting to get your partner into the game but you have to double check with everyone first

First one: closed character secrets are not usually fun in an adventuring game. I have has some success with making the secrets open; ie players know the secret but characters do not so players can make decisions that lead towards the secret being revealed in game. Ie, the drow assasin can still act all twitch and stand offish to the dwarf bar keep, but the other players know the reason the drow is doing that is because that is his long lost son so they know, "that is an npc that we need to befriend."

Lol my first ever campaign and the DM had her husband playing some dwarf warrior. He always cursed his gods and egged them on to strike him down. So she struck him down and let him be reborn as a cleric with super special lightning powers. He also was the typical greedy dwarf stereotype and we had to force him to split gold evenly. Also since it was my first ever campaign, i was still understanding leveling and using my character sheet. He'd just take my character sheet and micromanage all of my stats instead of explaining anything to me. DM just let him do whatever he wanted even when it was clear the rest of the party was miserable due to his behavior. After repetitive 'get the shiny and return it to holy site in town' for several towns and the dwarf guy getting worse, I got 'really busy' and dipped from that campaign lol It was abandoned a few months later.

Thespian Rage Wow, Barbarian acted like a musclehead arsehole instead of… you know, being the cool muscular guy that enjoys physical bonding. Also a massive hypocrite. Now he can play by himself.

Story 1 This is the DM’s fault. He tried to make his wife a super special character and the expositor… but didn’t do jack shit with making sure the wife would actually give info (and improvise if she refused).

I did pull consequences in my horror campaign, several towns died due to the party because the Meta character kept quiet. They didn't stay quiet when the party pet died in the third city sacking~
@starbird39392 жыл бұрын
@@AmaryInkawult i don’t think that is fair to the party. The are still at the mercy of the META player and they are the ones that suffer for the META’s actions
@AmaryInkawult2 жыл бұрын
@@starbird3939 I call it the party pet, it was technically the Meta's since they asked to keep it. If the party had a collective party pet, it would have been the steam carriage they named "Carrie Anne" they stole to escape the second city. They've been lucky on their rolls with that thing.
@RiveroftheWither2 жыл бұрын
@@AmaryInkawult Or just don't have a meta PC and relegate that to an NPC to just avoid this whole issue. Dm's giving one player any kind of power or influence over the rest of the party, more often than not leaders to power tripping and control issues. So the only real solution is just don't do it rather than punishing the whole party for your mistake in giving one person the reins of the story progression.

I'll go against the grain a bit. First story the OP is the problem or possibly the DM. It's not a player's job to decide which information is revealed to the party to advance the plot or facilitate in game action. That's the DM's job. Now if this DM was refusing to provide necessary information to advance the storyline in an effective way he is to blame. I find it more likely though that the OP took what might be an interesting backstory and tried to use it as a strategy guide to optimize play.

This isn't a criticism or anything, just a silly observation: "May all of your rolls be a natural 20" would be a horrible curse for D&D games, 'cuz it would take the fun and excitement out of everything. Doing nothing but succeeding is boring. :D But I'm totally down for all my real-life skill checks and saves being natural 20s. That'd be rad.
