The craziest thing about the long rest that might have slipped by the players since the sessions are weeks apart: This was day 1 in the City. It took 3 sessions. They rode in that same day and spent the entire night in the sewers with a one hour break to take a bath. That's some Amethyst Academy Overtime.

Unless Scribbles killed them all, that's incompetence in part of the city watch. ... why do I bring this up? The party sunk a ship. Would the guards actually believe them about Ratlings and zombies? River might've been paying to get them out of jail if the guards showed up.

Most players forget so much across sessions. They have confirmed so many details-- the Duchess' origin in Drakkenheim; the total subjugation of Aschaffen (sp?); the fact that she has cultivated an entire reef of delerium; the ratlings' goal of seizing this delerium, etc... They gathered this info and more via their clever interrogations of Cookie and other NPCs. They remember none of it. River presents the info anew via her theories, but they still don't remember. She had to pointedly prompt them to recall the slime they'd recovered from the fish folk. 🤦🏻♂️😄 As the guy who remembers nearly everything, nearly all the time, it's always humorous to watch. This is another reason I like playing Wizards. Everyone is typically very accepting of the Wizard being the guy who recalls everything and has already sorted the pieces into a clear picture.

That one person who left a comment betting that the duchess was an Aboleth: They called me a madman.
@mal2ksc4 жыл бұрын
That sounds more like a job for a party of four and 9th level, once you factor in lair actions and minions. Not sure that would be a fair fight with three at 7th level. I used an aboleth as BBEG for a campaign arc, and the only reason they managed to win that battle while only losing one party member (she was revived five in-game minutes later, but it had a profound effect on the larger campaign because she was pregnant when she died -- and she ended up giving birth to a reincarnation of Vecna) was because of a random encounter way back at the beginning of the crawl -- I rolled "young silver dragon", and decided the most obvious reason was that she was out to prove herself, so was looking for a quest and wanted to join the party rather than fight them. I honestly didn't expect her to survive to the end, when I looked at the statbox, but that silver dragon ended up being the one that did ALL the puzzle elements of the final encounter, while everyone else kept the aboleth at bay. After the last puzzle element, the water drained out of the chamber and the aboleth had to choose between running away and flopping up on the deck to fight on dry deck. Since they don't really die, just get banished for a month or so, it chose to fight it out. Aboleth, two mind flayers, and four intellect devourers, in a chamber kept in perpetual magical darkness. There was a ring of decking around the outside of the chamber, and rope and plank bridges connecting that to a central tower. Inside the tower were two valves that had to be opened, and then (only _after_ the valves, or they'd be hosed) smash the tower's control structure to make sure it can't close the valves again. And all that with the mind flayers running interference. The intellect devourers fell to the ranger's arrows in a flash, but they were mostly there for that specific purpose -- to soak up ranger arrows instead of the mind flayers.

@@garynicolson5192 she is a committed Academy mage. Sebastian is blow with the wind vagrant with a troubled past, way more cliche and of course less skilled. How players can imagine a dragon and can’t see the reality that someone who works relentlessly with higher level characters is going to be more skilled than others is baffling. Hey, you do you though.
@garynicolson51923 жыл бұрын
@@psoren423 Because that's not how the progression of skill works in DnD. And the time frame of her going up 2 levels is like a week. Now gaining skill in magic cos you kill stuff for XP is also stupid but it's a core game feature. Why is the Amythest academy not full of max or near max level casters if the logic of how they progress is so obviously reasonable to you. I could train for the rest of my life in quantum physics....ill still not be einstein and it will take years if not decades. The amount of time in the real world to get a degree so your not considered completely useless at a subject is about 3 years......Martial Arts type has that same kind of investment. And 1 week to get 2 levels is not relentless, if it were shed be archmage in about 3 months. Sebastian is doing, River is learning. Trust me someone that puts there skills to the test is better than someone who sits in lectures all day. Also Sebastian is a Sorcerer.....they know literally nothing about magic theory nor do they ever need to. Its the point of the class...its written in the PHB somewhere

The rat warlock cast 5 spells (including haste on the ogre-rat) , then the 4 in the boat battle. :( maybe I am wrong but that would at least be a level 17 warlock, a bit steep for the level of the player characters. They didn't have a chance. But it was still fun to watch.

so the rat god and duchesses could possibly be working together in secret, maybe there a third humanoid race that the dusk wardens will come across like the gnolls. imaging Rudi becomes a vampire how more scary she would become.
@Klaital14 жыл бұрын
The rat god is Orcus, we already found that out in the dungeons of drakkenheim campaign. The duchess is most likely an aboleth. I find it very unlikely they would be working together.

I have already wanted to mention in the previous episode, too, that the valid target of Eldrich Blast must be a creature ... after sinking the ship, I begin to believe that this is an intentional restriction. You might want to read page 85 of Xanathar (Invalid spell targets), and apply that rule... or not. :) Keep up the entertainment!

Something very significant happens when the captain says, "Don't talk to my kids." It is well known the Amethyst Academy has full authority to remove the sons or daughters of people if they know magic. If the group interacts with the kids, would they find out they are both magic users who avoided being taken? It is shown how stingy the Academy can be, money and resource-wise. Is it possible the only reason this family is forced on this high risk mission, and possibly others for the Academy, is because the Academy bookkeepers know the truth, and keep the secret so that they can have a resource to utilize that costs them absolutely no money, based purely on blackmail, a threat that they can report them to their superiors at any time? They obviously haven't gotten the money they should have for proper upkeep of their vessel.
