It’s so frustrating when laws meant for livestock impact pet owners. Doctor Pol from the show The Incredible Dr. Pol talked about this in one of his episodes and he does surgery and gives antibiotics to ducks anyways even though it’s technically against the law for the sake of the pet and the owner.

That’s so true. The last time I saw a much loved bird was in the Vet’s office. We didn’t know it was terminal and he died in an oxygen tent instead of his favorite place under my chin. It still hurts years later.

I started to tear up for a duck who passed away, and whose owner is grieving from this loss. Man, I don't even know the duck, and I don't even know you. Sounds like there may have been a fluid buildup. One my cats had an enlarged heart which caused fluid buildup and on the night he died basically the same thing happened he couldn't breath, freaked out and had a heart attack and died. I feel your pain, it's hard to watch your pet die and I've had the unpleasant experience of watching a couple of my cats die over the years from horrible diseases. At least it was quick for her and you gave her a fighting chance. I had another cat who had hyperthyroidism and died of a stroke and that was not quick, I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone.

We just went through a similar situation with our dog, it was his pancreas. Animals aren’t able to communicate what the problem is, so when they get sick they can go downhill fast 😭 Try finding a country vet, they can help with poultry better than city pets that usually treat birds instead. I feel for you babe, it’s absolutely awful losing a loved member of the family 💜 🦆

I'm deeply sorry for your loss of such a beautiful duck. I've recently found your channel due to a short of Munchkin quacking her head off for ice water and shared that with my friends. But hearing that Dunkin had laid her head on your shoulder and opened her wings sounded like her thanking you for such a wonderful life and letting you know you were a loving person. There should be more veterinarians who specialize with different animals because some people do not have cats, dogs, hamsters ect as pets. Some want a pet duck, chicken, goose ect. Again, I'm deeply sorry for your loss of such a beautiful duck.

We had a hen who was heaving for air and had issues walking. Felt her belly and it felt like a water balloon. Unfortunately Ducks can have this same condition as well as Chickens. I have the feeling Dunkin' may've had water belly, a side effect of heart failure leading to liver failure. There's not much you can do for that, and it's best that she's resting now. May she rest easy.

I am so so sorry. you did everything you could for Dunkin. she knew she was loved and she loved you. that's a pretty good life for anyone. ps from what you're describing it really sounds like there was something super serious going on that there was just no way you could be aware of like cancer or maybe a tumor inside the liver. the liver is unfortunately a very tricky organ in all animals is what I have heard from vets.

It must've been terribly hard when she passed, but I'm grateful that she wasn't alone and that you were there with her so that you didn't find her later and wonder if there were something you could've done differently: there wasn't anything you could've done differently and you did your best for her and were only thinking of her best interests and how to minimize her suffering at the end. You should also ask the vet how much experience they have in waterfowl, as not all have the same amount. Finding one that that deals with farm animals more regularly than a typical vet can help.

I'm really sorry for your loss, I'm sure Dunkin was very happy besides you and was glad to share her last moments with you. Thank you for sharing to help others ❤ I had a similar experience with one of my lovebirds, she went from having respiratory problems after laying her first egg to not being able to move her legs at all... After many tests, we got her a treatment and she was much better over a month and a half - she could walk, perch, play and fly as playfully as always! And just when she was better... She had a stroke and died in my hands. I will never forget my little Momiji and I think this experience is similar to what happened to Dunkin. Dunkin very unusually left Donuts to visit and have a great time with you. She extremely trusted you and wouldn't wanted to miss her opportunity being with you. She really knew that hugging shows her love towards you. You're just as important to her as Donuts is. Maybe I shouldn't say it because its insensitive but I think its beautiful that Dunkin passed away in your arms. I sometimes think about my pet passing away while I'm sleeping or just not being there for them.

You got the honor of holding your friend while they passing away in your arms. It is the gift you can ever give them. I know the feeling all too well. I have been there for my two pitbulls, cat, pig and my beloved horse. When you get the privilege to be with them in their last moments it makes the passing easier for you and your friend. I am truly sorry for your loss.
