Those of us who remember the escalator incident from the '80s (and wacky randomness throughout his life) aren't surprised by this, but are aggravated that the stage crew would let a 67-year-old man leave a darkened stage with trip hazards after blinding him with lights. OSHA would like a word. Best wishes for a quick recovery with the knee that took the worst of it! Poor Simon.

It wasnt just the placement of the speaker but the bad timing when they dimmed the lights. Perhaps the technicians should have dimmed it after everyone left the stage. Hindsight is 20/20. At least Simon did not fall off the edge of the stage (e.g. Billie Eilish) or fall through an open trapdoor (e.g. Metallica), which has happened many times to other people, which those things are a potential trip to the hospital for braces, splints & casts. I think they should at least have brighter colored speakers on stage, or some other solution to differentiate between the color of stage objects & stage floor. The other thing is Simon & other artists have spotlights facing them, so this slowly blinds them during a multi-hour show, & so when the lights suddenly turn down, the eyes have a slower time adjusting back to normal. All you see is a lot of white noise in the eyesight. Not only that, but Simon is age 65 ! That is not a good time to have a bad trip, heh. The funny part is that when he tripped, the background music became gloomy. 10/24/24
