To add to the first index of your list you can use l.addFirst(“ccc”); Another way is to use l.add(0, “ccc”); This second one specify the zeroth index as the point to insert or add a value to the list. You can use it to add to any other index or position in the list like l.add(3, “ccc”); The first one by default won’t add to any other index except the zeroth index.

If i want to insert an element at middle position of LinkedList how can it be faster than ArrayList. Because LinkedList has to traverse till middle which is slow operation for LinkedList. same for deletion ?
@jvsnyc4 жыл бұрын
You can use a list iterator to go thru the list only once, casually adding and deleting nodes as you go thru. If you use the indexes, linked list will waste all its time in the way you described, of course.
@MrGvamsikrishna98 жыл бұрын
Hi Sir, I have a question: If identifying an object at particular index is very slow at LinkedList, How could it be faster for insertion/deletion. Because it has to go all the way of nodes for identifying the object to be removed or to be added there..??
@mysteriousmask60367 жыл бұрын
Though LinkedList have to go each node for insertion or deletion of elements at middle, but it only replaces pointers of nodes where as arraylist need (arraylist size-1) shifting which causes performance degradation compare toLinkedList
@niteendhule7455 жыл бұрын
Hello Vamsi, the biggest headache of ArrayList in insertion at any particular place is of Shifting of remaining object which takes a lot of efforts other than searching and then just changing the pointer in LinkedList. Think of bugger picture , If we want to add or delete the record of AADHHAR Card details in UIDIA of India. Now think if we used ArrayList then shifting of other crores of records. If we used Linked List then we might take time to search the item at the specified index but we will get rid of shifting operation and we not needed to use any other large size data structure in case of ArrayList.
@ernavneetkverma7 жыл бұрын
How linked list is best for insertion in middle? I understand on insertion in somewhere in middle of a linked list there would not be shifting of remaining elements like in the arraylist but again to reach to that element the iteration needs to be done from 1st element to 2nd element, to 3rd and so on, unless we reach the middle element where we need to insert, right? or is it something i am missing here?
@jvsnyc4 жыл бұрын
Nobody ever answered. If you had an iterator going thru and adding at specific places you could benefit from it. That is, you might have a case where you add many of them at different places going thru your LinkedList only once.

if default size of any arralist is 10 then while printing the arraylist.size() after the declaration of array, why it prints 0 ...since default size is 10 then it should print 10 right?
@praveenchauhan0097 жыл бұрын
size() prints the number of elements in ArrayList. when you have declared 10 it means maximum 10 element would be added before it grows again
@sadbhavanabharadwaj79587 жыл бұрын
10 is the initial capacity n nt size.....which means dat d max no. of elements dat can be inserted is 10..if d no. of elements increases by 10 den a new ArrayList will b created with size equal to (current_size*3/2) +1....n d already existing elements will b copied to d newly formed ArrayList..while the previous object of ArrayList is ready for garbage collection

@satyanagajyothi45147 жыл бұрын
list interface didnt specified explicitly about maximum capacity.. but u can insert till u ran out of memory i guess..
@sujeetkumar-mm7co4 жыл бұрын
Arraylist take integer as the argument, so the maximum capacity is 2147483648, but your memory should support this range at the runtime

hi sir, i attended in one of the java interview in that they asked to me Implement Array list? I wrote all the program what ever you discussed in video.....But they said to me including along with this also implement methods which are present in array list?....Is it provided in any video sir?????
@sujeetkumar-mm7co4 жыл бұрын
Bro arraylist is a class not interface to implement it.
@jitenderraghuvanshi85253 жыл бұрын
Maybe you told the interviewer that you are the "King of Collections" :D. Anyway, maybe he was checking if you know about the methods of ArrayList or not. You can always check the source code of any class online. For example, trimToSize() method is present in the ArrayList but not in the List interface. You can use this method to trim the capacity of the ArrayList to the current size of the elements. Suppose, you add four elements to a list. The initial capacity will be 10. But if you call trimToSize() on that list, capacity will be updated to 4.
