I can't recommend these enough. I've done a full lift/suspension upgrade, armor and a whole bunch of other mods and these may be my favorite upgrade. Going slow on the rocky trails of Colorado, I would bottom out even with the upgraded suspension. Once I installed these, the bottom-outs were so much less annoying. I used to grit my teeth and wait for my spine to crunch when the stock bumpstops hit. Not anymore. I can't speak to how these would do in high-speed off-roading but I don't think that's what they're for. Only problem I had was during the install I found my stock bump bolts were rounded and a PITA to remove. Other than that it was a breeze. 10/10

I'm about to pull the trigger on these bumpstops, you've got me convinced! Would this have any negative effect on the 4runner towing characteristics? I plan on replacing the whole suspension system on the 2002 4runner (To include OME 891 Coils in the rear), which should give me an overall 2.5 - 3 inches lift. Thanks for you all you do Timmy!

No, this wouldn't affect anything with the towing. It just gives you a less harsh feeling when the suspension compresses enough to hit the bump stop.

Your springs are tired or you have too much weight stored in the cargo area. If you are sitting low with no weight in the back, you need new springs. If you plan on carrying extra weight back there pretty regularly, aftermarket springs would be a good idea. OME 906 springs can handle more weight and will give you a 2 inch lift in the rear. This will give you a positive rake (rear higher than the front), but newer 4runners and Tacomas are set up exactly this way so when you load down with gear, you aren't sagging in the rear.

You don't necessarily need those bump stops in the springs as long as you have the other bump stops that attach to the frame and will stop the up-travel of the rear axle before the shock bottoms out. If you really want them, you could grab some off a wrecked rig at a PicknPull yard or you could try to buy a used pair from someone. I know a guy, Josh Young, who parts out 4runners in Washington and he probably has a set he can sell you. Here's a link to his Facebook page. So basically the other front oem bumpstop will no longer have functionality right?
@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 5 жыл бұрын
No, it still has functionality. The Durobump front bump stop is taller but is built from a progressively stiff rubber that gets firmer as it compresses down. When the lower control arm cycles up and down, the Durobump bump stop works as a shock absorber at first and then reaches maximum compression about the same time the front OEM bump stop makes contact with the frame. So, the front OEM bump stop is still working to limit upward travel of the LCA.

It's not uncommon to have some oil in the area of the plenums due to the way PCV valve ventilates crankcase pressure into the upper plenum right near the throttle body. I got the 4.25 for the rear on my 16 Tacoma with a leveling kit. The bumpstop is real close to the frame. I can feel it hit everytime I hit a small bump. Is it supposed to do that? I'm thinking about downgrading to 3.5 or back to stock? What do you think?
@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 4 жыл бұрын
They shouldn't be hitting all the time. You should go with the shorter bumpstops. A leveling kit does nothing to the rear suspension since these Tacomas come from the factory with a positive rake (rear higher than the front). You probably got some type of spring spacer that brought up the front height to match the rear height so nothing changed in the rear. I don't know if you realize this, but Toyota gives their trucks and SUVs a positive rake so your rear end won't be sagging lower than the front when you load down with gear or whatever in truck bed or cargo area.

@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 5 жыл бұрын
The Durobumps can help with on road performance because these bumpstops are more pliable with better dampening than OEM or other aftermarket suppliers. But, if you're suspension is stiff because of the suspension set-up you chose, I don't think you'll experience an appreciable difference. The bumpstops come into play mostly at the extremes of your front end and rear end travel. When driving on the road, you're usually not hitting big enough bumps to be maximizing your suspension travel but you sometimes will hit bigger bumps on the road and that's when you'll notice the difference with the Durobumps.
