Angry Beavers was my favorite cartoon as a kid. I was born in 1991 so about the perfect age to enjoy it. Although I have fond memories of watching it as a kid, it is almost too hard to watch now that I am older just due to the nature of me missing those times. I guess reminiscing can make one feel like that. I guess it is sad because those times are over. I always wished the creators could know how much of an impact these shows had on the kids watching them. Thank you for the video and thank you to the creators.

I don’t think the “things aren’t always what they seem” lesson is a very good one in the context of the episode “Gift Hoarse.” Prior to the delivery of the monster truck, there was no reason to believe the parents hadn’t intended to hurt Daggett by giving Norbert an absurdly more extravagant gift, because no half-decent parent would ever treat their kids that differently from one another, especially not twins. Such extreme disparity in gift giving would have to come from spite or some sort of malice, as it would undoubtedly make someone feel inadequate or subpar, and no one deserves to feel that way. Blatant favoritism is, by all means, a form of emotional abuse. Even if the parents were super dumb and just made a very bad judgment call when deciding on those gifts, which is unlikely, it would still count as mistreatment, if not still abuse. If a situation strongly points toward the possibility of abuse, the suspects should not be given the benefit of the doubt before at least being investigated. I would argue that even in cases of ambiguous evidence, one should assume the worst when considering reporting such a serious crime. In this case, there should have been no question that Daggett was being emotionally abused by his parents, since there was no way Daggett and Norbert could have anticipated the delivery of the monster truck. Although sabotaging Norbert’s train set was not the right course of action, Daggett had every right to feel the way he did, especially considering his historically lopsided relationship with Norbert. Judging by what we have seen in the show, Daggett had probably been overshadowed by Norbert his whole life, and his parents must have been the only ones who saw him when he was growing up. Seeing the only two people who ever really loved him suddenly give him a blatantly worse present than his widely respected, consistently fortunate, genetically blessed, and not to mention extremely condescending older twin must have been excruciating for Daggett. I wasn’t shocked at all when he acted irrationally.
@bradleyhires3940 Жыл бұрын
I didn’t even mention the fact that Norbert’s treatment of Daggett throughout the series was abusive. Norbert rarely gave Daggett any emotional support or showed any concern for his wellbeing, even when he clearly needed it in episodes like “Beach Beavers a Go-Go,” “Go Beavers!,” “Dag for Night,” Bummer of Love,” and “A Dam Too Far.” He also liked to trick him into doing all the work or even injuring himself like in “I Dare You,” “Pond Scum,” “Fakin’ It,” “Mission to the Big Hot Thingy,” “Chocolate up to Experience,” “Dag’s List,” “Damnesia,” and more. Despite taking advantage of Daggett, Norbert would get angry at him for being clumsy, which was completely unjustified. Although most of these took place after “Gift Hoarse,” it’s safe to assume that Norbert was doing that crap way before “Born to Be Beavers,” because he started that measuring day thing years before the events of the that episode. Constantly being shafted by the universe while having to watch as his lazy and downright narcissistic brother had so much success and good fortune all the time had to have hurt Daggett a lot as well, understandably so.

a fine five picks, I personally would have included Legend of Kid Friendly; where the beavers go to a westworld-esk wild west theme park to meet their hero, Kid Friendly, who smiles people to death... some of the best music in the show, as well as a not so subtle jab at the "appropriate for kids" politicians of that era. Second, I would have included Lumberjack's Delight, where the beavers have to repel an invasion by lumberjacks over who is allowed to fell trees in the area. I find myself singing the lumberjack tune often "we get up with the sun and cut down trees, with a belly full of biscuits and a lot of butter if you please"..... add in the sillyness of the magic seven ball and Norb pretending to be a lumberjack...... truly the best episode in my view.

If you lived through your youth when I did, in the 70s basically, you would see the homages to many of the cartoons of that time frame. Daggy always getting screwed on all his setups was reminiscent of the Road Runner's Wile E. Coyote. Some of the Foley artist sound effects are directly taken from Warner Bros cartoons of the 70s, like the one with the head shake, that quick wah, wah, wah, wah, wah. I know, the old joke, how did that go again? The more adult than child level humor, like the "I guess they don't understand how charity works", when one of them points out they could just give the nuts out of the candy bar one of them was selling directly to the squirrels for charity, rather than selling them and giving some almost insignificant percentage of the sales to buy nuts for the squirrels...more like Rocky and Bullwinkle type humor. Their Fractured Fairy tales were always the good type of groan inducing material. And on and on. I remember watching Angry Beavers and saying "Hey, that's so and so from whichever cartoon". Either the AB animators lived through that time, or watched them, and I expect more the lived through them, as they apparently knew the 70s shtick by heart, as did many many kids of the time. If you didn't live through it you have to realize it was a completely different time. Cartoons were available ONLY when they were broadcast, which was almost exclusively Saturday mornings, about 9A-12P IIRC, and in my house at the time the channel choices were ch6 and 9. Channel two came in, but not that great, even with our directional 'click click click' antenna...anyone who had one knows exactly what I'm talking about. And you had to go out occasionally when the known best channel reception got pointing wrong (two was dead North), and look at the antenna position and put the thing in a mode where you could move the inside directional indicator without moving the antenna to get them back realigned. This was important because you set the direction and went and sat down for the possibly 30 second time it took to reorient. This was state of the art foreskin of tech stuff at the time, both the high gain directional antenna and the directional rotor. You HAD to watch when they were broadcast because there weren't even VCRs available then. Similar to: We had to walk in the snow to school, uphill, both ways. I lived in Fl, so no snow, but my parents were from New England, Conn, Mass, and Maine over their childhoods, hence the snow part. I haven't gotten to the end of your vid yet so I don't know if you mention it, but for die hard AB fans, if you haven't heard it, there was an episode called Bye Bye Beavers written and voiced where the animators are bitching about being let go so the cartoon could be syndicated (rerun) ad infinitum with no continued employment (and apparent fun and creative release) for the animators. Typical corporate greed at the expense of fans. For the most part corporations literally suck, MHO. IIRC they made have made this 'pro bono'. Farscape, Family Guy, Simpsons, and even Phineas and Ferb were some other later cartoon favorites. I'm sure I'm missing a couple. My wife said she wasn't thrilled about the kids, when younger, watching Angry Beavers and I said are you kidding, it's great. When she and I watched the series later on Netflix, she wholeheartedly agreed, after asking if I was really going to watch this, meaning she wasn't initially thrilled about the idea. A few shows in she very much changed her mind and when I knew the best lines were coming I'd look over surreptitiously to see her smiling ear to ear. Ah, the sweet smell of success (and de agony of de feet). She's not so much a belly laugher. A true 'time frame' classic. I highly recommend it for any cartoon loving adults. Give it a couple of episodes because it really ramps up early on, and some of the later episodes, like truckee, the stump series, and the light lady are just plain hilarious. You'll definitely recognize the Barry Bear voice if you are of my advance age, compared to most watching this vid, I expect, too...and what a voice! I never would have seen the Adult Swim stuff if my kids didn't watch it, as we had them about ten years later than normal, which was a great call, as we were older and a bit wiser to be able to raise them more effectively, we think. I recommend that, as well, although it seems to be much more common now, with the current corp greed (again) trends toward two parents working, and for about the inflation adjusted equivalent of one before. And the trend toward having to take a decade to pay back absurd education loans, even for true professions, like engineering, science, law, medicine, etc. The rich get richer and the 'poor', or worse poor, get poorer. THAT needs to end, too, but I have no clue how to do it, other than lynching them, which could prove eminently satisfying. It's not like they can even use all that money, unless they do, like Musk, to try to provide tech that actually might help solve a few serious issues, like the environment with large scale sales of practical, and dare I say it, quite enjoyable electric cars, heading for self drivers so people can serve their masters while commuting. There is always a down side to even the best of intentions. And it has always been thus. Guys like Bezos, the Koch bros., and that sorry ass family that made billions (IIRC) selling barbiturates they KNEW were hopelessly addictive BEFORE they put them on the market, are RIPE for the lynching. And that family got a tiny tap on the wrist that would amount to a $0.10 'fine' to the average person. It's all a well thought out scam. That got a bit tangent, sorry.

Up All Night is definitely one of my favorite episodes. When they find out the clock was broken the whole time and they find themselves in the future: Dag! How long HAVE WE BEEN AWAKE!??

What about that episode they try to order a streetsweeper with box tops. I'll never forget that one.

I think my favorite episode was everyone telling a story (almost like who's line this is) but Treeflower's story was based on anime. All the stories stuck out and varied by their friends.

I haven't watched The Angry Beavers in a long time, but do they always argue at the end of every episode?
