We all hate putting those bags on... I was laughing sympathetically as I watched you. One word... Magnet! It REALLY helps. Well thought out build.

how many magnetts? and it keeps an airtight seal?

I put a Thien baffle on a trash can pre your setup and hardly any chips go into the plastic bag and minimum fine dust goes to the filter. I modified the layout and it takes only another 6 inches of extra space. Well worth considering since you have the necessary skills already. Anyway, good to see you trying different ways. Just stumbled on your video, looking forward to watch a few more.

Glad it worked out. Post a link to some pictures if you can; I'd be interested to see the build.

Try looking at the jet vortex dust collector which uses a vortex cone, (wok would do the same job), under the plenum. Hopefully this would help to eliminate your issues.
@kevinhoward98807 жыл бұрын
The tube between the bag and filter is referred to as a plenum, (I hope I spelled that correctly). You're showing some great ideas for a home shop duct collector. I'll be starting mine next week. I really like the connection plates at the top of the trash can.

So in another HF vid (there are lots!) they had taken a gamma seal lid, cut a hole in it, and mounted it to the bottom with silicone and screws. Then the fine dust can be emptied really easily after cleaning the filter with the compressed air. No more plastic bags! :)

I thought about trying something like that, maybe by attaching a bucket to the bottom of the bag with the lid to seal it. Who made the other video?

The metal part between the bag and filter is designed to spin the air. Really as a second stage you want the air shooting in the top of the filterstraight down the middle with a small removable bag or bucket you empty after you shut down the system and or clean the filter.

Magnets to hold the bag inplace

if you are getting large pieces past the separator and into the bag that they can cut or puncture the bag, you may need to redesign the separator. It sounds that one of 2 options could help. 1) make the diameter larger. 2) Make it tall enough so that the intake port can be placed at the top and the outlet pipe can protrude an inch or two past the intake port. Of course, this will only work if your separator is the “top hat” design. If your separator is built into the trash can, you might consider a “top hat” design with thein baffle

Good ideas. It hasn't been an issue since I added the rope baffle on the bag, and I normally don't get a lot of chips in the bag unless there's a high volume coming though the hose, or I overfill the trash can. Either way, I think you're right that some improvements could be made.

Magnets on the bag when you are trying to put it back on.... lol

You mentioned small holes the clear plastic bag, I wonder if you taped those up would that prevent airflow into bag thus preventing the vortex and fine dust being pulled into the filter? I have a very similar setup and I can not recall seeing a vortex in the clear bag. I do have a hp blower with a straight 6 inch pipe into a Supper Dust Deputy.

Good question; I had to think about that one for a minute. You can see how the air enters the chamber from the impeller/motor side in this clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWK8Z2lupZWlh8U. The baffle-like design is probably intended to push the air down away from the filter, but it results in a lot of circular air movement in the bag. I've still been having good luck with the black bags and rope baffle though, so I probably won't go back to the overpriced clear ones anytime soon.

I remember when working for the USFS about a hundred years ago, we used clear thick trash can liners. Maybe a janitorial supply would have them.

I hope you have figured this out by now, but the vortex in the bag is normal. Tying it up like that restricts airflow and I don't think it is a good idea. You need to use the full bag, and empty the dust/chips when the bag is no more than half full. You will notice a lot less suction if bag is full. The holes in the bag are probably due to the quality that HF is supplying. Buy some decent bags from another outlet. I have been using my bags for 2 years and still do not have a hole. It doesn't matter if some dust blows back up, it will settle again, and you are cleaning the filter as well.

I've been using black 3-mil contractor bags for the past four years, and I usually just replace the bag whenever I blow out the filter. You got me curious about the secondary baffle, since I still tie the bag off. It would be easy enough to test air flow with and without using the same approach I used here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZuufXyXbtusn5Y.

I'm curious if you have improved it since originally made. After seeing several peoples ideas, looks like making a Thien Baffle would help in the dust being stirred up to much.Thoughts?
@TheSnekkerShow5 жыл бұрын
I haven't changed the design any and it's been working fine, but I've been wondering if maybe a big cardboard X inside the bag might solve the problem even better. I might try that next time I change bags, although I'm stuck with one arm in a sling right now so it might be a while.

What if you make a slurf of that second bag filter. Cut it in length half of the plastic bag. Would that lower the intake. nut sure it will fill up properlu though.
@RomboutVersluijs5 жыл бұрын
Ow i didnt check the complete video when i commented. You had the same idea with that black piece hahaha
@RomboutVersluijs5 жыл бұрын
PS i would make that of that cotton or fabric bag and make it permanent. That way you dont need fuzz around each time with the tape. Prehaps use some bigass elastic rops with hocks on the end to make a quick release thing.
