One of prime reasons Fallout 1 and 2 are still in our hearts is Lore. Stories, wild encounters, crazy twists of events, sex drugs guns. And not to forget karma system and good vs evil playthrough. Without it any Post Apocaliptic game seems bleak. Wasteland 2 Directors Cut was a good one. Fallout New Vegas had a lot to offer. This is seems just like many other browser MMO that made in post apocalypses style.

personally, I prefer the Xcom turn based formula over real time, but this does look interesting. would be nice if we got turn-based fallout again, maybe using the Fallout: Tactics title except with an actual story to go with the open world, and while I do enjoy the modern fallouts in spite of their lackluster and basic stories, (I'm a monster I know) I envision this as a sort of hybrid of XCOM 2 and Wasteland 2, with real-time movement when not in combat, but the turn-based combat starts up when you encounter enemies or turn it on yourself (to prepare an ambush) perhaps with a sort of "initiative roll" system or selecting all your targets or tactical choices at the same time as your enemy so you don't end up with XCOM's volley fire problem.

The battle system reminds me of a scifi book I was reading today. The antagonists are obsessed with following the SOP of the fleet they used to belong to. For missiles SOP is to launch whenever there is a 75 percent chance of hitting unless you are down to one missile (The ship type in question only has a single launcher, and carries four missiles when fully loaded). So the protagonist has his crew calculate when they will reach the 75 percent hit chance then program's the ship's computer to evade in the split second gap between hitting that probability and the missile launch being detected (The lag is caused by how long it takes light to travel between the two ships at the distance involved) As for Fallout Tactics I never understood the hate. Sure it was different then Fallout 1 or 2 but it was a spinoff game so it was never supposed to be the same, and no one ever claimed it was Fallout 3 so there was no reason to expect it to play just like the main series games. That would be like someone hating Heroes of Might and Magic I just because it didn't play like Might and Magic I through V. Of course it helps that I love the X-Com and Jagged Alliance franchises so I was overjoyed at the thought of a Fallout game with similar gameplay.

Wow, this sounds like literally everything I would dislike about a Fallout Tactics successor. I loved FT because it had a solid overarching story that gave everything you do weight, some extremely cool mission like the Macomb mission where you have to escort a hummer through a hostile city where civilians toss stones at you - and you can make a moral choice in whether you shoot back (which really fits with the grey morality of Fallout universe and reminds me of real military actions against civilians in the real world like the Kent State massacre), and it had great deep turn-based combat that could easily equal Jagged Alliance and XCom in depth, with a really good and intuitive implementation of stealth (which other tactical games often couldn't do well...). I don't actually know literally anyone who used the real-time option. Oh, and speaking of Hummer, it was one of few tactical games that actually allowed you to drive military vehicles - you could even get your own tank! So yeah, literally all of that sounds missing and nothing about this sounds appealing. Hard pass.

Like Fallout Tactics, a big sell to me with this game is that you can actually play with a functional vehicle. I'm always surprised that a series built so heavily on the aesthetic of Mad Max has avoided wheeled vehicles like the plague, and that's compounded by the fact that its also got that 50s style with so many classic vehicles to take inspiration from.
@Indigo_Gaming5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think doing a realistic vehicle in tactical games is very tricky, that's why you don't see it much. I remember Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate did back in the day, but not many others did.
@UtushoReiuji5 жыл бұрын
It's a bit complex to handle in a tabletop RPG, but I've found that a lot of the best encounters I've done have involved the use of vehicles, particularly in chases. I feel like something that'd be particularly difficult when doing a chase like that in a game is that you'd need either a very large map or something where that generates terrain/cityscape as a chase goes on.

The reason why Fallout: Tactics is not as great as any other Fallout game is because the game has horrendous control while it features real time strategy combat; where the control is matter the most. No movement way point, no command queneing(only for vehicles), select, move, attack shares the same input; left mouse, and there's a delay between when you order a command, and an unit executes the command. The control in FOT is godawful, and that is the reason why it only remained as 'an OK-ish game' By looking at the game footage you have provided, I don't believe Dustwind has any better control system than FOT, unfortunately. And it doesn't look like it has a turn based combat system that you can switch on whenever you want, OR any form of pause during gameplay for better microing; which are the things that even FOT has. For this reason, I'm not interested into this game, nor I believe the term _"spiritual successor you should be playing"_ is suitable for Dustwind.
