The concept at 5:48 actually looks strikingly similar to what we got with the 360. The contoller and the other peripherals are ridiculous, but the console itself has that glowing green power button and the curves and angles on it, even down to how xbox is printed on the front.

I’m surprised no one has ever mentioned back during the 360 era Microsoft had tiny little hand held games put into cereal boxes. Like it would only be one bare bone game and you could collect more. I remember it vaguely as I was probably like 6-8 years old. Wish I kept mine, I think it may have been a snowboarding game.

Fun fact: sega did end up making/collabing with Microsoft to build a console of sorts. the Sega Chihiro is a console made exclusively to be used in arcade cabinets based on the og xbox

@@boubayaga_man i don’t i’ve always been on the side of external batteries because batteries wear down and get shitty over time that’s just how they work. To me it felt like xbox gave me more life outta my controllers because once a battery starts to feel like it’s dying too fast I get another one and the cycle repeats. My ps4 controller absolutely blows it lasts maybe 3-4 hours then i gotta recharge with a wire attached instead of just grabbing a new battery pack.

As a child, I thought the "Xbox 360" name was the perfect choice. In my mind, it meant the console was well rounded; I'd have all my favorite kinds of games on the thing, and to be fair I had just that. My Xbox games, my 360 shooters, And games like Dead Rising.

I think another thing that may have fueled rumors of Xbox and Sega joining forces to make a new Sega console was the fact that Sega used Xbox hardware for their Chihiro arcade machines, meaning they already had an established hardware partnership lasting for several years until they switched to PC hardware for their cabinets

According to Helena Douglas in Dead Or Alive Xtreme 2 there’s only 5 prototype Xbox’s in the world. Normally this wouldn’t hold water, but back then Team Ninja and especially Tomonobu Itagaki would have this insider knowledge.

You're theory of Xbox using sidewinder as the official controller makes sense, if you think about it. Sidewinder controllers had 6 face buttons and 2 triggers, when the Xbox was first shown, all the games were being played with a 6 face button sidewinder controller. Guess how many face button the Duke had....6 XBYA and the black and white buttons. To be honest I feel like the Duke was just a reshashed sidewinder, and Microsoft had a sidewinder controller similar in design to the Duke. 3:38

I do belive the 720 naming scheme even if was probaly used for mostly an term or whatever was intended used for Xbox one as make sense next step further than 360 degrees. but it got changed to avoid it becoming too much like atari like those numerial console back then. so who knows really if they kept towards to series x and s would gone totaly diferent.

I always heard it was called the Xbox 360 because of the Playstation 3 but also the Nintendo Revolution (like a 360 degree turn), since the Wii was still only known by its development codename at the time.

I know it would have been hard then and maybe now but it would have been cool to see something kind the actual x Xbox like the prototypes shown. I know the general box style (no pun intended) is the best and most efficient way to make consoles but it would be fun to see a company to get creative, tho I'm sure it'll be much more expensive to sell.

What is the problem with the controllers having a batteries option? You can get a rechargable battery or use the batteries, having them as option is good, so I don't get what's the problem, it's like people didn't know Xbox has rechargable stuff like any controller

Part of the reason some of the concepts look bizarre but still in the realms of possibility is that people started following the many patents, trademarks & copyrighted designs that the big tech companies would lodge each year. Microsoft, Apple, Sony & Nintendo were the big ones, and what journalists & fans would do is make mock-ups based on the registered designs and/or descriptions.... but it was always speculation because Microsoft might register half a dozen different console case designs for example, but only refine & manufacture one of them for the end product. And I actually have a Zune - I bought it for my mother as a small mp3 player when she was in the hospital. It was a cheap alternative to the iPods that I had, and easier to just drag & drop ripped CDs onto. The Zune was never really a big competitor for the iPod because it just did the same thing that hundreds of other generic mp3 players that were coming out of the Asian market were doing... but they cost a fraction of the price without the big tech brand name attached. iPods were the first revolutionary Apple product that really ignited the 'Apple fanboy/girl' phenomenon, so a lot of the draw was the design & integration with iTunes... Microsoft had no hope of capturing that market.

Wireless charging is a dumb, slow novelty. Also, Xbox controllers have HAD their own rechargable battery packs since the 360 in addition to the option to use AA batteries. And why would you want the option to use AA batteries taken away?
