I feel like dylan would reallyyyy like season two due to its shift of tone. Season one is all fun, lighthearted, and summer love and then season two takes a shift where its more serious and dramatic. I think the lightly cringy vibe is perfect…it’s a show about the shift from being a teenager to becoming an adult…that’s the time when a lot of cringy things happen and a lot of things are kind of weird but cute or sweet at the same time and it’s an emotional phase combined with a bit of carelessness…so I think even with or maybe just because of this cringyness the series fits the vibe perfectly

The show actually tackles the classism and racism Belly's brother is subjected to in the episodes in-between. He works at the country club and becomes the waiter for the rich old guys' poker room. I don't want to go much into detail if you ever want to watch it later on. It's just a really impactful scene/sub-plot.

What I love about this series is that it deals with mature issues, like drinking, sex, growing up, divorce, death, it's still really youthful. It really feels like through the of Belly. I by no means think Jere is perfect, but (so far on the show, I don’t care about the book) he’s been very straight forward and very genuine about his feelings. Belly has never had to second guess his feelings like she does with Conrad. He can’t communicate properly but expects people to understand what he’s feeling, and that, for me is what makes him toxic. I don’t think Jere is toxic.

yes! after seeing him react to the trailer of it in a recent ooga booga video, i've been wanting him to watch it even more because i just know he’d appreciate the sheer chaos and artistry of it. from a selfish viewers pov though, i do want some kinda commentary/beer n' a movie esque video for it. i think it’d be fun to not only see him enjoying something for once, but also listen to him go on a deep dive about all the outstanding elements of this film. messages, cinematography, the budget (since he thought it was on the higher end in the trailer review video), the simply mental creativity and inspiration behind it etc. long story short, he'd enjoy it. we'd all enjoy it. good content for everyone.

I feel almost embarrassed telling my friends I watch this show because yes I love silly girly things- which it obviously is- but it’s also really well done for what it is like the production value is crazy ik they got that amazon budget asf. Sadly many people don’t recognize that though and assume it’s just another After or My Life With The Walter Boys or whatever. IMO the writing is pretty good most of the time and realistic to the teenage experience (with some obvious fantasy and mild cringe, but that’s a given.)

my parents bought a beach house the year I was born. growing up I went there every single year and im looking forward to it all year long, this show and the books give me this specific feeling I have when im there, the feeling of growing up in a certain place, of going back there in different stages of my life and realizing how different I am from the last year and how much in my life has changed. it also captures very well the feeling of driving there every year and the feeling when the summer is ending. my favorite thing is that she says "my whole life was measured in summers" and I also have a mid summer birsthday that we celebrate on the beach house and I just love it so much

Y’all I watched the OC a while back after hearing Dylan mention it a couple of times (also wasn’t feeling any other show tbh) and I will say this one thing: the OC is the blueprint for teen dramas of the 2000s to now. The formula they created from the theme song to the characters to the plot lines literally made the teen drama genre what it is today 😩 Edit: Speaking of the OC (2003) debutante scene, it was also similarly recreated in the Vampire Diaries season 1 (2009) during the Miss Mystic Falls town pageant when Stefan is nowhere to be seen because he’s become hooked on human blood again so Damon steps in for him to dance with Elena. After the dance is over, they find Stefan feeding on some poor innocent girl and Damon fights him off but Stefan runs away into the woods. It was ALSO in Gossip Girl season 1 (2007), like almost exactly happening the same way as the OC and Summer I Turned Pretty, but with a “Cotillion” ball and the fight ensues when Nate punches Serena’s escort, Carter Baizen, bc Chuck Bass lied and told his bestie Nate that Carter and Blair slept together to cover up the fact that it was actually Chuck and Blair who slept together in the back of a limo in a previous episode💀 goes to show you that the OC really crawled so these shows could walk
