I think maybe he does die later in the book cause he has cancer??? It's been over a decade since I've read them so forgive me if I didn't recall it all correctly.

This all causes for different contracts for Netflix in different countries, which could explain why the selection of movies/shows that aren’t Netflix originals is different in every single country.
