My "intervention" was NOT developed in the educational system. At the age 10, my family (my mother, grandmother, and my dad) decided that they would pay for musical instrument private lessons. I chose the Violin (I became a Suzuki Violin Teacher in the future) And i had several hobbies- magic tricks performances (self initiatated), and chemistry (mostly facilitate by my dad), and i was also a alterboy (i learned more about my faith then any clasroom instruction- in my opinion classroom catechism was a joke.) None of these interests were facilitated in the classroom. And none of these "skills" were tested by examination or competition through grade or other evaluation procedures. I was basically competing with myself. So that "saved" me from giving up in the nuerotypical educational system. I developed strategies several im teaching to my students currently. I came to the conclusion very early that i was not stupid as as a daily reminder for 12 years! My thoughts: 'How could I play on the violin Vivaldi concertos (at age 13) and be stupid? The bullies could play baseball well but in my opinion was a waste of time. They (my peers) could recite the make and model of every automotive, and remember every television commercial. I considered this "knowledge" totally irrelevant and useless. Later i discovered that nuerotypical's have good identification association recall (I call it - flashcard fact=fact knowledge) but they (nuerotypical's ) suck at connecting those fact into useable systems or recognizing patterns (which i excel, in comparison to them.)

My daughter has been playing since first grade. She has always had issues in school with reading, math, and writing. I was paying for regular tutors, but she was barely passing. She has always excelled in violin, and it comes so natural to her. She was recently diagnosed with dyslexia, she's going into 5th. I'm getting her therapy outside of school. Your comment gives me so much hope for her!!

Question: Are you dyslexic? I am dyslexic and I can tell with +12 years of direct experience the reasons why the public educational system fails to teach dyslexics effectively.
