E-Flite Extra 300 Windy 3D w/ Flaperons

It's been a long time since I've flown this model - close to over a month at this point, which is a very long time for me given that I tend to fly several times a week. I'm planning to bring it out more, especially now that I've removed the additional tail weight I'd added but had completely forgotten about. Several of the moves I was performing were sloppy not only because the wind blows foam aircraft around easily, but also because I need a bit more expo and I needed to get rid of that weight I'd forgotten about.

Hi Jon, You've really been able to get a lot out of this plane. It's pretty good out of the box but a little squirrelly and unstable in higher alfa. I like your set up video. Question: Do you still fly with the wood 13x6 prop that comes with it? Or have you changed props? And if so, what are you using now? Thanks.

We switched to a Xoar 13x6.5 prop mostly just for the silver color which matches the aircraft quite well: amzn.to/3QJx5S1

That's a very uncommon opinion to hear - most people we've talked to have complained about the E-flite Extra and mentioned that it's too heavy or not responsive enough. We enjoyed ours, but haven't owned one in well over a year by this point. Thanks!

Hey Jon. Incredable flying skills. I'm having a difficult time learning how to control the Harrier position. I'm seeing how that spoiler / Harrier mix would make the front wing slip through the air with less resistance. Once in the Harrier position, are you concentrating more on the throttle or the elevator to keep the nose at the angle that you want. I know you're using both, but whish one do you concentrate on most. The throttle , or the elevator. Let me know please. Any input will be of great help right now. THANKS.

Hey man, thank you! Harrier control is all about throttle management. Once you pick an attitude with the elevator, throttle then controls how much the craft climbs, descends, or otherwise maintains that attitude. You adjust both as-needed - it's something you've gotta feel out. Each plane is unique in how it needs to be handled. I usually dance with both sticks to get it to maintain a stable harrier, but generally I'm more focused on rudder control and thrust modulation than I am on elevator positioning.

How did you get her to fly like that? The knife edge spins and wall to waterfall are such hard spins around the axis, do you use 150% rates for that? Also do you need a different receiver or servos to do that? My BNF Extra can't do more than 100%

Using a neutral CG and full throws makes flying like this possible. You do need to unlock the receiver if you want 150% rates.

Nice 3d. What mah packs are you using and flight times? 2200 3300 mah 4s recommendation. Id like to get at least 5-6 min or if the pack flying 3d.

I'm flying here on 4s 2200 and 3200 50c Smart packs. They work pretty well. I don't think you're gonna get 5-6 minutes doing 3D with this model though, not unless you're really good with throttle management.

For the spoilerons, what programming did it take to put channel 6 in the as3x mode or does this plane come with seperate ailerons from the factory? I just ordered one and will do spoilerons first thing as usual. I’ve just never done it with as3x.

You need a new receiver or you need to unlock the existing receiver. Either will work.

Also, the programming required is setting the transmitter to Flaperon configuration. Or Dual Aileron - that would work as well, but you wouldn't get timed flap/spoiler deployment. You also need to make sure that the receiver knows you're using this wing type because otherwise you won't get the correct AS3X response.

I'm using an AR637TA receiver, so it's still six channels. The SPM file is pretty simple but I'm currently busy making my new F/A-18D from E-Flite have full span flaps and tailerons for its maiden tomorrow. Feel free to remind me and I'll upload it for you.

Hey Jon. Need your knowledge. I can't live without Flaperons. Have them programmed into all my scratch built airplanes. Question. I just bought an AeroScout with an "AR631" receiver. Just like the EXTRA 300. I know I'll have to go in and change the wing type to the Flaperon setting on my Spectrum transmitter to activate the Flaperons. Is that what you did to give you the Flaperon option on your EXTRA. I made the Big mistake of putting an AR631 Receiver from a wrecked RV-7 onto a scratch built airplane which was an immediate catastrophic failure. Didn't clear the factory RV-7 SETTINGS. On the AeroScout with the AR631 Receiver, can I go in and change the wing type to the Flaperon setting without disrupting the compatability of the AR631 Receiver to the AeroScout. I hope my question makes since to you. Let me know please. THANKS.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJCVdoKJd7eomZI Here's the setup I fly on that should help you figure out the flaperon wing type. Don't deploy them as flaps with an AeroScout though. You'll want them reflexed upward to act as spoilers which will allow you to bring the model in with a nice flare and still slow it down. You'll have to reprogram the AR631 in the AeroScout before doing this though. Search for "Unlock AR637TA" on KZbin.

What receiver are you using you can’t be using the one that came with it correct. Because that does not support flapetons and if it does how do you get it to work. Then what is that setting where all your control surfaces point up

Right in front of the cockpit. It still flies a bit unstable even 20mm ahead of that point, but it's overall OK.

Oh, sorry, I misread. Thought you wrote nose-heavy for some reason. That's why I shouldn't comment at 1am. Yeah, what you could do here is run a pair of 3200 packs in parallel. I've done it before and it definitely tames the model quite a bit.
