Obstacles all around you...alot of people dont have those kind of skills. So, good on you for warning them. Sweet planes...good job on the vids👍
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris! I know for a fact that there's so many way better pilots out there, but I DID learn to fly in "tighter" quarters, and for me, it's kinda normal. Some guys think it's the same as flying with a wide opened flying field, but it's honestly NOT...there's good and bad that goes with it. Good, it FORCED us to stay close for filming. Bad, it's a lot harder to shoot landings on a FAST plane like this. This plane flies GREAT, but it needs time and a LONG shallow glide slope to get in at the right speed....this helps to keep the gear from getting bent, like I did ;) OR there's just more flying, and more practice and playing with CG to get it WAY back without making the plane fall over on it's side in a NASTY low level stall ;(

I know this comment is probably over a year late but I just started this amazing hobby back in April. I fly this beautiful bird at my local airfield and land on a grass runway and have had to replace that nosewheel axle myself. The nose gear axle thread is reverse threaded, if you turn clockwise to remove it they come out fairly easily plus HH sells them at a reasonable price too which is great.

You are absolutely the very first person I have ever seen successfully change out a retract without purchasing parts exclusively from the company that made the jet! Great job
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tuna! I HATE buying parts, BUT on retracts, it's just the better option...when we run these "early" release flights, this sorta thing is almost bound to happen, since we CAN'T get them many times, this time included - LOL! I know this screw repair will probably bend too ;( BUT, if it bends the right way, I can just turn it 180 degrees, and get back at it, then when it breaks off, I'll just swap it out. I'd like to put a brass sleeve over the screw to thicken up the assembly a bit, but still allow it to come off if I'd have a real rough landing. Maybe SS would be better, since it'd be stiffer??? Not sure the best answer, but I know that a large part of my issue on that item was the short strip and short flying circuit, but this is what I LOVE. I love the simulated carrier landings!!! I'll be doing a couple flapperon videos soon, so keep an eye out to see how much better (or worse) she performs. You don't want to have to crash yours, so let me do it to mine for you - LOL!!!! Thanks for being here with us Tuna Flights!

The F-16 Thunderbirds is a bit easier than this, but it's a great way to build up to this more advanced, faster, and heavier model. This plane is great - I wish you the best of luck with this one!

@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Eflite - but I'm bias, because I know how awesome this plane is, but regrettably, I can't say how well the Freewing does ;( Wouldn't it be CRAZY [I say crazy, but I mean a totally easy, blatantly obvious decision] if MotionRC worked with us too?!??!? Then I could do a SIDE by SIDE ;) You should tell then that the next time you call them up - LOL - I've been asking them for years, but they just keep giving us somewhere between the silent treatment to the middle finger - LOL...but we'd do their stuff too ;)

Hey Brian, the 70mm E-flite F-16 (The Thunderbirds) is pretty much my go-to plane, I fly it ALL the time, it flies like a glove and I'm more comfortable with it than any of my other jets. I've also gotten MUCH better at landing it because I have to fly out of my Dad's pasture and its a rough runway but I can set it down without breaking the gear every time now. My question is, since you've flown both, if I'm comfortable with that 70mm F-16 do you feel like it would be safe (pun intended) a to step up to this 80mm? How similar to you feel this 80mm is to the 70mm as far as its handling, landing speed, etc?
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
If you're flying from Grass, that's the real quesiton. If you can fly the 70mm, you can fly the 80mm, but can you LAND it? Grass would be a no go, unless you're on geotextile fabric or something like this.
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
If you can fly from a road, that might work too.

I think you can get some retracts with brakes on them for this craft. Also, i may want to fiberglass the wing tips and nose cone. Nice looking jet, i have been on the fence of getting one for a few months now. What do you think is the best model? Eflite, hanger 9, umx, freewing?

I was surprised you didn’t take the F-16 to the road. I remember you doing that with another jet. Not questioning you, I’d need 3 of your driveway lengths to land this EDF. Hence the reason my 80mm a-10 after being built 6 months ago hasn’t been maidened. (Scared to land it. Well, scared I’ll run out of runway)
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, fear is a real thing ;) The F-18 is easier to land, if you have space. Flaps make a HUGE difference on the F-18, but the rollout and wonky but BEAUTIFUL landing gear makes for a complex situation if you have any yaw correction on the landings with either of these planes.

You can do a RANGE TEST which lowers the power to the Tx circuit to 10% of normal and you can walk till it stops working. If you fly too far, it goes into fail safe, and you lost your plane ;(

It's been JUST long enough I can't honestly 100% remember. I want to say 5000mAh would be better, but she'll take either size with stride. I like a lighter jet, generally, but flight times are always so close with edf's too...seems like you gain about 25% of what you expect when sizing up, due to the heavy nature of EDF's.

Love the review Brian! The sound is truly amazing! I have 4 Eflite Planes and two years of experience. Now I’m thinking of buying it but this would be my first EDF jet. Would you recommend buying it as a EDF Newbie or should I go with the Viper 90mm?
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
If you can stomach waiting on this, I'd suggest before you take the plunge on this or the 90mm Viper, you might instead consider the 70mm F-16 or 50/70mm Habu...I know it'll kill you taking the middle step, but need to keep in mind, these faster flying, and heavier landing jets (like this F-16) are pretty hard to land. They fly great, and with enough room and good conditions, are FINE for landing, but they just take more skill...skills that are strangely different than that earned from flying a prop driven plane.
