***CORRECTION*** We were wrong about the RX. With the AR637TA RX the Super Timber comes equipped with...you have 6 actual ports, but 3 other "Virtual/Function" channels. So...you CAN have a full span aileron mix, Thrust Reverse, and AS3X/SAFE on switches with the stock RX (If your TX has the channels)...no need for a larger RX to get all the options/functions.
@loganmartin71557 ай бұрын
I have a night timber x with full span ailerons and would love to get reverse thrust as well. How do you use the virtual function channels?
@ModelAV8RChannel7 ай бұрын
You'll see AUX2, AUX3, etc. depending on how many channels your TX is. Just assign that function to one of those on whatever switch you want...which for reverse thrust is handled in the Avian programming.

I was going to ask you about this. I just use Flight Modes for my aR631's.. Thanks for clarifying 👍
@ModelAV8RChannel7 ай бұрын
@thomasedwards629 For crow and full span ailerons...yes. If you just want one or the other, no. With the 6 channel (6 actual ports), you can y the ailerons and isolate the two flap servos for full span ailerons, or y the flaps and isolate the ailerons for crow. To have both... you have to isolate all 4... then you need more channels (ports).

I'm in love with my Super Timber. I put on DuBro tires, took off the slats and vortex generators. Flies better than any plane I have. Fast as a jet on full throttle, and as slow as a kite with flaps and no throttle. Takes off on a dime. She's acrobatic as well. She's a dream. I have jets, and all I want to do is fly my Super Timber.

I learned to fly both fixed and rotary wing model. During this process I crashed numerous times. My time and money could have been avoided with AS3X and SAFE. I viewed these training aids as a crutch but not any more. They will save you money and air time.

They can be a crutch...or a training aid. All in how you use it. To be fair, if someone wants a crutch, and they are having fun...I reckon that is alright as well.

Maybe it's just me but - at least with Timbers - I think SAFE enables slower flying than fully hands on can achieve so I will often switch it on just to see how slow I can mooch around with flaps.
@ModelAV8RChannel7 ай бұрын
@@infinitesky-59 For sure Timbers will fly slow even at a lower angle of attack, but It's just you. SAFE limits control throw. I can get any plane (including Timbers) at a higher angle of attack (slower) out of SAFE than I can in it. You need the elevator and rudder throw combined with throttle modulation to get as slow as a plane is capable of flying.
@infinitesky-597 ай бұрын
@@ModelAV8RChannel It's me being lazy Adam. As only an occasional flyer now I just find slow fly steadier and easier in SAFE especially with something like a Timber X but If I was a more regular flyer I might well have eventually got better than the artificial aids.

Nice plane thanks for your detailed review as always! The big question for me being that it’s HH is how long it will be until it’s discontinued and the parts support dries up. Their products tend to have very short life cycles.
@ModelAV8RChannel7 ай бұрын
Thanks very much! So, to be fair that is a very broad statement, and not totally true. HH has had plenty of planes sell for a very long time. How they sell determines the lifespan. Great sellers like Timbers sell a long time, and because they sell so well (top selling model ever maybe) they get updated as they get feedback as to what customers want. Planes that don't sell well get discontinued, and on occasion it can be an issue with factories in China. Sometimes they won't make spare parts for a plane that isn't in production. This one has everything, and I suspect it will be in production a while.

Nice review Adam. How would you compare it with the Balsa Timber Sws? Would be an interesting comparison between those two since this one is half the price of the sws and easier to put together.
@ModelAV8RChannel7 ай бұрын
Yep, that is the advantage of foam...less expensive and easier to assemble, although the SWS is cake to assemble for a balsa model. The SWS's advantage is what you'd expect from a big balsa bird. It has more presence due to the shear size, it is much more resistant to hangar rash, and is still the most precise Timber I've ever flown. That said the ST is the most precise foam Timber by a good bit, and it reminded me of the SWS in that respect. The ST has some other clear advantages. It has the potential to be much better at 3D/XA aerobatics with the full span aileron option, but with sport aerobatics they are pretty evenly matched. It has much better gear and is a better pure STOL/bush plane. It has much better lights. The interchangeable slats are key...being able to take them off for aerobatics and put them on for STOL/bush flying is significant. Obviously the new light inflatable wheels are amazing...and can improve the SWS as well as they will fit it. Bottom line is there are legit reasons for both depending on who you ask and what they are looking for. I haven't flown a bad Timber...they are all good given what they are and the genre they are in. Best selling rc plane line in history for a reason. We has passed on most of the sport/bush planes we've been sent and reviewed to other deserving modelers...we just don't have room to keep them all. The ST and SWS are both still in our hangar. What does that tell you...

Hey Adam, I went with a Spektrum AR8360T and separated my ailerons and flaps.. which gives me CROW. I have yet to maiden my ST.. thoughts on CROW for this airframe?
@ModelAV8RChannel6 ай бұрын
That is cool. I now have full span ailerons as well, but didn't change the RX to get crow. I had crow on my Legacy Turbo Bushmaster. It's cool to keep it from gaining too much speed on a down line. You just have to know when to get rid of it if you're trying to use it to come down steep and land. It blocks the tail out on some planes and you can't get it to round out and flare.
@bigrickRC11446 ай бұрын
@@ModelAV8RChannel thanks Adam.. excellent advise.. I didn’t think about the tail impact. I was more thinking the possible 3D effects CROW would give the ST when prop hangin her.
@ModelAV8RChannel6 ай бұрын
Technically you shouldn't need crow to hover it, maybe snap flaps to pop it into the hover quicker. Once you're there the normal 3 axis should be able to hold it fine if you have full span ailerons. All that said, playing with the crow and seeing what you can do with it should be fun.

Hey my friend I have a question when I set up all 3 flight modes off/as3x and safe when I put it in safe on the ground the elevator goes up but when I level the plane the elevator goes towards neutral but not actually center and I was wondering if that is just the way safe is on this bird? When I put in as3x the elevator goes center and off its center but when in safe and I level the bird the elevator still seems up?? wonder if that is just the way it is???
@ModelAV8RChannel4 ай бұрын
SAFE should always move the control surfaces in the direction that levels the plane. At level they should be neutral (centered). From what you're describing the elevator is moving the wrong way. On the wheels the nose will be up naturally, so SAFE *should feed in down elevator to bring the tail up to center the plane.
@DronemanJoeRc4 ай бұрын
@@ModelAV8RChannel thanks bud, i got it figured out. Idk what i was thinking. I see when its just sitting there on the back wheel in safe the elevator rises up a bit and when i raise the tail it goes more center. Idk what i was thinking when i asked that question. Thanks again for the feed back.
@ModelAV8RChannel4 ай бұрын
Happy to help if I can man. I think I was confused about what you're referring to. You're saying the elevator raises in SAFE when it's on its tailwheel. I'm thinking the back of the elevator...so up elevator...which is wrong. You're probably talking about the elevator counter balances on the front...which would mean down elevator (to raise the tail to level), and that is correct.

@@andrewbaerm.d.3984 I prefer the way the airplane flies when it's lighter.

@@ModelAV8RChannelThat is interesting. I'm relatively new...no 3d...I just picked up 5000s...4s and 6s
@ModelAV8RChannel2 ай бұрын
It will fly fine on 5000's. Long flight time too. Bit of a different feel, but fine.

What does expo mean?
@ModelAV8RChannel7 ай бұрын
This setting alters how sensitive the sticks are around the center point. It does not alter the total throw of the servo movement. It alters the default linear curve to one that either is less sensitive (positive expo) or more sensitive (negative expo) around the middle point.

@@ModelAV8RChannel thank you for the explanation, I’ve been wondering what that meant for some time. I’ve got an NX8 setup the way I like it. And a timber evo 1.5. I’m new to all this but trying to get all the advantages I can. Can you recommend expo settings for a beginner?

I know right! They keep making them better!

If only they made a proper scale cockpit with lexan sheet windows for us FPV bush flyers🙏🤠
@ModelAV8RChannel7 ай бұрын
Well, it isn't a scale plane to be fair, and that would require more weight and $. Think of windows in a foam plane like a convertible car. When you remove the top of a car...you are removing an important part of the structure, so more reinforcement has to be added to make it as strong as it was. That is why the convertible version of every car is heavier than the regular version. Same with a foam model. The foam where the window stickers are is part of the structure supporting the wing/fuse connection. You take that away, you have to add more reinforcement (weight) to make it as structurally sound as it was before you cut all that away. That costs more to develop and design. Not really worth it on most sport planes.

@@ModelAV8RChannel yeah, I'm with you on those points. Just me daydreaming🤠 Great review btw! Loved the pneumatic tires! I'm impressed with the weight on those😮 I use Xfly Tasman wheels on my SuperCub, but those are closer to 80 grams a piece.. I have far less bounce leaving them slightly deflated like you pointed out. It also helps avoiding nose-overs, since it's easier to run over stuff with soft tires.
@ModelAV8RChannel7 ай бұрын
Man these tires are SO nice! Been waiting on something like them a while...

You forgot to mention, that they are very easy to pop, if we going to be honest.
@ModelAV8RChannel4 ай бұрын
@BartBochenski Well, if we are being honest... I'd have had to pop one to know that, which I didn't. Keep in mind that this was filmed before the plane was released. Nobody had popped one, and knock on wood... I still haven't.

All rubber tires should be aired up and measured with cloth tape for total circumference not by psi , too tight I found they'll bounce too much during landing

Brilliant walk thorough and off course expert flying. It looks like they have got all the good parts from other planes and put them into a orsum Timber. I wonder when it will hit the UK. 🫡
