Hey. If 90% of that oil industrial area wants to turn right to go to the highway, just put a slip lane there to bypass the traffic light, that is something very common specially on industrial areas. No logic to force the traffic to waste time on the junction if they want to just turn right

Biffa's channel is officially at the "Good Day Maker" level 😃 Also, i'd like to give you a suggestion: It is also possible to take large buildings intended for offices or shops, place them, and then place smaller residential buildings on top of them (when anarchy is on) so the smaller building will hide inside of the bigger one. Both buildings will continue to function as usual, and this way you can simulate mixed used buildings effectively while also getting the visuals of the cool huge skyscrapers. It can be used when you build the downtown, for example
@jasonwojnicz2 жыл бұрын
Police, Fire, Hospital and School Board would look nice around the City Hall building. Might need a second road maintenance over by the new transport hub. A city park along the river by the low value land (near the building-ups) might help a lot. Maybe a fishing pier or something? But I love this city so far.

Transport hub around the railway, add some commercial around it too to make it more of a destination in and of itself. If you bring the metro in, I'd bring it too City hall and have it terminate there. For this one, I'd try and make the train the primary mass transit to the area. It also sets you up for the riviera along the coast. I was also thinking you had that space beyond the tree bit where you could add some more services like a waste transfer facility, or possibly between the big road and the rail tracks up near Oregon. Gotta say, I love the mixed use buildings, it's about time they were added properly into the game anyway!

I find it a bit strange that no single car wants to turn left when coming from the industrial are. Also, these blocks are spaced well enough where you could place parking in the middle of the apartments and place a 1u road to get to them. It is a requirement in America that residential buildings have 1.5 parking spaces per bedroom

@heygek27692 жыл бұрын
That is only true in suburbs and the like, not in higher density residential areas. Imagine those 60 household buildings would need 90 parking spaces 180 if they're double bedroom, not even counting the shops at the bottom.
@turtleofthemoon2 жыл бұрын
@@heygek2769 Yeah, higher density areas definitely don't do the 1.5 spaces thing. I live in Boston and my building shares a parking lot with the building next door. Together the two buildings have probably something around 40-50 bedrooms and the parking lot has maybe 20 spaces. The waiting list to get a spot is months long, if they can even give you an estimate, and it's $150 a month once you've got one. It's kind of insane, and NYC has got to be even worse. My sister flat out sold her car when she moved down there so she didn't have to deal with it.

Stuff like this is my primary reason for wanting Cities Skylines 2. Mods are great, but they can't change the basic foundation of the game. Cities Skylines, in its current state, is rather car-centric. There are no mixed-use zones or buildings, and it's impossible to build walk-only areas. I hope the sequel deals with this and makes some of the more significant mods a base game feature (e.g. Move it, TMPE, etc.).
@jaydouglas10902 жыл бұрын
Biffa on your next Main Street you should try to use mixed used commercial and residential spaces offset back from the road but have a tram line between road and shops. You can use the node controller trick overcharged egg uses to put the trams and street on the same node and then make the node larger so it looks like the trams run parallel to the road. For the mixed use, then move the building spawn point to the back of the building and have your road access from the back. The shops will face the street but all access will be from the back to keep traffic away from Main Street.

I know of some mixed use buildings that are shops on the bottom couple of floors, then offices for a few floors, then apartments or condos above that. All 3 needs fulfilled by one building.

The new section looks as if it has always been the city's historic core but the city government decided to demolish the old center as "slum clearance/blight removal" and regenerated as its modern mixed-use, high-density neighborhood. It cries out for multiple metro lines running through it with one of the lines meeting the railway station and bus terminal in a multimedia hub. There are such hubs in the game already either in one of the DLCs or mods. There are precedents for this district such as the demolition of Boston's West End and Scollay Square for its Charles River Park and Government Center. 😞😓😩 Also I was thinking, maybe the road by the original neighborhood that used to be a stroad could be upgraded to a freeway? 🤔
@stevengalloway80522 жыл бұрын
Biffa, I recall some of Smilies's mixed use buildings are angled as well. Perhaps you can also angle the roads and streets to match the buildings, giving you an interesting layout... 😏
@kasbakgaming2 жыл бұрын
I think if you draw a large park area over the condos with the open space in the middle, you can then erase the sections of it over the buildings/roads and get a whole bunch of small park sections in between all the buildings that are treated as one big park. You can then put paths in the middle and use the park assets that are zoneable on paths. That would give you a wide spread boost to land value using space that's otherwise unused in the middle of those buildings, as well as a chance to decorate with stuff like gazebos and the playground equipment for the kiddlywinkies.
@paulknight50182 жыл бұрын
A couple of observations. In the American Cities I have been to downtown is mixed use (as this is) with a lot of the bigger government buildings near by. City Hall even if crowded by sky scrapers have a large plaza with fountains gardens etc out the front. Some bigger Commercial buildings (Skyscrapers if set by the river) could be good. That area is crying out for a mixed hub transit area, Bus/ Train /Metro as it is a long way from the industrial centre. I know Biffa does not like to build too many tunnels but maybe build a Hamburger Deckel for the larger roads in the city (a covered motorway which now has parks on top. I know this is non American (but Boston's big dig Seattle underground scheme and closer to home London and Liverpool have plenty of underground roads) but it seems quite a cool way that hopefully some cities will follow.

I love Smilies' mixed use buildings, but they do have the major flaw that the high density commercial lower floors constantly make the residential upper floors sick with noise pollution. Especially when you place several modular towers close to each other, you'll have a constant stream of ambulances trying to keep up with the huge number of sick people. One way to avoid this is disable noise pollution altogether via mod, but I kinda like the feature as a whole, so that wasn't an option for me. Instead, I used the ploppable RICO mod to change the commercial floors into offices instead - since offices don't create noise pollution, they don't conflict with the residential upper levels.

Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but most US highways that are inside the city are 55-65 on their speed limit. 25 is typical for residential, 35 is typical for smaller non-residential, and 35-45 is typical for surface roads. 36:18 and 36:28. You can turn the junctions into custom traffic lights and give everyone green all the time. Sadly you won't be able to make the side street give way. Possibly disallow any left turns and use lane connectors to make traffic actually flow freely instead of fighting it out. There might even be the possibility to do the following 2 phase setup: The first phase "all cars" with 3-99 second time setting and "flow ratio = 0" condition, and the second phase "all pedestrians" with 4-99 seconds and "wait ratio > 0". This SHOULD make the traffic light green for cars whenever there's a car around, but green for pedestrians otherwise. edit: Also, at 36:47 you forgot the road coming from the old side of the city.

Surely you only need one transport hub per town? I'd certainly place a metro stop at city Hall and perhaps behind the new build section. Several bus stops for sure, but no hubs. It always amazes me how City skylines has do many fire stations and police stations in this and the UK version. For any Americans reading, UK towns and cities typically have One police station, One fire station, one hospital... outside of capital cities. Not one in each housing estate, which would be crazy.

Use the transporthub tab instead of to separate stations

The mixed buoldings are amazing! I wonder though if they really need the floaty bit - couldnt the residential part go all the way to the ground and just be hidden/clipped by the bottom part? That way it could have been used even without the bottom part, for more veriation

You can save some traffic at your starting roundabout of the city by connecting the freeway from the oil area to the the bridge the connects to the roundabout. Once you unlocked that tile, you could have changed it up so that all the incoming and outgoing traffic didn’t have to go through the one side of the roundabout. Then the overpass road could go over the roundabout to the bridge so that traffic can go straight to the factory area.

Love the new build, I would absolutely live there! So wonderful with the mixed-use buildings, parks, and the river.

tons of parking garages would need to be added to accommodate all of those mixed use properties like Santa Monica, CA

Tennis courts for an elementary school? How about a few parks that are made to fit with schools? There are also skateboard parks. And here I was thinking I could list like 4 or 5 other types of park that you could maybe look for some assets on but then, I had no more. Still, some new parks and playgrounds could be nice.

On a tangent: I think I remember a workshop mod that offers mixed zoning… I am honestly baffled that paradox has not yet updated the zoning tools so one can adjust them to one’s wishes…

Biffa, love the new areas but at 39:00 it’s very same level, maybe just 1 or 2 of the taller condos to mix it very slightly.
