I was thinking something like Cal Kestis who uses primarily light side but sometimes a little dark. Like the light keeps dark in check. Idk if its any good, just an idea I developed more in my comment at your previous video.

I can go with that. He’s a different kind of Jedi, the old order is dead.

No. To be a Jedi is to, to the best of one’s ability, follow the code of that organisation. If you bend the rules so much you’re not following the code, then you’re not a Jedi. However, that’s not to say that all force users who are not Jedi must be “evil”. But the dark side corrupts, so you can’t just tap into it without consequence. Personally I think the idea is just a very videogamey concept - invented so that people could have “fun” force choking enemies whilst still being allowed to be a good guy who gets the happy ending including “getting the girl”.

If it was teenage me I would be all for it but after learning more about the dark side and those who try to use the dark side for good intentions only by twist it in the end it will never work out the dark side will CONTROL you. Plus grey Jedi will just choose the light side in the end and it just phase those who want all the power with no consequences not to say there couldn’t be a force sect organization who are similar to the “grey Jedi” but don’t use the dark side or name themselves Jedi like the imperial knights who loyal emperor of the fel empire and the jensaari which both avoid the dark side.

OK, I've been thinking about this for several days and just have to say it: Why is it so accepted to say that the Jedi are dogmatic? Is it due to conflating with real world institutions? (I think that's not where Lucas was going.) Or, is it, as you said, Palpatine said the Jedi are dogmatic' ? I mean, Palpatine said? Really? That's the trusted source for this theory? I know a lot of folk will jump all over this comment, but, I just don't see the Jedi that way.

People apply Daosim to Star Wars in the most inaccurate way possible. The Light and Dark sides of Star Wars are a moral duality of Good and Evil. Daoism is not primarily a system of morality. It is about the duality of nature: Day and Night, Male and Female, Hot and Cold, Full and Empty, Mountain and Valley. Daoism doesn't primarily deal with morality in the way Western religion does. It thinks of good as clear water and evil as a muddy pond where you cannot see. But the black (yin) of the yin-yang is not evil and the white (yang) is not good. They are the dual aspects of nature which are both considered good, in a moral sense. Living counter to nature and the Dao (or the Way) would be Daoism's conception of evil.

Curious to what you think of beings like the father who was made during Georges time that seem kind of middle of the force, and the bendu who is self proclaimed middle?
@GeekyStoics8 ай бұрын
Yeah not sure honestly! I love everything Dave Filoni has led and those both have his finger prints all over them. No doubt he likes to play with that gray middle idea. Bendu, I think we need more material to understand what that thing really is…and the father, Ahsoka season 2?? Maybe you can represent a balance in the Force but not BE balance…..if that makes sense

I don't agree with her comments about balance, and it would seem out of place for Jedi to be ok with romantic relationships when they're at their peak (if that's even part of the show)... But would it make sense for Rey's new Jedi order to have completely different rules than the Republic era Jedi? Maybe that is where they will try to build a Jedi order that doesn't have the same rules about detachment.
@GeekyStoics8 ай бұрын
I think thats right and fair! New Jedi Order can be whatever they want it to be. That would be neat to see….but! What would their message be about the tradeoffs? - stephen
@johnklocke63278 ай бұрын
@@GeekyStoics unfortunately there has never been much of a Catholic/Orthodox-like understanding of the positive reasons for celibacy in Star Wars. It's mostly just the Buddhist detachment idea. So I think if Rey's order allowed marriage, they would simply swing to the opposite extreme from detachment--indulgence!--and because that's in line with Disney's values, there will be no tradeoffs. It will work out great. A similar dichotomy, which I dislike and find to be misleading about Catholicism, is in the movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Quasimodo has a choice between total suppression of his desires in the Church or joining the gypsies, who in the story are total libertines. Where's the third or fourth option of healthy celibacy or virtuous marriage?

Great video! I’ve seen that Disney would like to depart from George Lucas view of the force. George has such an interesting view of the force that obviously has evolved, but it makes SO MUCH SENSE! This really makes me sad to hear and I do think that Disney would like to set themselves as far apart from the Prequel Trilogy as they possibly can.

Hi! Totally, I think Cal is a good example of a Jedi more in tune with the living Force. Yes, he struggles with temptation but he overcomes it by choosing what's right... not adhering to a dogmatic code. Thanks for watching!

I always looked at Balance meaning Stability. You can’t have stability in your life when seeking unvirtuous ends and you don’t have stability in a political system when corruption and self interest dominate. The Jedi mission was to use virtue and the force to protect the republic. The Sith goal was ends justifies the means political control. When seen in this context cutting out the cancer of Sith is completely logical to bring stability. The reality is that when you throw multiple philosophical and religious views in a blender, you don’t get something that is coherent.

Yeah the light side definitely is the balance of the force in my experience playing the force unleashed games the dark side only brings corruption and misery it was not worth it. Looking at the mortis arc even if someone balanced the light and dark it does not last long the dark side will never be satisfied hell I will even said The Son is victim to the dark side looking at his reaction to the daughter and father death he genuinely care for his family he may represent the dark side but he doesn’t control it. With the grey Jedi will never work out in universe and would choose the light side in end not to there couldn’t be a force sect that are similar to grey Jedi but don’t use the dark side and not called Jedi like the imperial knights of fel empire in the legacy era.
