That setup is pretty amazing. It's wild to think that those white boxes are batteries. I have so much to learn about these off grid systems so this was interesting to watch. If you have time: How do you know what size system you need? Is there an easy way to pick a system out if you wanted to a quick off-grid setup for an outbuilding?

You can hook your water heater up to a heat pump. I would like to know what your total price to go off grid.

The Ethos seems to be about double the cost of other popular wall mount batteries like EG4 or Midnight solar. I'm not sure which is the better quality.

Stay tuned for info on the EG4 system. :)

Do you have a video on how you installed the solar panels
@watahyahknow4 ай бұрын
not sure if you have day and (cheaper) night tarif on youre mains hookup to the grid (we have double meters and the cheaper tarif is from 2300 hour to about 4.00 hour in the morning ) the batteries could be charged on this cheaper nighttarif if there isnt enugh sun in the daytime to keep them topped off enough to power the house fully on solar (like when its snowing or raining all day ) the whole time , you can still run off those batteries but using cheaper mains power to fill them up the rest of the way to last through 24 hours

What is the projected life span of this setup? Nice clean job on your electrical needs!
@burtburtist4 ай бұрын
lithium cells usually will last you 5-10y the panels should go well beyond to around 30y think the bottleneck of this system is just the lithium batteries themselves assuming good maintenance and rocks not falling from the sky and destroying the panels

I’ve often wondered about the viability of the small point of use electric tankless water heaters. It would mean one at each water source but they aren’t that expensive sooo?

What was the name of the first solar compact generator you had with your first camper. Were you happy with it. My husband and I are looking for one for our camper.
@sam-and-angela4 ай бұрын
That was probably a BLUETTI power station. It would supplement our power, but not really run everything long term. Most portable power station setups lack the ability to have large solar input, which is very important for power demands. Otherwise you are just using up your battery and will then have to wait for the small solar to charge it back up before using again.

How do you get rid of all your trash ? Do you have in your county a collection lorry that collects it ?
@sam-and-angela4 ай бұрын
The county has stations where you take it and put it into various bins according to the type of waste.

Hey Sam! Question: I’m hearing a lot about possible EMP attacks and I’m afraid. I have one bluetti and a small solar panel. Are there measures that an average person can take to save what they can? Thank you for helping teach people. Darla in NC
@sam-and-angela4 ай бұрын
A major EMP attack is a subject that is very easy to quickly spiral into hopeless thoughts over, so try not to let fear rule your decisions. Faraday enclosures are the most common way to theoretically prevent damage, but it's all theory. We've never experienced an EMP attack like media or novels portray, so everything sold is unproven. In my opinion, the best way to prepare for an EMP is with pre-electric or pre-semiconductor items and skillsets, but it's not an event we personally prepare for. Hope this helps?

@@sam-and-angelathank you for responding. I’ll try not to be so fearful. Seems the media just keeps trying to scare us. ❤️

Don't get a propane water heater. Get a heat pump water heater, and put it on a timer to shut off over night.

Nothin on the ethos but I use my toaster oven too. Oven broke awhile ago and just have never gotten it fixed and don’t even need it. If it weren’t so unconventional I could probably just get rid of the stove all together.
@billy-go9kx4 ай бұрын
You haven't said how much of your battery you use each day versus charging. Even with all of those solar panels you have to put your stove and hot water heater on shore power (navel term) means you are using a lot in the house.
@daviddarnell88984 ай бұрын
Heat pump water heater would use much less energy.
