Your looking at your soap problem wrong, what you need to do is tell people you created a contour shaped bar of soap to better fit the contours of the human body! Ergonomically shaped!

I love that you're baking the things that are so nostalgic to you. My 2 year old granddaughter and her daddy live with me and I'm slowly involving her in the kitchen just as I did with my son. He's now a wonderful cook, much better than me, and does the majority of cooking in the house, but baking is my thing. Yesterday, my granddaughter and I made gingerbread men and the pieces for a gingerbread house and tomorrow, we'll put it together and decorate it. Of course, it'll be messy and she'll eat half of the icing before it makes it to the gingerbread, but she loves helping and I hope we'll be making memories and traditions that she'll continue long after I'm gone. That's the essence of Christmas.

Hi! The soap bars look like they were made with a little too much water. The water is evaporating out as it dries. I usually do a ratio of 1 part lye (what the recipe calls for) to 2 parts water. I also superfat by 2%, so after I find out how much lye I need for the amount of oil, I’ll add 2% more oil. This takes them a little longer to set, but it helps it keep its shape. Also, when the bars dry, my edges still get a little sharp, so I use a potato peeler to shave down the edges. Hope this helps!

It's just not fair Chelsea, turkey, mayonnaise and cranberry sauce in a bun. You swoosh it under our noses, then go off and eat it . 😢 I personally do not like almond but i should imagine that another flavour essence could be substituted

Since you get so many bugs in the summer, it might be nice to screen in the overhang side of the second building you showed us. That would give you almost double the living space, during summer, and visitors could even sleep out there, if they wanted to, and not be eaten alive by bugs. You could still store things inside the screened in area, and it would be more protected.

I have been soaping and selling for 11 years. I have never had soap curve but I suspect it is because your atmosphere is dry. In the future you might want to turn them every few day for a couple weeks in the beginning. Truthfully it doesn’t matter or affect the quality.

Chelsea, may I please comment on something I’ve noticed during the past year? Your process of hand-washing dishes. And I am in NO WAY being critical!!! As a right-handed person it seems as though the direction of your washing-to-rinsing-to-stacking is counter-intuitive, an anomaly - holding the item in the left hand to scrub with the right, then passing it into the right hand to cross the body and move it into the second sink on the right side adds several redundant steps into the job. Holding and moving it consistently in only the left hand w/no hand transfers moves the process along more efficiently. I studied time management decades ago and find that saving ‘steps’ in any process really is easier in the long run. I think that this is a very small process correction but it saves half of the time spent doing dishes - please try it for a while and then feel free to totally ignore this!!!

I believe your soap may have had too much water. One of the very first soaps I made had glycerine rivers in it which caused the soap to kind of collapse on itself which made it have the curved sides. Doesn’t hurt a thing except your feelings of not having a perfect bar of soap🤣

Delightful, the way you interjected Dan agreeing to let us see the cabin "as is" was funny and warmly casual, thank you Dan! That bunkie is adorable!!! You two have excellence in your DNA I think. I'm not saying it's easy, I appreciate the choosing to work diligently! Very Merry Christmas All, Laural

We use that puff as a base, think more direction eclairs. If you use sweet pastry you can fill them with a sweet filling but if you make the unsweetned version you can go so many directions. Fill them with a cheese sauce with added ham or bacon, cream cheese and smoke salmon... We eighter cut them open carefully or poke a hole in it and fill with a piping bag.

Chelsea, I've never had soap warp. I store my cut pieces in a closet at room temperature. I use a card board box, leave plenty of space between pieces and cover the soap with a dish cloth to allow the soap to breathe. I can tell when the soap has hardened and cured enough so it can be used. Every soap recipe has a different curing time, depending on the oils in the recipe. I find olive oil based soap the slowest to cure.

I'm not sure why your soap is warping, but it could possibly be that the other sides are drying faster than the bottom that is convex. I keep mine turned every week or so while curing, as well as using the least amount of water in the recipe that it can handle. For a 64 ounce batch, I use 12 ounces of water and just barely 6 ounces of lye. Actually I use more like 5.9 ounces, as 6 ounces is the absolute max my recipes will handle without more advanced knowledge of the chemical balance.

Almond puff looks so very good! I can't wait to try this myself. I do make a chou (sp) pastry into balls to cook and then whip real heavy cream to fill the balls. Your bars are loosing the excess water and shrinking , it has to do with your recipe nothing wrong with the bars. You could try using a water discount next time. Also I have to say I have been a soap maker for 25 years and turning your bars everyday is a waste of your time it will take no difference .
