I was taught to put flour with my seasonings in a brown paper bag, now I use a gallon size Ziploc bag, and put my stew meat in the bag, shake it all up, then put the meat only in hot oil to brown the beef first. After browning I was then taught to start layering in the veggies. But then, I'm in my 70's so it was a different time! Love the way you witness at the end of the video though. That part was missing from my childhood kitchen! God bless you and your lovely family.

I always buy London broils when they are on sale to make stew with because buying stew beef is from all over the animal and all uneven cuts. using a London broil I can use more beef and know exactly what kind it is and cut it up in the sizes I want it to be. they are also much cheaper than stew beef when they are on sale. this stew looks so yummy! we're due for some cooler weather the end of the week and I have some London broil. 😋

Nice story about Granny. I remember my Great Grandma's homemade dresses wore them until she passed away in the late 90's we called her Nanny. She was actually from N. Ga. maybe close to where you grew up? If you have ever seen the movie Nell with Jodie Foster, that's my Nanny right at the beginning of the movie, she plays Jodie Foster's dead mother. It's a long story, but they filmed the movie on Fontana Lake and parts of Robbinsville, and my aunt had taken Nanny to town to see all the movie stuff and a Hollywood person had seen Nanny in the crowd and super long story short asked my Aunt if Nanny would be interested in being in the movie! They actually used Nanny's handmade dress and combs she used to brush her long hair, which she always wore in a bun. Love your channel, take care and god bless! Austin
@TheHillbillyKitchen9 жыл бұрын
+Corn Starch That was very close to where I grew up. Went swimming in Fontana Lake more than once when I was a kid. Going all the way to Fontana Lake was a big vacation. I have seen Nell, but it is on Netflix. I am going to pull it up and look for your Nanny. Deliverance was filmed on the river that was very close to where I lived (Lake Chatuga). None of my family is actually in the movie, but I have a second cousin, who's parents are first cousins, and he looks exactly like the kid on the porch playing the banjo. My granny had very long hair that she always wore in a bun, also. I have often wondered if there is a bun in my future. I am not sure if my granny ever had a store bought dress. She made all of her own clothes. I wish I had her old Singer Sewing machine. We had more fun riding on the pedal of it, than we did at the County Fair. Thanks for watching! God Bless You!!!

I remember Mom making beef stew. Oh my gosh was it good!!! I also remember Mom taking the leftovers (if there was any😀) and mashing everything up, I don't know what she added to it but she'd use a big spoon and put it in a (cast iron) skillet and make like (I guess you could call them) beef stew pancakes! They were like fried salmon patties but made with the stew. That, some Mac and cheese, fried green tomatoes, succotash... Oh now I done went and made myself hungry!!!
@TheHillbillyKitchen8 жыл бұрын
+Thomas Pigg I have never made beef stew pancakes but I have made them out of other stuff. I bet they are good. You just beat up an egg or two depending on how much you are making, add some all purpose flour, about a tablespoon of baking powder, some salt and pepper, and enough milk to turn it into batter. I would fry them in butter. Now you have made me hungry :)
@thomaspigg3068 жыл бұрын

We are redoing our kitchen with Oak Cabinets and the paint we picked out is pretty much the same as yours!
@TheHillbillyKitchen9 жыл бұрын
+UKBB I just painted that color last year. I had a much lighter shade of the same color. I love the darker color, but it makes the videos hard to edit, so I may have to go back to the lighter color. I am also going to have to paint my cabinets soon I think. They are almost 20 years old and they are getting pretty rough, especially the bottom ones. I also really like my oak cabinets, but if I can make them last another 20 years I can live with a little paint. After 20 years I guess it is time for a change anyway! I hope you enjoy your kitchen as much as I have enjoyed mine :)
