In UK we often use beer in batter when making fish n chips. My Nan and Grandad had a chippy, and Nan used either soda water or beer in the batter to coat fish. It makes a light, crispy batter, which is perfect for fish n chips

Common in the US to use beer batter. Around where I live, the bars/taverns sell food, chicken and fish are their top sellers. They use a beer batter. Onion rings are also beer-battered, and mushrooms are too. I've eaten beer-battered food my whole life, and that's been a few....lol

Thank you John! I love doing beer bread with herbs and cheese added and then baking it in a muffin tin. It's so perfect to then drop one little muffin sized serving into a soup bowl with some veggie and bean soup. Thank you for reminding us that the leftover beer from the holidays can turn into delicious bread!!

@@paulaentwistle5726 I tend to do cheddar mostly but have also done swiss. I'll usually do about a cup shredded and then a few teaspoons of basil and oregano or just rosemary. As long as the herbs go with the soup I'm happy!

Beer bread is delicious. I found it a little plain with the ordinary beer, so used a very strong dark beer in a second loaf (I know nothing about beer! Lol!) and it turned out great. The dark color of the beer did not stain the flour at all, and the loaf came out a lovely off-white, just like the original loaf. I love how all I needed was a bowl and a rubber spatula. Will now be my go-to beer bread. Look forward to adding other flavors to it. Thanks for the recipe!

Easy to make and delicious. First we toasted and had with jelly, then we substituted biscuits with slices of bread and had it with gravy. Lastly we let the last slices sit out overnight and made french toast the following morning. It was all good!

this was awesome!! I changed things up a little bit, I cut it down to 2 tsp of baking powder, added about 3/4 of a cup or so of shredded white cheddar, garlic powder, onion powder, dried parsley, and molasses. with the added cheese it needed to be baked under an aluminum foil shield for an additional 15 minutes but it came out fantastic, super moist!!

You have a wonderful way of explaining - even explaining how beer bread came about and that it sort of takes the place of buttermilk, which is used in Irish soda bread and serves the same purpose! Hi John. I have an even simpler recipe for beer bread. 1 packet(500g) self-raising flour, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 "dumpy" beer (340ml I think). Mix together and bake for approximately 50 minutes at 180*C. For extra flavor you can add herbs and/or grated cheese into or onto the bread. We mostly make it for a braai (South African BBQ). It is also good with soups. We also make one with buttermilk and white onion soup powder instead of adding salt. Lovely flavor for those who don't like the flavor of beer.

Nice video and presentation. I must say I have never heard of any cooks or chefs referring to baked goods as "tender"? I stopped at the mixing of ingredients in hopes that you would show an alternative method using self rising flour, eliminating the baking powder and salt. Lowering the sugar content a third would help to create a typical bread for those with diabetes or insulin sensitive systems, without sacrificing the recipe. If it tastes like a "Giant Biscuit Loaf", maybe it is? You might have other bread recipes that I have not yet discovered, so please do not takes this wrong. Biscuits and Bread vary in every culture. Thank you for all you do.
