Hello Tom and Melissa. I'm loving these blueberry recipes. I have had great success with biscuits and crumble type doughs by grating very cold butter into the dry mixture. I freeze the butter for about 30 minutes before grating it. I have a single purpose medium hand-held grater, but the larger grating side of a box grater also works. I toss the butter around with a silicone spatula to coat it with the flour mixture and blend in a bit. Works like a charm!

We are doing great. We are headed to a wedding this weekend so lots of fun ahead for us. I just read your comment to Tom, and we love that you and your dog have a nighttime snack. Tom used to enjoy what he called "breakfast club" with our daughter's dog after I had left for work each morning. Then our daughter graduated college and took her dog with her, and poor Tom really was depressed for a while. I had to remind him that she was actually HER dog. Tom had forgotten that small little fact. We had grown used to our daughter being at college and being away a lot but when she took the dog, it was seriously hard on us. Anyway, I'm rambling on here. There’s an amazing blueberry farm about 20 minutes from our house. We go there every June and pick them. I freeze them on a cookie sheet then put into freezer bags; that way I can take out as little or as much as I want. Blueberries are wonderful for diabetics they are low in sugar.

Edible berries native to North America which are commercially produced: Blueberries, Cranberries, Elderberries, Gooseberries, and Currants. Serviceberries are not commercially grown. Other common native fruits commercially produced are: Blackberries, Raspberries, and Strawberries, but these are not true berries, but are aggregate fruits. I know, I am a know-it-all. I have ADD (diagnosed when I was 53 years old) and an IQ of 140. I never had a teacher who gave me much hope. I hated school, but did my best never to be disruptive. I was just an average student. When, in 6th grade I scored very high in Iowa Test of Basic Skills (10th and 11th grade levels on every section) the teachers scolded me for not doing my best work on a daily basis. They never asked themselves why that might be. Reading had always been difficult for me. But, I stayed in school until I earned a Master's degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology. Then, I could not function well as a speech clinician. I have always loved plants, but could not imagine learning Botany. But, having gardened for 65 years now, becoming a nature hike leader, and assisting the Plant Registrar at the San Diego Zoo, I have learned about plants from all around the world, one plant at a time. I have, at the very least, learned to use the Internet for research. I have taught all grades of Sunday School from 3. Year olds to 8th grade, and fifth grade was my favorite age to teach.

Going to make this soon. My mama turned 99 today. Every morning she eats blueberries with her cereal. She says it s good for the brain. My sister's dog agrees with mama. Every night Pumpkin comes to Mama's for blueberries. In SC we have farms who sell blueberries pick your own or buy. Think 3 gallons purchased for mama won't be enough.

I very much appreciate the printed recipes. Cranberry, blackberry, boysin berry? (The last one is an outright guess). Trying to think back to my childhood - - salmon berry ... strawberry ... that makes good sense. raspberries (walking up and down the grocery aisle now - - but, still guessing.

Blueberries - one of my favorites - I pretty much eat every day, fresh, and I freeze a lot when in season for use later - & I enjoy drink blueberry juice in between. This recipe looks delicious so I will be making for sure! - - but I also wonder what a bit of grated lemon rind, and maybe a tablespoon of lemon juice, would be like added to the filling? Have you tried adding this, Tom?
