EASY - Cadillac CUE System Hard Reset Procedure

Like every other electronic device, at times the CUE infotainment system needs a reset. The good news is it's super easy! No tools or parts required.

Unbelievable how so many people, including myself, would normally just go to dealership and pay so much for a repair! So glad I watched your video; I followed the steps...and was able to change my time, my radio stations, etc. It was going crazy yesterday, flickering and distracting me while I was driving; not responsive to any touch control. Hope the reboot works long-term, but if not so glad I was able to at least get it to respond for now. Love my cue screen when it's working!

It seemed to work - for a while. But it is not anymore. I keep trying the reset, but it doesn't work like the 1st time. It jumps through the screen. When I choose the list of radio stations, they scroll through without stopping for a good 30 sec. 2016 XTS. Thanks for the video!

Sometimes they can do a software flash or update and it can fix the problem. Other times, the unit has to be replaced. Doing the hard reset is a good place to start though

On my 2014 ATS the fix is temporary; it goes back to crazy before long. This is my second Cue system in this car.

Not sure what to tell you. Could be a hardware problem or something the dealer can do with a software upgrade/reload. I never had to go beyond the reboot as described in the video to fix mine.

Question ~ the faceplate will not open to do a hard reset ~ the touch screen works fine. My other issue is there is a ‘beeping’ noise (like a microwave) only when the car is being driven- intermittently

#1 - Are you saying the faceplate motor isn't functioning? #2 - Usually one of the "Driver Aids" is trying to get your attention with those beeping sounds...I don't know which ones you have. On my car, the seat had built-in vibration to accomplish the same thing.

Yes sir the faceplate will not open by touching the chrome bar. The the whole cue system need to be replaced? The seat does vibrate along with the beeping

OK, one thing at a time. There is an electric motor as well as a sensor that controls the operation of the face plate door. You either have a stick door or a failed sensor or motor most likely. I would start chasing that problem down to see where it may lie while avoiding forcing the door open if possible. I never had to deal with that on mine so you may need to see if you can find some KZbin videos on repairing the face plate as a first step.

Currently on Amazon the replacements generally range between $40-$140. If I had to replace one today I’d probably do some research on those and go with whichever one had the best reviews.

The first thing I would do is check to see if they are all on the same fuse or relay. You should have that information in your owners manual under “fuses“

If the hard reset doesn’t work, my next step would be to take it into the dealer just for a software update/reflash to see if that clears it up.

I have a 2017 Cadillac XT5. I'm having an intermittent problem with the screen not lighting up. Radio doesn't work and phone does not connect. Usually just have to shut the car off get out and get back in and it comes back on. Sometimes takes several tries. Mine does not have the door like yours. Any recommendations on how to reset it.

It seems like with each iteration they make it a little harder to do this stuff yourself. I am not aware of a method for 2017 but go onto the Cadillac forums that are out there and see what you can find.

Do you mean to say you just replaced the screen only? Or other components as well?

Never mind I just saw you said module as well. I would examine the module should have a part number on it and see if it matches the one that is programmed for your car. Many of these modules have to be programmed to the car specifically for all of the features to operate.

As far as I know, the Cadillac dealer is the only one that is able to program those modules. But if I were you I would do a pretty thorough Google search to see if there are other options first!

I had mine get stuck a few times and I had to “help“ it to open. I was careful not to force it but instead tried one corner than the other to see if I could get it unstuck. You didn’t say if you could hear the motor running or not trying to open the face plate. It is possible that the motor has failed and that’s why it won’t open.

I personally haven't seen much on increasing range. The 2016 ELR had an upgraded version of the Voltec system used on the Chevy Volt. Since GM then went to the the second version for the next generation Volt and the ELR was killed off, I'm not aware of anyone working on the older system to increase range. If you hear of something, let me know!

No, didn’t work and I tried multiple times following exact directions and even timed on my watch. The screen is frozen with a safety warning, exactly the same problem as the first time I had it changed when 2015 SXR was under warranty. 😢

Well, this video is made for those that would be helped with a hard reset. You most likely are not going to be helped by a hard reset you could have an actual equipment problem that necessitates replacing the screen.
