Guys, I made it, it was a huge hit. I topped it with a thin layer of melted chocolate, people went crazy. And this is coming from your clumsiest once-in-a-while cook. I never knew making buttercream frosting could be this easy, you transformed my life. God bless you !

Oh, also I couldn't resist dividing up the frosting in two parts and substitute one's coffee flavour with drops of lemon juice. De-li-cious.

I made this tonight and it was delicious. I topped it with a white chocolate ganache and crushed hazelnuts coated in caramel and dark chocolate. We ate half of it and I think I know what we're having for breakfast :)

That looks sooooooo yummy. I haven't had coffee cake since I was about five years old when my mother used to do a lot of baking whilst on maternity leave. I'm going to have to go online and put a ready made one on this week's grocery order (don't have an oven - long story).

This coffee cake looks so yummy!!! I ended up making my own cakes for my wedding 2 years ago. I just prefer my own cakes. Anyways, I used candied pecans and almonds in substitution of plain salted nuts and it really turned out well! Now that I think about it... my husband and I never got a piece of that cake... It was the 1st one gone 😞
@thomasjenkins75068 жыл бұрын
probably a lot more flavorful than the typically bland wedding cake.
@cheryl84668 жыл бұрын
chicken livers I promise you, it's possible! It's not for everyone, you may have to bend a little, but this just happened to work perfectly for us. You don't have to be a professional, I'm definitely not, I just love cooking and baking. You don't have to go crazy either, use boxed cake mix where you can, & it really does save some major bucks compared to buying a crazy decorated cake! People are still talking about my wedding because where I saved, I was able to splurge a little. People looked at me like I was crazy at first! lol But! It turned out perfect! My husband and I decided to have a small wedding. So we only had 80-90 people including the 2 of us, I only had to make 3 cakes in total. We had a fall wedding. So I also chose to do what they call a "naked cake" (You can do those any time of year) Where it's just icing and cake, like what's shown in the video, stacked up as tall as you'd like (But I personally wouldn't go over 3 tiered). I stuck with the traditional white on white wedding cake that held our cake topper. A chocolate cake with white frosting, (so I only had to make 2 different frostings) fresh berries (for eating and decorating) and a homemade berry compote/jam type thing. The chocolate cake reminded me of a Black forest cake. Then I also made a pumpkin cake from scratch with a cream cheese frosting and decorated that with the candied nuts. I decided to make them all the day before, which I Wouldn't advise! That was the main mistake because, we had a pre wedding get together. Use those wooden cake sticks to hold everything together and you're good to go. I did have help. My mom baked the chocolate cakes for me, and my grandma did the white. I made the pumpkin cake, both frostings, & the berry compote the day before. Then did the assembly the night before. Fair warning! When using any kind of compote or jam, watch how much you use and shave a little off the top to let it soak into the cake, or it will slide against the frosting. Mine did, but luckily, smart placement of berries completely saved it from toppling over completely! lol The other 2 held together perfectly! lol
@cheryl84668 жыл бұрын
Thomas Jenkins For me, it was! I grew up with my grandma always making our birthday cakes. So, I'm a little spoiled. I think bakeries can do some amazing things, but it costs a Lot of money! Where I saved in the cakes, I splurged on things like having a caramel apple bar, for guest favors. People are still talking. There were a few hiccups, but nothing major. It was perfect for us.

You have to be really gentle when you are folding the mixture, if you are gentle enough, your gonna keep the air from escaping, and in the end you will have a fluffy cake.

For icing it can be good to cream the butter with an electric mixer for 5 mins until it's white and that will make the icing much lighter and fluffier! It will also help for the colour of the icing as the yellow colour from the butter can effect the end colour of the icing. 😊

Hi, Mr. Barry (or anyone who has tried my question, for that matter). Is it possible to sieve normal sugar (probably caster sugar) to use instead of icing sugar in the icing mixture?
