Years ago I made your Christmas tree hat out of the green premier puzzle yarn. I made it for my husband, installed rice lights on the inside poking out and decorated it with Christmas picks from the dollar store like gifts, stars & mini ornaments.... Whatever little doodads I could find. I also crochet a gold star for the top. Super bright and colorful. If an ugly sweater could be a hat, that was it! He wore it every year to the annual Christmas event where they volunteer time to an elementary school downtown Detroit. Most of the kids less fortunate, victims of domestic abuse, emotional issues, etc.... They absolutely loved that hat!!! It made them SO HAPPY! My husband, other co-workers would spend the whole day doing Christmas crafts with the children. They ALWAYS wanted to sit next to him " The guy with the hat". lol 💚🎄💚 Thanks❤

I made trees similar to that last year, and instead of using a cone, I stuffed it and closed off the bottom. I bought sparkle paper from Hobby Lobby. Crystal, very cute tree. If I can make a suggestion? If you still want to put lights on it maybe tuck the entire string of lights inside the tree and pull the lights through the fabric from the inside out maybe using a small hook or whatever. May give you that look you were originally hoping for. Just a suggestion 🤷🏻♀️. It's very nice either way. ❤

This is a really fun project. I am using an ancient skein of dark green yarn that was in my stash (like literally probably from the 80s, my mother got it at the senior center in a bag of yarn that was donated). I agree with others - stick with it until you get to the row of 18 stitches, it gets much easier then. I am planning to put a cardboard cone inside it so that I can just take the cardboard out and store it flat after the season.
