I enjoyed watching Sam work to put the water hydrant in, Angela working to plant the potatoes in the grow bags, and Elijah working to backfill the hydrant hole. It was a pleasure to watch his enthusiasm.

Don't ya just love that hydrant? The hubs put one out by my greenhouse a couple years ago. Another favorite for me is those cloth hoses. They aren't as durable as the regular hose but when I turn them off they empty and I can move them by myself ( I have a 6 lb load limit ) I think they call them Pocket Hose? Elijah did a wonderful job backfilling that hole. I need about a dozen of him out here to help me!

I love ground hydrants when they work. Great stuff. Our local feed store sells them. MPT male pipe thread hee hee don’t need to be a pipeologist. The basic premise is to help the pipe seat via lubrication it doesn’t actual seal the threads as I’ve read. I love that boy, great work ethic already. Good job mom and dad!!!

might need a lot more soil for that many potatoes per bag or you be watering them constandly besides that you need room under the plant for the new taters to devellop , might allo starve from lack of nutricion in the soil before its harvest time (if the leaves turn a lighter green or even yellow ou need to add fertilizer ) potatoes usually dont need a lot of nutricion but keep an eye on it

Cut some handles in those blue pots and you will like them a lot better. All you need is 4 inch wide by 1 inch tall slot about 1 1/2 inch down from the top straight across from each other. The plastic is plenty strong enough to hold. You can even put on rope handles by drilling small holes for bailing wire and stitching them on. But personally I like cutting the holes.

Hi kids, really enjoyed the lawn hydrant instal..I have a log home up in NC..Smoky Mountain region..and we installed two of these..one at the home , one down at the barn...but I quit using regular hoses for they freeze up in the winter and they are just way to heavy for this older lady.. I discovered the pocket hose O.M.Goodness.... I buy the ones with the brass fittings not with plastic..these are a God send... when attached they extend way out, when the hose fills with water...it extends greatly...and when finished with this hose..I just turn the handle to the hydrant of and drain the water from the hose...of course I use a handle sprayer..I just spray out the excess water and the hose amazingly shrinks up to nothing...so light weight and just place it in a small bucket attached to the hydrant..I just love this hose..it does not make your yard messy with hoses everywhere .you don't have to worry about it getting run over....but what I have come to realize is that after each time you are done for the day with it..just turn it off at the hydrant then release the water retained in the hose...the hose will all come rushing up to you and I just put it in the pail...also the one down at my small barn I never have to worry about my horse stepping on it...or tripping over it..at least for me it is a wonderful product...just thought I would pass this info on to you...

Just put two hydrants in a couple of weeks ago. I had to hire it out since the run is about 100 feet and we have to dig down 4 feet to be under our frost line here in Indiana. It was pricey but like you said no more moving the garden hose before I run over it and since I installed a drip system with a timer no more watering :)

Dig up the dirt by the hydrant and sink in a 4-inch square plastic tube to the gravel layer you already have then fill that with gravel. It will stop that area from becoming a muddy mess when you spill water in the future.

6:20 Hey! That's how I set up my whole house filter in line between my well pump and the pressure tank! What do you know, I accidentally did it right! The bags are really easy to make with non-woven landscape fabric. Lots cheaper, too! (I use up extra rolls of the fabric because I find that it's not really useful in the garden) Thanks as always for another great video!!
@sam-and-angela
@sam-and-angela 3 жыл бұрын
There's many that will say it's actually wrong, but it was what we decided to do with our well to fix problems we had with it. We have fine black sand in our well that caused issues with the pressure gauge on the tank when we first had it all installed. After going through two pressure gauges and two switches, we put the filters on the other side of the tank (well installers put it after the tank) and have had zero issues from it in the three years since.
@erinobrien8408
@erinobrien8408 3 жыл бұрын
@@sam-and-angela Same here. Lots of sediment, iron oxides etc . I blew through 3 pressure gauges and had to do a lot of replacement of connections. The whole house filter out there in the well house made all of the difference! Especially after the well pump died a gory death and I had to drop in a new one and switch the pipes from metal to black Poly lines.

The water spicket came out great !!! Was the soil you used for the potatoes garden soil or? Also, how much sun do they get daily and is there anything special that needs to be done? He says "why thank you." :) The soil we used was potting soil we bought by the truck load from a mulch yard last year and used for our wicking containers. So technically potting soil. :) Honestly, we're late to planting potatoes -- usually they're done earlier when it's cooler weather. They like as much sun as possible, but as it gets warmer here we'll move them to some partial sun spots to keep them from getting too hot. Hopefully it works! There are other potato varieties that tolerate heat better. We apparently got wimpy ones. Hahaha So far we really like the bags. We've moved them out of the greenhouse and it was a breeze to carry them over. They do need watered more often that if the potatoes were in the ground directly, but that's normal with all containers. :) Good luck and thanks for commenting as always!
