Hey Zack 👋 Pro Chef here, had to weigh on onions!!! Your knife should be razor sharp before cutting them, hit it with your steel and you should be all set! Three sided whetstone if dull. We have sharpening challenges in the kitchen, the guys can shave the hair on their arms, talk about an edge😂 like a barber shaving with a straight razor😂 I call mine good when the blade moves my fingerprints 🤷♀️ cuz I dont want a patch of missing arm hair😂 being a woman, I care about that😂 So.The sharp blade doesn't drag or fully rupture the "cells" of the onion you are cutting, sharp blades cut cleanly through the cells, leave less juice and it wont spray like ruptured cells. Anyways, the stuff we learn in Culinary school😂 I loooooove your channel and recipes! Great skills my friend, great communication to teach those just learning, so important! Thank you for helping them on their journey, you rock ✌
@ThebateskitchenАй бұрын
I love a sharp knife! All of mine will shave hair! (And my camp hatchet will as well 😂) the crazy thing is onions rarely give me a lot of difficulty other than the occasional strong one unless I’m filming. I don’t really understand what the difference is!

Soup is my favorite food. Broccoli cheddar, loaded potato yum. I tried the Panera creamy tomato and I ended throwing up throwing it away and I love good tomato soup. I have started making my own bread bowls. I am a bread eater especially hot, homemade, fresh from the oven. Oh my. You are definitely a foodie. Congratulations on your channel. Been here since you started it and I have tried some of your recipes. I have watched the Bates family grow up, get engaged, married and start your own families. Your momma and daddy are such amazing parents and raising their children to be such amazing people and to have such good work ethics along with the "waste not, want not mentality. I laughed when you talked about peeling a potato and yes it's easier to cut the ends off to peel it but you are wasting those end and I can't do it. Lol. I grew up eating soup beans, corn bread and fried potatoes basically Monday thru Saturday for supper and on Sunday we had a big breakfast with biscuits, gravy, bacon, homemade sugar syrup that you would put butter on your biscuits and pour the syrup over the buttered biscuit and over medium fried eggs. For supper it would be meat pork or beef and potatoes of some kind and vegetables from the garden or that momma canned. We could have other things during the week but most weeks we preferred the beans, cornbread and fried potatoes. I grew up in West Virginia.
