Kanzee that sight has a lot of useful tricks on it, thanks for showing me. Also I like the fact of using a larger, "pensile size hole," in the snare wire. this way it will tighten easily and still be strong enough to hold the animal.

very effective snare, however I ponied up for brass wire and grommets from ace hardware, you can make 50-100 snares for lesss than 1.00 ea.

I do it the exact same way. It works. Sometimes having some of the tree branches on the pole is nice to help support the snares.

I'm thinking of catching and killing grey squirrels for fur and food. What are the chances of this method being quick and clean? I don't want any caught squirrels to suffer in the trap. I know a snare wouldn't really be an instant death, but I just want it to be as humane as possible.

Squirrels here are small. Like a mouse with a bushy tail. Pretty sure they would jump right through any kind of snare. Been live trapping them but they're so numerous and destructive that it's time to kill them off. Wish we had a 22 or some kind of firepower to shoot em after they're trapped.
