I'm pretty fortunate to still be able to experience that. My friends and I catch up once a week for morning tea that lingers into lunch. We all bring in food to share. Not as common in the States but certainly not unknown. There are places that have such teas and some organizations like to hold luncheons like once a month and occasionally one will be like a "High Tea". It is very special, elegant and gracious. I've been to a couple and it was very much appreciated. We visited Scotland 22 years ago fir a month to his family and despite the fact they unbeknownst to us, they bought coffee (after all, Americans are coffee drinkers big time) we drank tea the entire time! Now from programs and movies on KZbin, the coffee industry has hit Britain pretty good, too! It's becoming a very small world. No matter where you go, you will find a bit of home.🤗

Now days people just want to text you. When we have dinner at my house or mom and dads house, we take all of the phones! The teenagers eat real fast and want their phones but we don't give them theirs until everyone is up from the table. I don't know of anything that can't wait for an hour to spend time with family. These dinners are few and far between so we try and spend as much time we can. I tell the teenagers that the world isn't going to end just because they don't have their phones! 🤗😊

Cut the tops and bottoms off bell peppers first, make a vertical slit and flatten the pepper slowly. You'll avoid seeds flying everywhere, be able to trim the white membrane off cleanly and cut the pepper into sticks for dicing. Thin-bladed serrated knives cut soft or ripened produce like tomatoes and mangoes far better than a smooth blade will.

Buy or bake regular, unsliced bread and slice it horizontally (after slicing off top, bottom, and ends. These will make great croutons.)

A caterer's trick: if you make these ahead, arrange your platter, cover in lightly damp paper towels, then cover tightly in plastic so the bread doesn't dry out. Refrigerate as long as overnight. Unwrapped, the sandwiches will be dry in about 3 hours. Wrapped without the towels, they'll still dry out in your fridge. Don't unwrap until the party is about to start. Take a bow! Also, add a touch of Dijon to the egg salad, and some capers or minced cornichon to the tuna.

The key to delicious tuna salad is the addition of lots of chopped egg. Tuna, egg, chopped dill pickles and mayonnaise. Delicious!

If you get an egg slicer it makes quick work of chopping eggs. Put the egg in the slicer one way, then turn and put it in and slice it the other way. So quick and easy!

@Robina Anstey. Try at your local bakery. Some will offer a slicing service when you buy intact loaves. They usually slice it vertically but will do it horizontally too for long rectangular slices if you specify that's how you want it. Best of luck.

Buy an uncut loaf of bread. Trim off crust, then cut the loaf into a rectangle then slice it length wise. You will need a good bread knife. Day old bread works better.
